This is the first time I got a chat message on Google Plus. It is a wonder since I only use G+ for sharing purposes. Nothing else. I mainly active on Facebook.

So my scam alarm immediately turned its big siren on! RED ALERT! RED ALERT!

This guy is so intended to scam me. He even uses a real person photo and his identity. All with a G+ account.

He claims to be Cedric Lizin. Here is his message:

My Friend

I am Cedric Lizin,Managing Director of Barclays Bank in United Arab Emirates .I write you this proposal in good faith hoping that I will rely on you in a business transaction that require absolute confidentiality and of great interest and benefit to our both families.

In 2007,one Mr. Weimin , an Emirati Citizen whose surname is same as yours and has your country in his file as his place of origin, made a fixed deposit for 36 months, valued at $26,700,000.00 with my bank. I was his account officer before I rose to the position of Managing Director. The maturity date for this deposit contract was 27th of September 2010.Sadly Mr. Weimin was among the death victims in the September 2009 earthquake in Indonesia that left over 1,200 people dead while he was there on business trip.

Since the last quarter of 2010 until today, the management of my bank has been finding means to reach him so as ascertain if he will roll over the Deposit or have the contract sum withdrawn. When I discovered that this will happen,

If you concur with this proposal, I intend for you to retain 50% of the funds while 50% shall be for me. Kindly forward your response to me.
Mr. Cedric Lizin
Managing Director (Head of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management)
Email:xxxxxxx (erased for safety reason)

Cool huh?

Years ago I always received this kind of emails. Now they dare to approach you while you are online.

The distance people go just to scam you. AMAZING!

I learned from this event.

- Be brave

- Outreach people

- Who knows which people be interested

- Present the best of you

I will not scam people but I applaud his tenacity to even engaging me in a conversation that I kindly provide.

So be careful out there and BE BRAVE!

I like that you gave him due respect, then on your way. Well done.

LOL.
The conversation is just like this:
Me: I will not fall for your scam.
He: Did you not understand my message?
Me: Yes, I do. You are trying to scam me.
He: Not scam.

and then silence....

It sure smells like a scam all the way. Good job for following your protective instinct.

My alarm is always set at the highest sensitivity.

It is terrible what happens with these scum bags trying to rip off hard working people! Thanks for the alert, and keep the faith with WA!

They are trying very hard. And so should we.

You make a very good point...to quote a famous person, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." Be diligent, careful but move ahead and do not give in.
I've been getting similar letters from scammers in various countries for years, but they seem to be getting more sophisticated. So be wary but don't let a scammer get in the way of your success.

They are getting more sophisticated and Bolder, too.

Not nice at all. Sadly, scammers are in abundance!

They are everywhere. We need to be on guard all the time.

Its pitiful what lengths some people go to to cheat others out of their hard work. Thanks for the alert.

Yup. I had mixed feelings toward this guy!

It's the standard Nigerian letter from a different country. The scary part of this is that he has 156 followers on G+

Followers can be bought on crowd sourcing sites like microworkers.com, youlikehits.com, or any other micro job site. What scares me is that he is willing to invest money into the scam. That makes me think that it works. At least well enough to invest money into it.

@Marion. I noticed it. That's why I screen captured the profile.

@Ritchie. Bought or not, 156 people is too much and can be seen as a legit profile.

Thank you for sharing and for the heads up!
Sheila

You are welcome!

Scammers are ALWAYS out there -- EVERYWHERE.

Yup. Just be careful.

It's pretty pitiful that he would even go to those lengths. That earthquake in Indonesia isn't anything to speak on lightly. No integrity.

Yup. That's what hurt me the most. It was a devastating tragedy but he used it for his own benefits.
