How to Write 500 words Posts

This is a bit of a late post. Not a wealthy affiliate related post, just a travel report.

My company assigned me to Palembang for a couple of days.

This is a hometown for my father. He was born there. While he was still alive, I haven't got the chance to visit this city with him. I still have relatives there.

So the first few days, I have to do work related things. Just on the final day, I got the chance to look around the city and tasted the famous Pempek Palembang.

My cousin took me to the best place to eat: Bakmi Aloi, Pempek, Pindang Patin, and Kemplang.

First, the Pindang Patin. The restaurant name is Sarinande. You should definitely visit this restaurant. The Pindang Patin is a fish dish. The fish is cooked with local herb and spice. The spiciness level is just right. It hast a hint of hotness. Not overwhelming like other Indonesian dishes.

You should eat the fish with Nasi Lemak. This is a totally mouthwatering rice. The rice is cooked (again) with local herb. The taste will explode in your mouth. It did in my mouth. You can taste and smell the herb while you eat the rice. I suspect the coconut milk is involved in the making.

You should eat Rendang and fried Belida fish. The Rendang meat is so tender. (BTW, Rendang is named world #1 tastiest food). The surprise is the Belida fish. It is the icon fish for Palembang. Belida meat is so fatty. I have never eaten a fish with that much fat. It makes the meat so juicy (even though it is deep fried).

So, I would definitely recommend Sarinande to you!

Second, Bakmi Aloi. Sarinande and Bakmi Aloi are two of the most famous eatery house in Palembang. You never visit Palembang if you have never eat in these two places.

For noodle lovers, Bakmi Aloi serves an amazing pork noodle. The noodle has the right elasticity(?) or springiness (?). Man... I can't find the right word in English for it. If you eat the noodle, you just know it.

Actually, Bakmi Aloi has a lot of branches in Jakarta. I have tasted here in my hometown. But you just couldn't beat the original place, could you?

Third and final: PEMPEK and KEMPLANG.

Pempek is a fish cake and Kemplang is a fish cracker.

You can see that Pempek has a lot of variants. You just have to taste them all.

Pempek Kapal Selam (Submarine Pempek) is the one on the bottom right. It has egg yolk in the center of it.

Pempek Tahu (Tofu Pempek) is in the bottom middle.

Pempek Keriting (Curly Pempek) is right in the middle.

Pempek Adaan/Bulat (Round Pempek) is the bottom left. Just like a meatball.

Pempek Lenjer is top right and Pempek Papaya is top left.

You eat it with Cuka. Literal translation is Vinegar. But they mix the vinegar with soy sauce, chilli, and other ingredients.

You just can't have enough of Pempek. Trust me.

Hohohohoho... I don't want to leave this fish cracker paradise. So many types with different taste. You just have to try them all!

The picture above is for the fried fish crackers. I prefer the baked ones. So I bought the baked Kemplang for my own guilty free indulgence.

Finally: THE SECRET

If you managed to reach this far, you know that I have written 500+ words.

The only thing you should do is to WRITE like you are TALKING to a friend. It will bring out your authenticity and your own writing style.

I remember when I first joined WA and had to write my first website post. It was 300 words. It took me TWO days to write it and I thought I already said everything.

Looking back, I remember that I withhold information in my head, thinking the person that will read my post already know that information. I know better now. I have to write the information, too.

It will help the readers to understand more and it will make the post LONGER. That being said, I actually want to write more about Palembang, but it will make this post not about writing tips.

Remember: Write like you are talking. Disregard grammar at first. Just write.

What do you think about my only tip there? Do you find it helpful?

Like the post, please. :D

- Arief

ps: the total word count is already 700+ here.

Additional ps: do you notice any grammatical errors?

Fun fact: I am not a native English speaker. It is a struggle to think and write in English.

Yum! Your post is mouthwatering. I really enjoyed all your food descriptions. I did not know Rendang was #1 tastiest food in the world. Must try! Nice work.

Oh dear Cindy, where have you been? Rendang should be on your next to eat list. Make it a priority!
Even there is a song about it. It was made by a Norwegian that was facinated by it.

Check the song: https://youtu.be/_Rbvbb37z_c

Really? I am so missing out!

: )

Yes, you are!

Ariel, I looooved your approach to your blog. The title caught my eye, and then the mouth watering content did the same. Reallly effective, thank you!
Giulia

Thank you so much, Giulia.

I see that my post title seems like a deceiving one, but if people made it to the bottom, they will get my point!

The numbers just flow with a post this good!

Thank you, kind Sir!
I just want to "talk" about it.

Arief, you made me craving for pempek kapal selam, it's been a while since I ate pempek.
On the other side, I agree with your advise, write like you talk. With this mindset, it is easier to write a 500-word long post =). Great tips!

Go for it! Pempek is so delicious!

And yes.. it is easier to write when you are "talking".

I saw the title about writing posts with 500+ words and then you started talking about the foods you know about: PEMPEK and KEMPLANG - but I got to the END of the post and said "OH NOW I see why he entitled this post about writing 500+ word posts...." Great post! Thanks for sharing!!

Yup. I Just want to see how far people are willing to learn and find the gem. LOL. :D

Nice job Thanks for sharing

Glad you enjoyed the story!

Thanks Arief. Making my posts long enough is
something I struggle with.

I hope your struggle stop now. Just "talk" it out. :D

Nice work, and info thanks, buddy

Thank you, Mike!

At first, I thought what does this have to do with writing 500 words but I kept reading because the food looked good when I got to the end.... OK, I get it :):):)

I love it, very smart way to put it like this.
Thank you, point taking.

Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for dropping by!
