Converting Pages to Posts and vice versa using pTypeConverter

I had created lots of Posts and later on realized that these Posts would be better off being Pages. If you find yourself in this kind of situation then the solution is very easy !!!

You might feel that it is very simple, just cut and paste the content again. You can do this but there are other things you need to think about before cutting and pasting !!!

If you try to delete the post using a base category plugin and then create a new page, you may have noticed you can’t use the original permalink that WordPress automatically or originally generated for the post. WordPress will append a number to the end of the permalink URL of your new page and you can’t get the original permalink back. Also all the comments that you received for that particular Post or Page will also get deleted.

For example if your post title was “example” and you saved it. If you try to create a new page with “example”, WordPress will create the permalink as “example-2”.

A work around for both issues is to convert that post into page using the pType Converter plugin. Let me take you step by step as to how you can first install and then use pTypeConverter :

Step 1 : From your WordPress dashboard click on "Plugin".

Step 2 : Click on "Add new"

Step 3 : Type "pTypeCoverter" in the blank box.

Step 4 : Click on "Install" when pTypeConverter appears on the screen.

Now that pTypeConverter is installed as one of your Plugins, you can go to Plugins, select pTypeConverter and activate it. Once you have activated pTypeConverter you can follow the Steps mentioned below :

Step 1 : From your WordPress dashboard click on "Tools"

Step 2 : Click on "pTypeConverter"

Step 3 : Click on "Convert" option on the top of the screen and then tick mark which Pages or Posts you want to Convert

Step 4 : Select your option; either Pages, Posts or Attachments and then click on "Convert"

This will convert all your selected Posts to Pages and vice versa along with the same Permalink and all the comments you received will also be transferred.

Just to be on the Safe-side, do not forget to Backup before you start to Convert. It is always advisable to backup your site before you make major changes or backup your site occasionally !!!
