Google Search Console 'Mobile Usability' is showing that I have only 72 "usable" posts and zero "not usable" posts.

My site actually has 225 posts that are indexed by Go

Trish got you covered.

Hey Andrew,

Google searched your questions... see screen print below...

Here are the links to those support documents: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/7440203#63;hl=en

https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/9063469#63;hl=en

Hope you find this helpful.

Many thanks for your support, as always, Trish.

I'm aware of the information in those pages and have been researching to try and find an answer to my question. But I can't find it in those reports.

I should have included these screenshots with my initial question.

Why has google successfully indexed 223 of my posts in screenshot GSCHWHWa, and only 73 of my posts in screenshot GSCHWHWb (mobile usability)?

Is this discrepancy something I should be concerned about?

Many thanks,
Andrew

I'm no Google expert by any sense of the imagination Andrew.

Have found the following documentation that MIGHT offer you an explanation, if you haven't already come across this already: https://developers.google.com/search/mobile-sites/mobile-first-indexing

Thanks once again, Trish.

I'm surprised how difficult it is to get a simple answer to the question.... "Is this discrepancy something I should be concerned about?'

Maybe there is something really simple that I am missing!

Have a great day :-)
Andrew

Was hoping the documentation would be able to answer that question for you.

I tend not to fret about Google like so many others.

My content is written for the visitors, not Google. Sometimes Rank Math is able to correct my structure, and sometimes I ignore their warning too.

If you're looking for something to be concerned with, focus on creating unique and helpful content so Google will love your site.

Remember too, build it and they will come does NOT work. You need to be out there sharing your content on your social media.

When you create and share unique and helpful content, others will help you spread the word by sharing what you post.

I've just had a look at "Breadcrumbs."
It's reporting 74 "Valid" and zero "invalid."

Again, my question is Why? Why not all 225 of my pages?

I suggest posting the question in the gsc community. You may get a direct / most relevant answer

Femi

Good idea. I will try that.

Many thanks Femi :-)

We are but the servants of Mr Google. 😊

Friend, what Google show to searchers depend on what searchers is looking for. If your page is chosen, any portion of your page can be shown or a portion of a page with an internal link to that page.

The only way to mandate Google to show any portion of your article is to ensure that the quality of your content is better than any of your competitors. Google only show snippet that is whole and complete in answering the searchers questions.

Do you agree with me?

Great advice.
Many thanks for sharing,

Andrew

thank you, friend.

I’ve come to learn recently that the search engines choose whatever they want from our article to show people, regardless of what we add to our descriptions. Sometimes it shows the first few lines of the article. Other times they’ll create little bulletpoints of main topics from the article. I never fully understand how they are able to pull random info from our articles and highlight it - but I think it’s their way of showing people what would be most eye catching and clickable.

Thanks for the information.
It does seem that they can pull whatever they want from our articles.
I'm sure they do it for our benefit :-)

Cheers

Yes I do think it's actually to our benefit in the end as well.

Hello Andrew,

Let me share some light on this, Google will be the one to decide what to show in the search results depending on the user's search, it may extract a different snippet from your article to what Google thinks is appropriate to what the user typed in the Search box, not necessarily what you set in the meta description.

But still, it is a good SEO practice to define a meta description and put your keywords in the meta description.

For some reason, I thought we had some control over this.
But now I know this is not the case.
Thanks for the clarification.

Hey
I asked this question before, it is up to Google to decide which meta description snippet best suit its users to display, so it is not mandatory.

Thanks for your reply :-)

You're very welcome.

Hi.

I'm just wondering if MonsterInsights, the WordPress analytics plugin, is any good?

Is anyone using it, and is it of any benefit?

Many thanks,
Andre

Hi Andrew,
I was using it for a short time, only because it was part of the all in one seo update.
However, it’s not needed so I deleted it. I didn’t want to have an unnecessary plugin.
I just use google analytics.

Great.
Thank You.

I did use it a long time ago but before I was ready for it. What put me off was the lack of transparency when trying to cancel.

That said Syed the owner built it himself so it should be good.

As an alternative I use Analytify

Thanks for the info, Dave.
Cheers.

Welcome Andy

The jury is out on thisone.

I think I'll leave it for now....
See what happens in the near future.

Many thanks.

Hi, not using as not required. However I'd try look back why your toolbar is disappearing.

Thank you :-)

So very welcome.

I was using it, and for that short time, it was very good

Andrew, hi. Have you emptied your cache, logged out and try again?
If the problem persists probably try site support

Many thanks :-)

Clearing the cache has solved the problem. I have no idea how or why, or even what the cache is......
Haha.

Many thanks for your help :-)
Have a great day :-)

So happy that the problem is resolved.. Have an awesome day

The cache and cookies clears browsing data.

Its similar to when your kitchen sink won't empty down due to stray bits and needs to be flushed through.

I know. Glad that it is now sorted

Thanks for the explination, Dave.
I get that aspect now.

However, I am trying to edit a new post and the toolbar is disappearing again!!!!
It's remaining at the top of the post and goes out of sight when I scroll down my page.

I have logged out and cleared the cache and cookies two times, and it has not worked this time.

Any other suggestions are most welcome.

Cheers :-)
Andrew

Unfortunately not sorted :-(

The toolbar is disappearing again, and I have ckeared the cache and cookies two more times, and this time it made no difference.

They suggested trying a different browser.
I use firefox.
I tried using microsoft Edge and there was no problem. The toolbar stayed where it was meant to!

So it's a firefox issue????
Maybe I can uninstall their latest update, becaus eI really do not want to change browsers at this time.

Thanks for your support,
Andrew

You are welcome Andrew
Glad I could help

Couple of reasons for it. A it could be theme dependent and B, which editor are you using

Hi Dave.

I changed themes about 4 months ago to BAM free version.
The disappearing toolbar has only been happening for the last week or so.
I'm thinking it was when Firefox did their latest update!

Which editor am I using?????
I write my posts in Word, then put them into the WA editor to add links and pictures, and then publish them and refine them with the WP editor.
Is that what you are asking?

Cheers,
Andrew

Good morning :-)

When I use Google Search Console, I often see my 'pictures' listed instead of the title of my articles.
For example https://healthywealthyhappyandwis

Hey Andrew,

Sounds to me though your pictures were displayed for someone who was searching Google images.

If that is the case, then you may want to opt out. Here's Google's guide to show you how: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6149573?hl=en

If that is NOT the case, Google search something like "why images only listed in my Google search console" (without the quotation marks, of course) and read through the Google guides provided to see if there is something offered that will help you resolve this issue.

Hope you find this helpful.

Unfortunately, it seems the only option with google is:

"To remove all the images on your site from our index, place the following robots.txt file in your server root:

User-agent: Googlebot-Image
Disallow: / "

I assume this will also disallow all of my affiliate images with links, and it will also not allow Google to optimize all my images for mobile devices.
So it's not really an option.

I wonder if it has something to do with the "valid pages" in Search Consol.
My website has 89 articles at present and Google Search Consol is showing 487 valid pages..... So with on average 5 images per article, Google is listing every image as a separate page. Why?

And even worse, there are 1.05K excluded pages.

Sometimes I think there s just too much to try and understand!!!!!

I appreciate your help,

Happy New Year :-)
Andrew

Hey Andrew,

Google uses images when you do a search, and it looks to me though your images have been appearing in their image search results.

By disallowing Google to use your images, all that happens is that they will no longer appear in Google's image search results.

However, some website owners claim that by allowing their images to appear in search results, they gain visitors.

So, the decision to allow or disallow the use of your images being provided by Google in their image search results is up to you.

You asked how to remove your images being listed in your Google Analytics, thus my initial response.

As for the other 1.05K excluded pages you claim, I can only surmise that you have been using NOINDEX on a LOT of your pages.

NOINDEX should be used sparingly and is only meant to be used when you do NOT want visitors finding those pages in Google's search results for anything.

When you DO use NOINDEX you also need to comply by adding THOSE pages to your sitemap, else you will suffer another Google Analytics issue, detailed here: What I always advice newbies is to STICK with Kyle's training and STOP trying to follow all of the new awesome training that other members are sharing... until you totally understand what you need and when you need it.

Hang in there. You CAN do this... I KNOW you can.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge once again :-)

I never use the no-index option.....
Could it be set as a default somewhere in Word Press?

But still, I only have 89 articles.....

I will stick with it, however, it's just confusing and frustrating sometimes.... not all of the time.

Many thanks, and have a great day :-)
Andrew

WordPress has no default settings for NOINDEXing pages. That choice is made using SEO plugins. Which one are you using?

I'm using the AIO SEO standard settings.
They have a new version now that I've been checking out, but haven't made any changes to the default settings.

There's your issue right there.

Here's the training to help you with their latest version: Their plugin MAY have the default setting that needs changing.

Many thanks for your help :-)

Hi Andrew, I also have this issue with a few of my images. Site support suggest looking into nofollow and indexing, but I still haven't resolved. Check the links, perhaps you manage to figure it out.

Thanks for the information. I have asked Israel for some information but have not received a reply as yet.

I thought this might be a common issue with an easy fix, but evidently not.

Many thanks for your time :-)

Hi Andrew, it seems a bit complicated and I´m not technical at all. I just checked site:mywebsitedotcom, and it seems some of the image links are gone.
All I did was revise the alt tags and made sure the title is not repeated. I use the format permalink title and add the image description at the end.
Hopefully, someday I will discover the solution to this.
Happy New Year. Marisa

Hi Andrew you can add a summary through appearance on word press and a read more button which should help, that way they can click on the article.. at least it looks like that is the issue?

Thanks for the information.

A read more button on the single images would be a good idea.

However, the images are just part of my articles and I would need to add the buttons to every image on my articles.
This would just confuse the reader and if they clicked would lead them back to the article which they are already reading.

I'll see what other solutions are provided.
Many thanks for your time.

Happy new year :-)
