Are You Using Site Comments to Your Advantage?

It doesn't seem too hard to start asking for comments on the posts on your website but if you are a newbie or someone still learning the ropes here are a few tips. It will help you to make the most of Site Comments and give and receive great comments that you can use.

In the past, a few people have said that they stopped using Site Comments because people leaving comments were not playing by the rules. I understand why they said this, as I've had a few problems too but there is a way around these problems.

  • Cut and paste comments not relevant to your post
  • Details on what you need to fix in your post or website
  • Comments on your website not the post (Newbie mistake)

Cut and Paste Comments

I've only started getting these since I did 10 comments in a row to get in the Priority Listing, it really shocked me that someone would deliberately leave an obvious cut-and-paste from another post in my comments section. In fact, two comments had the exact same cut-and-paste which weren't even relevant to my post, obvious and insulting!

It not only highlighted that they hadn't read my post but that they only wanted the credit or money for visiting. This is a very selfish attitude, especially within our community where we do get to know each other. (You wouldn't want someone doing it to you, so why show your disrespect to others.)

The simple solution to stop this is to reject the comment as it will send a clear message to the careless person (the 3 strikes rule does apply and they don't want to be blocked from using Site Comments to make money.) When I was new and the discussion was raging about this problem I thought this was a harsh punishment but it is a clear reminder. I had one comment rejected in the first days because it was for a post not a website and I didn't know the difference. It certainly made me be more careful and aware when commenting and I've never had another one rejected.

You could keep the comment and edit it before approving or edit it after approving it on your website under comments. If it is a cut-and-paste you would delete the whole paragraph and write whatever you like. Not only do I feel bad about doing this but it's time-consuming, but it is your call. You get to write whatever you like under their email address. Personally, I would prefer it if the person took a little time to read my post and write a value paragraph!

Read the post, write a thoughtful paragraph within what they asked for and spellcheck please before submitting, easy and respectful!

Details on what you need to fix in the comment

The first time this happened to me I was really pissed off, as I felt they were wasting my time and credits. But now I realise how thoughtful this person was in highlighting something I needed to polish. I want to know if I've misspelt something important or missed an editing problem that will drive people from my post.

Now that I know that I can cut this comment out of the text I first go to my post and make the corrections, then I delete it. Usually the thoughtful person has already made a good comment that I can keep and then put the corrections into a separate paragraph that is easily deleted. Bless them for caring and being a fresh pair of eyes.

This way you get more bang for your buck (credits). You get a new comment to help your SEO rating and you get their help in polishing your post. A great win/win!

Thanks to all those regular commentators who do this, it is appreciated.

Comments on your website not the post

Trust me, this is an easy mistake to make the first few weeks after you join Wealthy Affiliate. So many new things to learn and those two categories are listed close to each other in Site Manager.

Take a moment to consider the difference between Site Comments and Site Feedback.

Site Comments - are your comments on a post on someones' website. They will show under their post in the comments section.

Site Feedback - is designed for you to highlight any problems with a persons' whole website and only they will get to read the comments.

Totally different tool and for different reasons. If you receive a website review in a comments section it is probably a confused newbie, be kind. Use the information to think about your overall website then delete it and write a comment that you would like for your post. We were all new once, they will learn.

We are all in this together and learning to build a business is time-consuming and tough but that is why this community is so valuable in supporting you for the years to come. Treat others with the same respect that you would like them to treat you and that will make this business tool of tremendous value to everyone.

I raise my glass to your success.

Work hard, play nice!

HI 2 you Lily,

Can't believe I've made the mistake of posting some constructive feedback in a comments section earlier today, and I've been with WA for over a year now so not a noob.

I've contatced and apologised to the site owners and requested one of them to take it off. Already dissaproved by the other. The only saving grace for me is that the constructive, detailed feedback I offered was post specific and not site feedback but I still would rather that be off their comments.

Nice to read your post and get clarity.

Steve

Hey Lilly,

I was scanning my feed and saw your thumbnail with that wonderful smile...

I just had to say "Hello"!

I agree with everything you mentioned in this post...

I usually just edit the god awful thing and be done with it...

Site comments on our posts as well as your reply actually can help your posts ranking on the search engines, so this is no small matter.

Great Job!

Howard

Hey Howard,

Thanks. It's definitely something we have to constantly work with. The typos and spelling mistakes can wear you down sometimes but it is all part of this journey.

Take care and be well.

Yup, I made the mistake of commenting on the site and not the post when I first started using comments. I saw the error of my ways and corrected myself. As you said, when we were newbies, all of the info kinda jumbled around. Work hard, play nice. Very well said.

Greg

I stole that line but it is so true.

Yes you are so right Lily we were all new not to long ago I am still learning I didn't know the difference between Site Comments and Site Feedback so thank you for clarifying that. We have to learn so much especially when you don't know anything about building websites or blogs or whatever. I only learned the difference on blogging to the community and blogging on my site. So koodos to you for this blog. I hope those who have been impatient thus far with newbies read your blog and take note. Be kind, be.pstient and you'll receive it back. Take care Lily, your appreciated. Deborah

Thanks so much Deborah. I'm glad I'm part of this community and we can always find a better way.

Take care
Wishing you great success

I love giving and requesting Site Comments. I have accumulated over 100 credits and plan on making sure I always have enough to "pay" for my Site Comments requests.

It is reassuring to have our posts filled with comments from WA members even though they are not earned organically,

Great post Lily.

Edwin

I agree Edwin I find it a great source of comments.
