What is Affiliate Marketing Online?
When, I first started building my online business 12 months ago I had no idea what the word affiliate meant. Fortunately, I found this great learning platform and community and you have all helped to broaden my understanding.
I come from the dinosaur era where you went down to the corner store to buy your groceries and everyone knew you. The time of personal service, and although I'm not complaining now that anyone can build a business online, I do sometimes miss those days.
It was simpler to understand that the corner store bought their products wholesale from the
company wholesaler and sold them to us with a markup. The salesman selling life insurance was paid a commission on the policies that he sold. The vacuum shop bought wholesale and sold retail. It was pretty easy to understand. This still goes on today but now we have a new word for commission, Affiliate Program.
How do you do affiliate marketing online?
- Choose a niche for a website
- Find products that you like
- Write about those products
- Include links so that a commission is paid to you when people buy
- Promote your blog
Of course, this is a slightly over simplified view of affiliate marketing as there are a lot of elements to getting people to read your blog and decide to buy through you. But it still comes down to good informative posts that help people make a decision. The more helpful you are the more successful you will be.
Why a tree?
Affiliate marketing is like the branches of a tree. There is no limit to how many products you can promote, you just need to keep a good balance in your business so you don't topple.
By placing yourself in the shoes of your reader you can provide the support that we all go online to find, information and assistance.

That is the gist of it. Sounds quite straight forward, but oh! So much to do, especially when life gets in the way.
I also miss those days of a calming, traditional life of a personal service, where we all knew each other, it was easier to meet someone then!
But life goes on and online buisness may be the best thing you ever did financially, all the best.

Multiple branches to promote multiple products.

It seems such a simple thing, yet it can be so complex.
The key that unlocks many doors is reading your readers.
Creating that value and sharing, definitely creates mutual benefit.
