Landing page or Pop-up?

So, further to my question on whether to use a plugin or an auto responder for collecting emails. I have decided to use a Free auto responder called Sendinblue. Why this one?

It is Free up until 100,000 subscribers and I can send 300 emails a day. As I don't plan to

deluge my subscribers, this program will work very well for me. I also liked Mailer Lite with its Free to 1000 subscribers.

Now that I'm doing the training to set it up I'm looking at Landing pages and Pop-ups and would love to hear from our experienced WAer's on what has worked well for them?

Can you use both and should you? They seem to do different things. Landing pages are great if you are promoting an offer in social media and pop-ups on your website will collect emails from anyone turning up?

As always I really appreciate all the feedback that I receive from the community. It's a slow process working through all the options and information.

Wishing you all great success.

See you at the top

Actually, I think Sendinblue is quite generous with their free subscribers. This is food for thought for me and will definitely check it out. Thanks for sharing.

I hate popups. I always click away from the website almost immediately. But if it is offering something that can really help, it's ok. Landing pages are great.

My feelings too Carol, but I guess it does capture more subscriptions.

Lily, I don't have an autoresponder yet but thanks for the tip on sendinblue. I think I'll try that out. I did sign up for a free trial of constant contact but never used it because I wasn't quite ready for autoresponder-ville. I had forgotten about that and just got an email yesterday stating that they weren't able to take payment because I have an outdated CC. Since I'm still not ready, I think I'll cancel that and then look at the free options for when I am ready. It's not going to be much longer, hopefully.

It is a bit of a circus at first Sandi. I created my 2 giveaways (lead magnet) in Word documents and up loaded them to my gmail drive before starting this search. Although I wrote 3 emails in word before beginning it's easier to create them fresh in the auto responder as you build your program flow.
It's a whole new world.

No pop-ups for me. Half of the time it slows down the loading of their website and I say 90% of the times I just move on to another website. I find those pop-ups very annoying. I don't use them on my website either.
And it seems many people feel that way ,as chrome even shows you how to block those pop-ups when surfing on the net.

I'm with you, lucbizz. I find popups to be almost as annoying as not being able to find out where to subscribe to a website. I would much rather have site admins have, on every page on the site, "enter your email here to sign up for our email list" or something like that. Especially since a lot of the sites I go to I am already getting an email from them so it's really annoying to click on the link in an email I received only to get a popup as soon as I get to the site encouraging me to sign up for an email I'm already getting.

Yeah those are the worst kind, made me unsubscribe from them, no matter what value they offered.

Excellent point Sandi. I wonder if you can just include a pop up selectively. I really like the idea of the subscribe at the bottom of each post. That makes good sense.

I know that you can program a site to have a pop-up when the end-users mouse gets close to the X to close the page so it wouldn't be that difficult to program the page to send a pop-up when you are on the page for a certain length of time or something like that. It's something to think about.

I've gone with Aweber and added a subscription link at the end of each post but can't seem to get the pop up working yet.
Sendinblue don't let you create a landing page until you start paying I have found. Good to know.

Great question Lily.

I prefer seeing landing pages, and pop-ups do tend to annoy me especially, as has been said before, they pop up far too early!

Though apparently they can be helpful for conversions, so I could accept perhaps seeing a pop-up if I'm about to leave a site....

Something to ponder - perhaps some split testing...?

Just getting my head around split testing. There doesn't seem to be any explanation on the autoresponder. I'm still working out where to put the code to claim my website.

I'm not quite there yet, LIly. But I am certainly going to use a pop up as it's been proven over and over again to increase traffic, and I would also use a landing page for special content I wanted to push like a gift or a special of some kind, a one-time offer so to speak.

That is a great use Joss and promoting the offer in social media and sending them to your landing page seems to be standard practice, everyone likes a freeby.
