Well it's Time to go to the Hospital that is.

Heart Attack 28th December 2008

A few months ago, I mentioned that my heart is not as good as expected when I had a major heart attack back in 2008.

I got taken to one hospital near where I was and placed on the operation table.

During that time I was fully conscious and communicating but had that intense pain. Trust me it was intense as I normally have a high tolerance for pain so I know it was bad.

they gave me the usual meds to thin the blood but it wasn't working 20 mins or so later I saw them take my wife and kids away (kids were 14 and 12 at the time)

As they were being led away my wife turned back and saw the monitor and noticed there were starting to show flatline. She worked at various hospitals as a blood collector so she knew all about the screen.

I must have become unconscious somewhere from being given the medication and being placed back in the ambulance yet again.

When I woke up which was confusing at the start as I said I was fully conscious as far as I was aware anyway I realized I was in an ambulance again but with the same professor who was with me at the start.

She told me that it is good to see some color back in my face once more.

I asked her what do you mean by the color on my face?

That is when she told me that she strongly felt and believe that I wasn't going to make it.

You are one lucky person.

Guess someone upstairs either didn't feel it was my time, or they didn't feel like doing their paperwork or, more likely, too much work involved (must have been an ex-government official in their previous life), LOL.

Test results showed later, that one of my main arteries was 100% block hence the emergency operation to have a stent put in. The reason for the other hospital is they had all the necessary equipment and extra staff on hand. So when I got there the professor worked on me again.

Later, after all, was done and while in recovery, was told, another artery is 75% blocked (that got done with another stent 3 months later), and a third was at 50% plus was all due to the major heart attack, I had 25 % Permanent damage to my heart.

I also vomited blood while in the hospital after the procedure that was because when I had the initial pain at the swimming pool where I was I felt like throwing up but couldn't so all that heaving and trying busted some blood vessels and hence the blood later.

So more meditation after the op I spent New Year's day in the hospital and got released on the 2nd Jan 2009

Moving forward to 2021

I went to see a cardiologist a few months ago as my local doctor felt I needed a new check-up as I was feeling for a while a lot of tiredness with minimal effort

Note I hate going to the doctors and hate taking medication now I have to take 16 tablets a day.

So as a result the Cardiologist sent me to do the usual stress test with the treadmill which I couldn't complete fully as my legs didn't want to move after a little while. Actually nearly fell off the treadmill fortunately the assistant was standing behind me and managed to keep me in position.

Again more tests needed after that went to the nuclear medicine dept to get some more tests another stress test this time they gave me an injection which does the same test and walking on the treadmill without the tiredness.

Wish I knew about that before wouldn't have saved all that hugging and puffing along the way.

These tests took just over a month overall. went back to see the new cardiologist he told me the last group of tests showed that now I have 50% damage, of which 40% is permanent, and the other 10% is touch and go.

So, according to him, this damage got worse. WT@

So now I need to go to the hospital tomorrow, Wed 17th Feb. I will be getting an angiogram first and highly likely an angioplasty straight away at the same time.

To open up any blockages that may be there or whatever they may need to do further.

So I should find out just how much damage there is, and they should fix it or so they say.

Hopefully, that is all that is needed; if more is required, I might have to reschedule another time for them to plan their next move.

It may be a one-day stay; but most likely an overnight stay.

Yuck

After typing that last line, I realized if it is an overnight stay, here comes the hospital food, but as I have to fast from 5 am and be there at 7 am to register and wait for my turn.

I might have to eat their food later after the operation is done. I was told today when they rang me to ask the usual Covid question before I turned up once I go in there is around a 4 hour recovery period if all goes well.

Not looking forward to hospital food.

I just wanted to let you all know that I will not be replying or helping anyone during this time.

If I can get to my mobile, I will try, but not a fan of texting; plus, in the cardiology section, I know they tend to cut internet communication due to the sensitive machinery, which is fair enough.

As I won't' be allowed to move around depending on where they do the angioplasty, which could be in the arm or groin area.

So will connect back with you once at home, and all is good,

So I will bid you an early goodnight as I still have many other things to do and get sorted first. Then will have an unusually early night need to get up at 4 am and get ready to go to the hospital it is about an hour's drive but want to try to get in first.

Hopefully that way I won't be on the day's waiting list for long.

In the Meantime

So in the meantime, I will respond at its worse, when I get back home during that time. I want you all to keep going through the training, and if you have already done that, look at Jays' training and from others.

UPDATE

Hi All

Here is my update on the above issue with the procedure.

I came home today after spending around 13 hours in the ward.

They did the Angiogram followed by an Angioplasty.

As they did this via the wrist they also overloaded me with blood thinners before the procedure and took a while for the bleeding from the artery to stop hence the plastic covering on the wrist which is a TR Pressure Band that needs to be on for at least an hour and every 15 minutes they release some air pressure at 3 ml at a time until they are happy there is no more bleeding.

For some reason, they couldnโ€™t clear the blockages but did state that one of the older arteries which had a stent put in 2008 has built up a blockage to around 80%

As I said they couldnโ€™t clear any of the blockages on all three arteries so they have re-reschedule for another day 14th April where they will have a specialized team (according to them) to add another stent in the affected artery that is 80% blocked and they need to work out a way to clear the blockages with the other two.

Not too happy about that but nothing I can do but wait until then.

Thank you all for your comments and prayers very much appreciated.

Andre, Welcome home, sorry to hear they have not sorted everything , then you have to wait until 14th April, for a "Specialised Team" could they have not done it this time round.
You are home, so take it easy we are still here, and I am sure everyone sends there wishes.

Look after yourself.

Murray

unfortunately, the hospital system doesn't work like that. Plus they need to arrange for certain staff to be there on the day.
I am fortunate that it is in April as with the original date the Cardiologist gave me a choice between this hospital I went to today which is just over an hour's drive or a hospital around 15 mins from home.

Unfortunately the one near me the waiting list is so long I would have needed to wait till November this year.

it is a great hospital but the one I went to is one of the best in Australia just today wasn't my day.

I will and am looking after myself as much as I can

Thank you

Well all you can do is the Wealthy Affiliate work, and the time will fly by.

Keep well.

Murray

Be doing that but now it's time for sleep 12.15 am Thursday here in Oz need the rest WA can wait till the morning.

Enjoy your day.

Andre, I feel for you man, and trust me if anybody understands where you're coming from it is me. You certainly had some serious blockages, without question those were widow makers. Before I question you I want to let you know I have almost died four times myself I will only mention two for sake of this discussion, I had a heart attack and I was in a nursing home with a DNR and had to recover on my own. My last bout with death was at the beginning of this last January when I had COVID, I am 74 with COPD and a slightly bad heart. Now my questions for you are what caused your blockages in the beginning I suspect bad food and an extreme lack of exercise. So my question to you now Andre is that you mention you had such a hard time taking the stress test do you not walk much and watch your diet? Please I am not trying to offend but as a quadriplegic, for 12 years now I have learned to be very careful with my diet and do as much exercise as I can and I truly believe that is how I beat that nasty COVID with all odds against me. As far as pills go I take 21 the day, 17 in the morning, and four at night. Andre, I am not picking you only trying to suggest that perhaps there is a way you could live a lot longer simply by following a few simple rules, watch your diet a little closer and exercise a little more. A nice long walk gives you a chance to get some oxygen into your body and helps your brain think a lot more, do not mope but walk briskly enough to get the heart pumping. Just a friend trying to help hope you do not take this wrong.
