If and when you buy a domain name(s), is it 'good for' the entire internet, eg. Google-wide? Meaning: nobody else will have this name? Would you recommend buying two very sim
Phil, appreciated, helps a lot. Didn't want to assume anything. Just considering name to be accurate and yet memorable.
Thanks for responding with some good info. ~Clara
Yes, there can only be one instance of a domain name.
Though of course, you can have the same name but with different TLDs, like name.com, name.org, name.net and so on.
My advice would be to get one good .com name that matches your niche.
It's not so much the name that brings traffic, but your content and its keywords.
Just something else....is it possible to 'erase' a website, de-enlist it? Or do you have to 'sell' it? Thanks again Phil.

There's no problem with deleting a website. It's just a collection of files on a server.
Every domain name has a set of Domain Name Servers (DNS) associated with it. They tell the internet where that domain's website can be found.
So even without deleting the actual website, you can make it disappear by changing the domain's DNS.
Now, on that basis, then, can it be assumed that Wealthy Affiliate is the DNS for a member's chosen domain name? But it would still be accessible across the internet. I'm understanding by what you've said that you would not have to register it twice, but you could carry it to another DNS, wherever that might be, were that ever needed. I'm assuming that GoDaddy is another example of a server, but as long as you'd stay a member here, WA would ensure your site remained housed somewhere reliably. We're probably getting into the weeds here.
Such basic information about internet mechanics that I never had cause to know, nor to ask, 'til now. Thanks Phil, you're most helpful in sharing your knowledge. Thank you sincerely.

It sounds like you've got it, Clara.
WA has a DNS set associated with its servers, so yes everyone with a website hosted at WA is using that DNS in their domain's properties. It doesn't matter who their domain registrar is.
So your domain name could be hosted with GoDaddy (not recommended), Moniker, Namecheap or any one of hundreds of domain name registrars but it's DNS would be pointed at WA if that's where the website is hosted.
Most domain name registrars also offer hosting but my personal preference is to keep them separate.
