In a recent Q&A document about new Top Level Domains Google said - Q: What about real ccTLDs (country code top-level domains) : will Google favor ccTLDs (like .uk, .ae, etc.) as a local domain for people searching in those countries?
A: By default, most ccTLDs (with exceptions) result in Google using these to geotarget the website; it tells us that the website is probably more relevant in the appropriate country. Again, see our help center for more information on multi-regional and multilingual sites.
If you want global exposure then a .com is the best :)

Keep in mind that you have to add an attribution to the author of the image and the page you download the image from. Make sure you read the licenses from the image you'd like to use. They give you information on this.
But typically, this will do the trick:
© authorname / website url
You can add the attribution within the image, as a caption underneath it or at the and of the post/page you're using it on.
Hope this helps.
