Is it a good practice to delete old posts (more than 1-year old one) that are not ranking in Google but are on page 1 of Bing and Yahoo?
If not then is it okay to keep them

I agree with Slavka6 has advised, keep your old posts and update with new data. If your post is not ranking in google then it probably needs more useful info in the post.

Google search console and Google analytics , you can type search Google console for indexing. You can also use Search Console to check whether a specific page is indexed. To do that, paste the URL into the URL Inspection tool.
If I paste the URL of my post and GSC doesn't show any result this means that post is not indexed at all right?

My understanding is that Google does not continually instantly update its index of the URL of your post right away. From what I read, I learned that Google might take 1 day, a few weeks, or months to index your articles. If you just newly posted and it's not showing up, then you are right. It's not indexed, and it takes some time before it gets indexed by Google. If you look at DianeScorpio's post talks about impressions and how to use keywords to rank.
You want to look at URL inspection, so you are looking to inspect if your article has been indexed if not, you can send a request to GSC to submit indexing. That's based on my experience.

You may input your keyword and domain name.
First your posts get indexed and often days later down the line start getting noticed provided targeted keywords are searchable, new websites can rank efficiently.
But typically "authority" for a website starts to get established through time, usually the 3-6 month mark.
They fluctuate up and down the scale till Google decides where to place them.
Not all posts will get ranked, thus the recommendation to keep updating blog 2 - 3 posts a week and that's for the foreseeable future.

If you have more than 250 posts that need to be updated with a more in-depth keyword research process to improve search engine rankings what would you do?

Newbie here. From what I learned recently. Updating your site would be best! I would elaborate or add on to your posts and grow from them. I would also link a new post to an old post. You don't want to start the searches from scratch. Plus Im sure your older posts offer value and you want to keep that on your site.
Updating is the best way to go. First of all the site you have has domain age which will help with the updated posts being ranked.
I just recently did a website update audit, and I removed 165 posts and then updated the remaining 220.
And I just did that as part of my content strategy, I kept creating new content, and then I updated the old content at the same time
Also, the BIG myth is that Google uses content frequency as a ranking factor.
While the frequency may increase how often Google checks your website, it is not the same as freshness and is not a ranking factor.
John Mueller, Search Advocate at Google, When asked whether Google’s algorithms take posting frequency into account, he responded that they do not.

May I ask the reason that prompted you to remove 165 posts?
None of them after years ever saw any real ranking and no impressions - and with that many useless posts it definitely was hurting my sites overall ranking
If the posts have been published it has a URL and has been indexed by the search engines. And the problem with archiving them. Which would be changing the post back to a draft.
It now creates a 404 error. Now the 404 itself doesn't hurt your SEO. But it does cause a bad experience for people. And that does.
Personally, if I was going to save stuff I was deleting for whatever reason I would go old school and copy and paste them into word.
Then delete the posts, and either redirect the old URL to a post or page that better helps my visitors, this way you avoid a 404 error.
You can also use plugins that will do that for you if you don't have cPanel access allowing you to do it at the server level.

Helps A LOT! I didn't realize the 404 would happen if you archive them. Mine archive or re-categorize after a few weeks. I think my them does that automatically I hate the 404 experience. It makes me question the site.Glad to know it could happen when you do this. I am not fully verse in WP - so Im still learning Thanks for the clarity.
Anytime you move or delete a post or page it will cause a 404. As long as you create a redirect you're fine.
Here's another tip avoid redirecting to your home page. Google does not like that as in most cases it's not helpful to your visitors

Like everyone is saying here, Google makes the final decision. What can you learn from what Google chose? Do you think the meta description represents your content. Generally Google choses something that will give your post the best possible ranking.
if google finds something more relevant to the search query it will use that...
so that means your meta description is a little wide of hte mark for the search query and is worth adjusting towards what you you used in your email marketing template....
then it may use what you write...
you don't dictate to google....
