I was told that when naming my images I'm supposed to put my keyword in there with dashes in between the words. So if my keyword is "how to lose weight" I could name my image "how-to-lose-weight," and that would be the "title" in media library in wordpress.

Now I found a problem with this. big problem. the keyword shows up in google search which links to only that image. its better to show you what I mean:

when you click the first link it brings you to my actual article post. the bottom 2 links just brings you to my images without showing the article.

should I go back and delete my "title" for my images? this is messed up

that is perfectly ok.

Think of it this way... Google is trying to present the best result for your search term.

You must have chosen a keyword that has EXTREMELY low competition. Because of this, for your keyword, the only thing that Google could muster up was your article and the image.

If anything, just be sure your on page SEO is still good (keyword in title, keyword in meta, keyword in first 100 words of article) You do all of that and eventually Google will rank your blog post higher than the image because it delivers more value than the single image.

Hope that makes sense, let me know if you have any more questions.
