Do you worry about not eating enough of healthy fruits while growing up? I worry a lot and feel guilty at times as well.

Growing up in a low middle class family in India we typically don't buy apple and grapes unless someone is sick in the family. As a vegetarian, I used to love these fruits but never had enough. They were really expensive for our budget. I was kind of obsessed with apple and grapes possibly because I was not getting enough.

Coming here to US I have plenty of those on my breakfast table or inside the refrigerator.

Looking at the abundance I think of back home where we get cheap regional and seasonal fruits but not apple and grapes. I am not sure it is with all immigrants or not, I like to compare stuff I see here with India out of curiosity.

Not eating apples and grapes in India was one thing, I never can get rid of from mind when I enjoy the luxury of having big boxes of organic apple from Costco. I want to stop being bothered.

What did I do? Compare. Compare the fruit I ate the most with Apple.

Out of curiosity, I decided to check out some fruits I used to eat back at home. My intention was if I find some fruits which has high nutritional value I will share in face book. .

So which fruit did I eat the most?

The fruit I used to eat almost every day was guava. We had 4 plants at home and we used to have the fruit throughout the year. After I come from school, I used to climb on these trees, sit, pluck, wipe it off with the clothes and eat right there until I am satisfied.

Guava was my favorite fruit at home in all reasons. I have eaten plenty of them. So I wanted to know the benefits and nutritional aspects of Guava.

I was pretty sure nutrition of Guava will weigh too low compared to Apple. The reason being I never see that much of guava around nor I see it as a main stream fruit as Apple people talk about.

But I took some courage and decided to compare with apple

Quickly I ran a comparison of nutritional facts of apple and Guava. Thanks to Internet. I was amazed and very happy to see the nutrition. See how ignorant I was.

Guava out competes Apple in all aspects and check by how much?.

Not only that, There are impressive additional benefits from Guava, not reported to be present in the apple ( depicted below in the table).

Guava is mostly organic because the plant does not need insecticides.

Now I feel very happy I had eaten more than enough healthy fruits when I was growing up in India and got rid of my guilty feeling and occasional worries for the rest of my life.

Is guava costly compared to apple. Not at all.

The price is pretty lucrative: $2-3.00 or less in your nearest store. That is how much I pay in Indian store. Organic Apple may be same or higher depending on the kind.

The price of Guava in my place in India is 15-20 cents/ lb. In fact it is one of the cheapest fruits in India and available in plenty. Try some delicious Guava if you visit India. It is available in certain parts of US.

I still wonder why guava is not popular like apple.

"An apple a day keeps the doctor away". This popular adage should be repeated for Guava.

What do you think?

Are n't you already craving for Guava? Let me know.

I think I have had Guava juice.

I love guava pulpy and fruity. Along with raspberries, it ranks as my tastiest fruit!

I think I am going to try my first guava!
