Are You Stressing With Slow Site Speeds?

I know there has been a lot of discussion on website speeds on here lately, starting with Kyles' great post on GeneratePress. After reading and following a few suggestions I decided to experiment with my slow mobile speeds on one of my websites. Big mistake! Huge!

Although, I did it with a lot of reading and study I was a little nervous about the whole CSS and Jave Script talk and I really should have listened to that little voice inside yelling to, leave it alone until I had been around longer.

But alas I didn't. I tried Smush and it did help a little and then I tried another Optimizer which told me I had to decide what to load and what not to load. I should have backed away at that point.

My Hero

I contacted site support and they couldn't help me. So after 3 days of stressing I yelled for the

cavalry, my awesome mentor and coach Jack Cao who I signed up with just under 12 months ago. Jack has always been there to encourage and support me and I never contact him unless I'm completely stumped.

Needless to say, he fixed my website in about 30 minutes by taking plugins off that I had added to share my posts (less speed) and he added a paid plugin called WP Rocket. I turned off my website speed in Site Manager.

Give me speed!

He wasn't kidding. This plugin shot all my speeds into the 90s from the lowest of 48. Total site speed from 40 to 86. Green everywhere and finally a fast mobile loading speed to die for. We skyped from Singapore to Australia for about 3 hours with him cleaning up my websites and polishing a few details for me. Truly awesome support, which I never would have had if I'd never found Wealthy Affiliate. Some problems need a bigger picture viewpoint.

Thanks, Jack! You're my hero!

Now, I can get back to lessons and writing more content knowing my website speed isn't

holding me up. Also, I've learned that you must choose between speed and some other plugins, it's always a trade off. A lesson well learnt.

Just thought I should share this break through with everyone here who may be struggling with site speed and thinking that they need to understand code to fix it. There are other solutions, cashing plugins, it's about finding the one that works for you.

Good Morning Lily,

That is great, your mentor came with such a good solution.
I have been battling with speed for both my sites, which I started in Januray 2017. I could nearly say it causes me sleepless nights.
A few days ago I started a new site and this bsby has already speed problems for mibile.
SiteSupport said I might consider changing theme. No way I change my brand new theme, completely different from the one for my 2 old sites.
We tested on mobile and all sites seem to perform ok. I think I will forget this issue and concentrate on something else.

Stay safe and healthy,

Taetske

Hope it sorts out one day Taetske.

Hugs
Lily 😊🎶

I have a lot of patience.I will start from the beginning taking out too heavy photos and replace them for lighter ones, a huge job.

All the best, Taetske

Thanks for sharing your tale of woe as well as some good advice.

When I see low site speeds I always click my URL on my PC and also my Phone. If it loads fast enough for my satisfaction I have learned to stop worrying.

My newest post had slower than usual site speed in WA. I asked Site Support for help. They told me my images needed optimizing. When I did that my site speed got worse.

They told me to wait a day and it should show an improvement.

When I did my own real life test, they loaded just fine. So I am not going to worry about it and get on with more productive pursuits.

Cheers.

Edwin

Great advice Edwin. Sometimes you just have to quit worrying.
Lily

Great point Edwin!

Hi Lily oh no that sounds stressful indeed. I have been stressing too after Kyle his post and finding out my site speed was just terrible in the red numbers.
I also installed lazy load but I didn't like it as my images loaded TO slow with this plugin. Eventually, I found out my site speed was on accelerate instead of extreme. After I changed this I have seen massive improvements and everything in green numbers now, happy days.
I am happy you got your issues sorted Lily, technical issues are definitely not my favourite either.
Have a great day.
Jude

I feel your pain Jude. I did try pushing my cashing up to Extreme and although it did improve I still had a lot of Orange, that's when I started trying other methods and got myself in a mess.
Thank goodness for Jack.

Always learning something new.
Delighted you are all good now.

Lily

Thanks for sharing.

Wish you the fastest possible speed for your website and much success with it!

Boris

You're very kind Boris.

I wish you the same.
Lily

Jack saves the day!
