A VERY interesting observation!
I began Wealthy Affiliates training program about 6 months ago. A few weeks later I started my fitness gadget site and have since then seen a slow positive progress on the traffic and sales. I really enjoy checking my statistics in Google Webmaster tools and keep a close eye on which keywords that get hits.
I have now finally managed to see a correlation between my high ranking keywords in Google and Amazon sales!
But first ...
I have lots of ranking keywords
I always write my articles with a specific keyword in mind. Usually a low hanging fruit keyword with high SEO score I have found playing around in the keyword searching tool Jaaxy.
Google works in mysterious ways, and many times it's not exactly those keywords I get high rankings for.
Here is a screenshot fro Jaaxy showing a small selection of my high ranking keywords. The one at the bottom here is actually in first place on the first page.
But if you double check these keywords in Jaaxy you will see that unfortunately only 1 of these are really worth ranking for. The one I have on first place, first page hardly get any searches at all in a given month.
Now to the interesting part ...
Good keyword ranking = sales results
The second keyword in the list above is interesting! The one about heart rate monitors for women. A search in Jaaxy reveals the following information:
As you can see here it actually get 252 searches a month, have low QSR and high SEO score! You might think that 252 monthly searches is a bit low, and I agree on that ... but I will show you that it actually generate sales anyway.
When I search with this keyword in Google the SERP looks like this and you can see that my page is high up.
When people click on the '7 Best Heart Rate Monitors...' link they get to this page. It's a comparison post where I have shortly written about 7 Heart Rate monitors for women. I have realized that posts like this with a number in front often get more clicks than pure review posts. '5 best ...', '10 coolest..' etc is good.
On that particular site I have places a product called Polar FT4 on the first place. And the cool part is that buyers either agree with me on this from before they reach the page or they are convinced when they see the product on top.
Converting to sales
Remember... even if that keyword only had 252 searches a month, it's enough to make a few sales through this page on Amazon!
I think this particular example is so good that I have to show you a screenshot from the sales on Amazon Associates earnings report as well.
It's incredibly interesting to see that most of the sold heart rate sensor watches actually comes from this article and that the FT4 which I placed as number one is the product with most sales!
So ...
A high ranking keyword with a lot of searches a month, leading to a page where I have rated several products and clearly one of them is better than the rest = sales on Amazon.
:)
Have a nice day,
Andreas

Very interesting. I haven't made my first sale yet. Just about everything I write is low hanging fruit...very low hanging fruit. I think my biggest problem is I'm not writing nearly enough. I hope to change that soon.
I discovered this too Andreas, my first sale was from high ranking keyword page linking to another product page with low rank keyword.
Good result!
Nice! This is exactly why I think the 'Low Hanging Fruits' webinar tonight will be a good one.
Wow! Thanks for sharing this.. I hope I will have my website up soon and hopefully will get some sales too
