Has your Email been breached by Hackers

I didn't plan on writing the blog post but when I looked at some of the attacks that may involve fellow members with certain accounts you may have I felt it was important to let you know.

Which you will see further below

Today I received another spam email this time for what is supposed to be from McAfee, who I use for protection.

I have taken my email address off this as we do get some unwelcome folk here once in a while so not taking chances regardless if it is WA.

I know it is spam as you can see from the image above with the fake email account plus other areas such as Mcaffee won't send me emails like this.

Add to the fact my account doesn't expire till mid-next year so another telltale sign.

Guess being part of WA you get to learn these things along the way.

Even though I knew this was spam I went to my Mcaffee account and found there were 19 breaches on my account. All Relating to my email address which has now been fixed.

The good thing is McAfee gives you details of some of the hacking that has been done for these hackers on the dark web to get my email address.

I haven't been compromised or hacked into any accounts just via email as the image at the top.

But I did find out some accounts I have that were hacked themselves and this is where they got my email address.

You could be one of those as well.

Now Yahoo emails accounts have been targeted but other emails also are always on the list

I can only speak for McAfee so if you have other Protection like Norton or others then it would be a good idea to log in with your protection account and check if any issues have occurred provided they do this.

This is one of the main reasons why I choose McAfee as I found it to be much better than some others.

I did have issues many many moons ago with Norton but have been with McAffee for around 15 years and will remain with them.

Here are some of the information they give you which has occurred over the last few years along with the latest one this year.

Here are some of the breaches that have occurred and you may want to update and even change your passwords

WA Passwords

Now we know Wa has its own way to protect us with passwords relating to our website(s) which can be changed any time by you and also as much as you want along the way.

Many of you should already know this but for the newbies, this may help.

For your WA account relating to your website(s) simply go to the Website icon located at the top menu then click Site manager.

All websites that you have will now appear.

Here you can go two ways to reset your password which should already be random numbers and letters.

You can click Login and your password will show up or click the detail on the bottom right side for that website as shown below.

Once you have reset the password it should appear like this.

The good thing as I said this can be done as many times as you wish as I have already reset this after the above two images so they are not the same now as shown above.

So as you can see some accounts you may be part of like Canva and linked for example have been breached.

I know the date of some of the messages they gave when this was done was either last year or before but I didn't even realize this existed until today when I got this spam email.

So I fixed it with McAffee and now I get this response

So

So as you can see other accounts you may be associated with have been breached where they can use your email for hacking and even if they can grab passwords here and there.

Emails accounts are one thing but your bank accounts are another.

This is very important especially with bank accounts and credit cards or anything that has to do with your money not to save them or at least be easily accessible online

I know trying to remember all passwords are a hassle just try not to same them online instead write them done somewhere when only you know where it is and not available for someone online to get to it.

My password wasn't taken why do I need to change it?

If you feel that is you here is one response to think about.

Safety first.

I know later you will ask yourself this question.

Now where the heck did I keep my list of passwords?

This is why it is important to keep it in a safe place you know is meant for this purpose only which I can't help you with on that part.

I have my way for any main accounts plus I make sure I remember this easily both account login and passwords which are all now different another important aspect.

Don't use the same passwords for multiple accounts

Hope this was of some help to someone.

Catch you all later now to get back to my work online.

I just received that McAfee email. I don't use McAfee so I just deleted the email. Then I noticed two charges on my bank account so I had to cancel my debit card. It's a full time job keeping up with all my passwords! Thanks for bringing this up.
Veronica

yea occasionally I get a Norton email which is a scam saying my account is overdue for renewal. The thing is I don't use Norton so I just mark it as spam then delete it.

Strange that you got charged you must have responded somewhere for them to get to your account.

Just glad you noticed it and cancelled your card and yes, it can be a full-time job with passwords and at times a struggle to remember them.
then again those I don't use much if I can't remember them I just say can't remember the password and this gives me the opportunity to change it anyway
Stay safe and glad I was of some help in bringing this up.

Great post Andre!

I think for a lot of people I know, this type of security is often overlooked until something bad happens!

I've been using one of the mainstream password managers for years. Long unique password for every account and have been known to use random word generators for secret questions!

Also use 2factor where possible for the password manager and ALL financial & social media sites!

Point is don't make it easy for thieves! There are plenty of easy targets for Identity Theft. Don't be one of them!

Best,
Josh

This is just an example of what I would Generate for a new account and store in the password manager:

User: u4xv4b8xtz
Pass: fHh9$!M$zv2xA95

Random word generator for secret questions:
feedback
provide
tycoon
broken
penny

True and thank you Josh yes I have 2 factor for most of my accounts, fortunately, McAfee has me covered and lets me know of such breaches that occur around the world as with some I already gave as an example.
Wishing you well

Andre

Good to hear
thank you for that.
Maybe you should do a training here for the fellow members

Excellent idea!

You are welcome Josh would love to see a training on this and it would be so beneficial to many here.

Thanks Andre,
Yes everything does get hacked. Especially non protected stuff.
Hackers will get in no matter what. If they want in bad enough they get in.
Or they trick you in to opening the doors.

I always get notification about my FB account accessed. 🤔

Thanks again for looking out for us.
Wishing you a Prosperous and Safe 2022.

Thank you Jean, agree hackers particularly those on the dark web know what and how to operate their activities.

They will find a way around many protection. That is why all these programs that are there to secure our safety work hard to update and keep up to date with what they do.

Besides if those on the dark web can get into government sources they can get into ours if they really want to as well.

A pity their talents couldn't be used elsewhere however the unfortunate part is they get good money and for many money talks that is a fact, even if to cause havoc.

Enjoy the rest of your week and weekend coming up.

I was wondering about this. I have received emails to me in my yahoo email from 3 of my domain emails in WA. One or more of the thieves stole the website title also. Their emails come in on what I presume is a landing page, with a link selling something. A bunch of different people come in on any one particular email. How can I make that stop? I suppose I can delete the emails as I don't use them yet, but how do I prevent this from happening to WA email addresses?

Sorry to hear about your website title you will need to contact site support for WA issues.

On your website, you can also make sure that you have some settings in place.

If you go to settings within your dashboard under General setting you will see membership make sure that is unchecked I have given what is should look like for you to tick or untick.

Also again within the settings under discussion I have proved another image for you. to tick where needed.

With the second image make sure you have a tick where it says the comment is held for moderation that way should they come in it will be up to you if you want to accept or click spam then trash the emails they send on your website.

For your Yahoo email when you get them, mark them as spam first then go to your spam folder then tick the box for all and delete.but never click any links either on your email accounts or on your website.

But do let Support know and see where they can help you further.
Wishing you well

Andre
