How secure is your email, pictures or other data in the cloud?

After reading about the major celebrity photo theft, I was reminded of my own experience with losing my iPhone in February and wrote a post about the steps we can take to secure our cloud data better.

Here are my 5 recommendations:

1. Use seriously secure passwords

2. Use different passwords for everything

3. Use a password manager

4. Use two-step verification

5. Use application specific passwords for everything

For details, please read the rest of the post at http://workathomerebel.com/jennifer-lawrence-pics-cloud-data-security/

I know it's a bit off-topic for WA but it's important for all of us!

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Arp, top man.

Gary.

Good reminders ArpL…
My husband found it a bit 'interesting' how predictable some of my own passwords were when we got married:)
Have worked on being more creative since:)

LOL, we've been through that too.

Hi Arp,
Can you recommend a good password manager,(preferably free of course)
Gary.

I use LastPass and they have a free account. You need the premium account to use the mobile app, which imho is a godsend. Their app has a built in browser that logs you into sites if you want.

LastPass premium costs all of $12 a year, well worth it!

I like your security recommendations, but I think what the heck would a hacker want from me, have no secrets and no money :) Loes

LOL, I would like to think the same but I've got pictures of my children to keep safe. All of our digital photos are backed up online (not on iCloud tho).

Thanks for the great advice!

You're welcome!

All good stuff. Left you a comment on the post. Is Last Pass secure? I need something like that, but I wonder how secure anything is these days.

Everything is encrypted locally, so there's no server to hack into. Most hackers will not take the time to hack into an individual's account unless they are rich/famous and have sensitive data that can be sold to the scum of the world.

Changing your master password with LastPass was a multi-step procedure, and resulted in the re-encryption of all my local data.

Here's their info on why they are secure: https://helpdesk.lastpass.com/getting-started/introduction/why-is-lastpass-safe/
