I've set up 5 Google Alerts as per the Bootcamp Training. Today I checked them and found I was in the number 2 spot with one of them. First: that was kind of cool and I've been waiting for this day. Second: what does it tell me? I was following John's advice from one of his posts and he advised that Carson recommended a post a day on your website was better than articles elsewhere. So I thought, I'll try it. After 4 days there I am in the number 2 spot. I typed my phrase into Google and I am on page two with my website. I know, I know, check my Google Analytics as well but these two rankings seem fairly significant. Are they indicative that my site is ranking well and that posting daily on it is the best way to go? Thanks.

I feel writing content on your website is the best way to consolidate traffic. The more you have on there the better overall you will be ranked for different keywords etc. I have found that I rank for keywords I didn't even target for and under analysis I find organic traffic finds me for new phrases I didn't think about. So I have ideas for more posts to target that traffic as well.

Articles on directories are OK to use as backlinks to rank your page/post but the traffic from them is next to nothing compared to what you would get on your site. What I do is write the page/post 1000 words and then the article 400 words with the same keyword to link back.

Congrats BTW!

Hey, thanks. I need to go back and see what's being searched and target those. Will do this on the weekend.

Good job Rick. I have always liked your writing style. I don't know the answer to your question. I have 1 blogspot website that has been on 1st page of Google since last December. Weird thing is I only do 1 post a month on it. That is probably not the way to do it. But, that works for me on that one.

On some of my other sites it seems I have to do more. I do more post then pages then articles. Articles seem to get less traffic depending on the site for me. (Probably the keywords)

All of this is of course only my opinion. What works for me may not work for someone else. (My own disclaimer) lol

Thanks for your kind words, Mary. I won't send any snow to you :) Interesting how some sites seem to do differently.

One post, two articles, :) The formula I try to follow Rick. Seems to keep me on page one and two on many different keywords.
Congrats!

Thanks, Shawn. I was doing more articles than posts on my sites. Now I'm finding that when i post I also get article ideas. Being careful to stay away from duplicate content I find I am creating more natural links for myself.
