I would suggest leave the html site as it is and build a new site.
Since the Html is already had traffic coming to it, let it stay there.
Just my opinion.

So no plain vanilla html.
I would suggest leave the html site as it is and build a new site.
Since the Html is already had traffic coming to it, let it stay there.
