Hello, does anyone know how to set your site to automatically have an affiliate disclosure message on it?
For example I see some pages have something like, "Some links may

I'm not keen to add yet another plugin but I was thinking I might make the disclosure an image and add that below my first couple of paragraphs but before affiliate links. I just read online that a blogger was told, by the company they were promoting, that they had to put the disclosure before the affiliate links.

It also looks good to your readers that you're open and upfront about your business. So if I use an image I can just 'add image' as I write each new post!
Cheers, Alisa

usually, you need to create an affiliate disclosure page Anne.

But you can use a plugin too

For example

https://wordpress.org/plugins/fmtc-affiliate-disclosure/

Perfect, thank you!

You're welcome!

I go for the easy option :-)

Installed the plugin but when I click Settings I keep getting the message: "Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page."

Apparently you need to put the disclosure on EVERRY page and BEFORE the aff links so presumably at or near the top!

How do all the other WA members do it?
Ian

Each plugin is different Ian.

Maybe you should try to find another similar plugin if this doesn't fit your needs.

And check out the link posted by Vickic3 (if you haven't already)

As far as I know, most members are creating separate disclosure pages.

It's the only plugin I can find which deals solely with |affiliate disclosure :-) It's not that it doesn't fit my needs - it doesn't work! :-)

Vicki's link shows how to create an AD Page but, according to the latest (from Scott) it needs to be on every post. I've seen some sites which pop up a disclaimer from the bottom of the page. Actualyl, most of these are the Disclaimer telling you they've captured your sould :-), thing, damned annoying but tht; snother story.

Hello,
So I was getting the same problem until I just went to my site and clicked on one of my articles, and there it was! Have you tried to look at any of your articles since installing it?

You don't need a disclosure on every post.

Here's the official FTC disclosure policy

https://privacypolicies.com/blog/ftc-affiliate-disclosure/#when-do-you-have-to-disclose

And it says that the best placement, from the standpoint of proximity, is to have the disclosure on the same screen as the triggering claim.

In other words, you can have a menu link to a disclosure page in your main menu at the top of your page

Doh! I have now! :-)

Alas, I really don'dt like the wording. A half-decent plugin would give you access to the Settings so you could change it.

Oh dear.

To change the wording go to your desktop mode, go to the left side where there is different menus in grey, you will see the "Affiliate Disclosure" option, click on that then you can change the wording there :)

In your settings*

I don't get that from the article. What I keep getting is that the disclosure needs to be 'in close proximity to the triggering claim' (link). It does talk about being on the same page but a page in this case is about a screenfull rather than the whole 'screen' contining the full article.

Can yoiu quote the bit which suggests it would be okay to put it in a menu link, please?

There is no quote Ian (I think) ...

But is really simple ... The point: you need to have a disclosure information/page in a clearly visible place and easily accessible form to inform your readers. Preferably above the fold. It can be a page with a main menu link, it can be included in each post, etc. And usually is doubled with a footer link too. As far as I know the seperate page with a main menu link is the most common solution.

Just check out a few blogs and posts in your niche and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Doh! Thanks again, Anna :-)

But why can't you get there from their Settings link?

I wonder if you can hyperlink it... :-)

Thanks, Zed, I'll check out some blogs.

One of the posts linked to here (I think it was Scott's) said that inclusion in the footer was not acceptable because visitors would have made a deision to click on the link before scrolling down that far.

Really, they want us to put a bg flashing, neon arrow above the link saying WE MAKE MONEY IF YOU CLICK HERE!!!

Sheesh!

Yes absolutely!
I'm not completely sure honestly, I guess it is a little strange you can't get to it from there (as I looked there first also).
I'm glad you got it all figured out tho!

This is why a footer link is good only as a "doubled" exposure. Not recommended to offer access to that information only at the bottom of your site/post ...

Hi- This will help I'm sure

Thank you!

you are so welcome Anna- Hope it helps
