Paying It Forward
I have always been a big believer in living life with a heart of gratitude, and hand in hand with that attitude is the concept of paying it forward - recognizing the many large and small ways that I have been blessed by others and honoring that by trying to help others.
Two weeks ago, I joined Wealthy Affiliate. I was frustrated by all the expensive programs that had made promises of helping me to grow my online presence only to take my money and leave me on my own. Almost immediately upon signing up for my free membership, members of the community reached out to welcome me, to point me in the direction of the free Online Certification Training and to offer their assistance.
And this was not just lip service. As I have previously reported, I am not a technologically-inclined person. The thought of building a website from scratch in the middle of my busy life seemed overwhelming to me...and yet, within two hours of joining WA, I had a spectacular website built. Better yet, members of the community vetted my website, providing me with constructive feedback as to how it could be improved. They took valuable time away from their own businesses to help me with mine.
When my website was indexed by Google within the first 24 hours of its creation, I was so excited. Members of the community celebrated that success with me. They answered questions that I have had along the way and they have supported my social networking accounts as I have established them.
Along the way, I have been trying to share the blessings that I have experienced here by welcoming new members, providing feedback and comments to others on their pages, and celebrating their accomplishments. Today, I actually had enough confidence to answer some questions of others based on what I had experienced. It felt so good to be able to help others as they are starting the journey I began just two short weeks ago.
They say that an organization emulates its leaders, and I believe that is true of Wealthy Affiliate. One of its founders was the very first person to welcome me here, and both have reached out along the way. They have encouraged the "pay it forward" mentality through the Wealthy Affiliate ambassador program, which encourages all members to be part of a supportive community and rewards them for doing so.
I may still feel like the newbie and be generally insecure about my technical abilities. However, I know that every day, through the focused training programs, I am making progress. I also know that if I have a question, the answer is close by with one of the thousands of community members happy to help. And I know that I feel "at home" with a place that values cooperation and encourages teamwork as we all work toward developing our own successful businesses. I am happy to be here and happy to be able to return the blessings.
