Trading Websites (As Opposed to Selling Them)

So this was just a curious thought I had (as most of the thoughts I have are curious). Do people trade websites? I've been looking around at various sites - Flippa, Human Proof Designs, Empire Flippers, and even FE International, yet none of them have anything about trading websites.

What do I mean by this?

I can go to these various places and buy a website for some price (whether its hundreds, or thousands, or millions of dollars). But I have yet to see a place where you can trade the website that you created for one that is roughly at the same place as your are.

I realize, of course, that many might think this is a dumb idea. Why would you want to trade your website? Isn't the website your life-line to living a more free-er life? Isn't your site something like a child to you, where you've helped nurture and helped grow it to where it is?

So why would someone even consider getting rid of it, and trading it for a completely different site?

The Lack Of Passion

My guess is there are many who are like me. They see the potential for affiliate marketing, and they can put in the work for their sites.

The problem?

Too many things fascinate me, and too few things I'm passionate about. Let me try to explain.

I love to learn. There are very few things I would care to NOT know about. Whether it is making money online, sun spots, or accelerated learning, I'm verily intrigued.

But all these things come and go. I could learn, and write, about the keto diet for about 3 months, putting more than 70+ posts on the website. The only problem after those 3 months, I'll bored of that, and want to start a blog about how great the World Chess Championships are, and how you can best 'up your Elo' rating in chess.

I could write about 'teaching old dogs new tricks' (a site dedicated to help old(er) people learn to use a computer/internet effectively), or write about 18th century farming, and how they farmed, grew, and saved their crops without the use of many of our modern technology.

And the list could goes on.

The Power Of Trading!

That's where this idea of trading comes in. If there were others out there like me, who are interested in many things but not passionate enough about them to keep writing about them for years on end, then it would theoretically work.

So for example, I have a site call badbreathstinks(dot)com. It's a site dedicated to the world of halitosis and how to fight against it. The tagline is: defeating the smell that plagues you (pretty cool tagline BTW).

Bad breath is an interesting niche, but due to my life, I'm no longer interested in this niche.

Why don't you just sell it then?

Selling the site would be a possible idea, but when you're only making $10ish per month, and have had your traffic in the teens daily (as opposed to 40-60 traffic daily) because of Google/the holidays, not many are going to be interested in it.

So you think one of us reading this would be interested in trading your website for one of our websites?

I don't know about that. I would be interested in that if someone was interested. But I'm not sure anyone is actually interested in the oral health world (unless you're a dentist).

I guess I'm just more curious to see if there are others like me out there who would be interested in this type of idea - trading various websites around until each one has found one they like/can stay with for the long run, or get/develop one that they can finally sell and make some $$$ off of it.
