Benefits of Updating your Old Posts
Hi All
Are you updating those old blog posts or pages you made ages ago?
Have their ranking status decreased as a result of in-action?
If you haven't updated them now is the time to do so and as a result you will see the benefits this will have in gaining the upper hand in ranking your posts back when it should be, at the top or the at the very least on the first page with the search engines.
Let me show you why.
A couple of days ago 17th Sept Australian time I was doing a check on the ranking of some of my posts and noticed one (there are others which I will work on) that was nowhere to be found when I went into Site Rank within Jaaxy.
I even went into incognito mode and still nowhere to be found.
At the time it was ranking well and normally varied within the first two pages.
But that was back in 2014 when I first started.
The only change I ever made was when the monthly membership went up a whopping $2 after being the same for around 10 years.
That was a shock to me I know that would have been tough to deal with but as I remembered that I was a yearly member and the yearly price didn't change so no probs).
Into the Pits
Apart from that I did nothing else and as a result this post was slowing falling down into the Search Engines pits of "We can't find you in the first 20 pages"
So I decided it was time to refresh my post and get it back up in the rankings as it should be.
So what did I do?
There was no need to re do the whole post all that is needed is to just to make some minor changes and that was it.
These minor changes were
- Add and or make some changes within the first couple of paragraphs (don't forget check the spelling as well)
- Added one extra image
- Ensure that there is a Meta Title and Meta Description within the Image I used the Keyword within both.
- Edit and change the date and time within the post (refer to image below)
Once all that is done then save your post first.
The final two steps which is vital are as follows
- Go to your Google Search Console grab your URL and get this re-indexed.
- Go to your Bing Webmaster Tools grab your URL again and get this re-indexed.
Doing so let's both Google and Bing know hey I have changed something on my post come and have a look at it so it can be re-indexed (hopefully in a better position)
That is all you need to do and as a result of these action shown above this is what I got in return when I check the Site Rank within Jaaxy just a little while ago today Australian time 19th Sept.
Yesterday I did a check in the Site rank and only Google shown a number 1 ranking position but today all three gave me a wonderful result and a wonderful start to my morning.
So there you have it the proof on how important it is to re-visit some old posts and make some minor changes.
Remember you don't need to re-do the whole post as there may be many natural keywords within your old post that can still rank as time progresses.

I still have some old posts that need some re-vamping or adjustments.

Before I came to WA I didn't even understand what a blog, a post was let alone creating one.
All this I gained here in WA. I am by no means an expert in creating blogs or post etc but with each day of learning and believing in myself I am going forward.

Interesting. I was told by some prominent folks on here not to bother with this sort of thing, at least not to any great extent. Jay has said updating a few choice ones would be in store for a dead website.

The changes made to my post were only minor just a couple of paragraphs at the start the rest of the post stayed as is.
Yes, updating is certainly worth it as you can see that is why I also posted Jay's video lessons on such changes as well that may help others.
One of the reasons not to change in a big way is that there can be many natural keywords within your posts that can be of benefit along with the fact it could rank under those keywords and not always with the ones you may have aimed for.

Note, this may be just temporary ranking because you requested it by using Fetch. It would be interesting to see what happens with posts after a few days.
I have seen this happening and the post again drops far from the top.

Yes, that is true and I am aware of that.
This post like many other posts whether it's yours, mine or anyone else's out there will go up and down no doubt about that is a fact of Search Engine life.
The fact that this post wasn't ranked at all for such a long time and now it got ranked also shows how important it is to have your posts or pages re-indexed.
So, for now, I am pleased with the results and by being towards the top end of the search engines allows for more visibility.
You only need one person to like the post and take action and should they join WA it was worth it regardless how long it stays at this spot.

Thanks for your blog post link which is mainly an indirect response to this blog as you stated in your first sentence.
Yes at times just doing the fetch in the search engines may help.
It does not guarantee a top ranking not does the method I use either.
However, in this case, it worked and I am pleased with the result.
Regardless if it becomes a temporary position or not.
The fact that it was no longer within the first 20 pages previously for a while which became old content and at least for now it is there.
My aim was to try and get the post back in the search engines and it did temporarily or not it is there.
Also to let others know that revamping old posts can have its benefits.
This I also learned from Jay's (magistudios) videos which I posted in the blog above.
As I stated before there are many reasons why revamping old posts can be of benefit.
I also found that there were incorrect spelling in my post along with a couple of sentences that just didn't make any sense at all.
That would have been due to not editing the post properly in the first place but that has been fixed as well.
Yet another reason to fix and update the post.
