Want proof that keyword research works?

This is a follow-up to my 1 month progress report

Caveat: I'm a little analytic obsessed and I don't recommend checking your stats every friggin' day like I do. So there.

We talk about keyword research here a lot and I wanted to share some proof that it works.

If you read my progress report, you saw a clear upward trend in my site visits. I've also been keeping track of how often my site appears in search queries, using Google Webmaster Tools.

Even if you're not getting visits on your site, you should be appearing more frequently in searches if you are doing keyword research and putting it use in your content.

Here's how my site is doing, keeping in mind that the domain was brand new & the site began at the end of June:

It may not look like it, but starting 7/7 I blogged nearly daily for the first month. I used whatever keywords I thought made sense, or not at all.

As you can tell, I barely appeared in search results, despite blogging consistently. I'm not even sure that would be called treading water!

The game changer was learning about and using Jaaxy.

The trend is VERY clear that my blogging is now effective. A few minutes of Jaaxy research before writing each blog post has made a HUGE difference.

Now the clicks may not be rising but it's only a matter of time - and I'm shooting for long-term success. The more I get found in searches, the more likely that I'll get clicks.

Again, I credit the training here for it - and Jaaxy, which I believe that everyone should be using!

That's how you do it! :)) Nice work...blog on! Kim

Thanks!

Awesome! I wonder if the same happens if we use the Keyword Tool here in WA.

It might, because it (should be) based on Jaaxy. But I haven't used it much.

That is beautiful progression. Thanks for sharing this. I'll sure to pass this one on.

Super helpful. Short and sweet!

Cool!

Great post and very informative. Thank You Arp for the share.
Always learning from you my friend.

Thanks again

You're welcome!

That is very interesting. Nice trend.

Thanks, I'm just going to keep at it and then see what happens :)

Nice job, thanks for sharing, help us to understand the use of Jaaxy, very clear the difference.

You're welcome!

Nice job Arpl.

Thanks for the valuable input!

You're welcome - put Jaaxy to use for you!

I think... "yes"

I agree, Arp. I love my Jaaxy! I've also seen a slight upswing since using the LSI keywords sprinkled through the body.

LSI?

Latent Semantic Indexing. The way it was explained to me, Arp, is that when you choose your main keyword and Google finds it, Google expects you to mention a few other things. Here's a page where you can plug your keyword(s) in. It then suggests single, double and triple LSI additions. I was told to not stuff, but put in a few. http://lsikeywords.com/

I like that graph! Do you have any particular insights into the way you use Jaaxy to fine tune your final picks? What are you aiming at target wise as far as QSR, and traffic numbers? Which number do you prioritize, the QSR? How low will you go on a traffic number even if the QSR is great? Thanks for your insight!

I paid attention to Kyle's recommendations of a QSR under 300 and estimated traffic over 50. I'm also testing some of the higher traffic, under 400 QSRs with lower SEO Power (70s vs 85+).

I'm also using the WordPress SEO by Yoast plugin and checking off the various SEO recomendations on each post - keywords in the title, in the meta description, etc. My keyword density tends to be a bit low though, so I'd like to improve that and see if it helps.

I was curious how low to go on the traffic and on the SEO power. That helps. Thanks!

One more question. What is being conveyed by the SEO power measurement? What does that metric tell us exactly?

It's a score, of sorts, combining the traffic and QSR. It basically corresponds to the green/yellow/orange colors (I think green is 85+).

Thanks

Thank you for this, it helps for us on those days we think we are not doing well enough.

Exactly - because we're not going to see results all the time. I get bummed too, so I also need these reminders :)
