The more social, the more benefit? No !

Hi guys,

After I have finished Course 4 lesson 10 and used many social medias out there to promote my website ( AnasTablets.com ) I realized that some of the social media is a waste of time, and I believe my time is really precious.

I tried Facebook in the beginning and realized that Facebook does not really engage you with the type of people you want. What I mean, that maybe Facebook will engage you with some people out there, but not customers. I believe that Facebook is just a waste of time. I didn't get that benefit from using it. I don't know if you agree with me in this point or not, but I'd like to hear from you.

Google + really rocks, I feel that it really spread your word, and let you engage with many people specially the people that you don't know. The more people you are engaged with, the more traffic you bring to your site, and more people means more potential customers. I do recommend that you use Google + as of your basic social media marketing tools. If you didn't get a Google + account until now, you can get one from: http://plus.google.com

Pinterest -in my opinion- is one of the most effective and powerful social media out there, why? because it is visual, it uses images, and the quickest way to grab someone's attention is by using images and videos. Plus, you can easily market your niche to many people that you don't know via Pinterest and that is the point, you grab their attention and who knows maybe you would grab their loyalty. If you didn't create an account yet on Pinterest, please do: http://pinterest.com

Twitter also is a very good and a powerful social media that will let you gain traffic to your website, specially if you did not forget to use #Hashtags.
Hashtags works like magical keywords on Twitter. It bring a real huge traffic to your website if you were really smart and know how to use smart words to make people want to read your article, like Yahoo for example, look at their news, and you will get my point, take a look at these examples:

- A 10 years old boy drove a car at 90 Miles/hour - What happened?
- A Police man is walking in the street with a bullet in his chest - Is he alive?
- A German Sheppard has fallen from a 2 story building - Still Barking?

Who would not click after reading the above titles?
I believe many will do.

About the other social media like linkedin, tumblr and reddit, I think that it will all work, but it really depends on how you use it and why you use it. If you are using it because you got hooked to it, then you are wasting your time. But if you are using the social media as a tool to market your business, then you are on the right way. Hear this from me:

" Make the social media a tool in your hand, don't be a tool in social media's hand "

Important Note: Don't hook yourself in too many Social Medias out there, just choose 2 or 3 Social Medias that you think it will work properly and help you spreading your word.

And always remember this golden rule in Online Business, " Don't forget to HOOK your customers " not just by choosing the right title, but by letting them want to come back to your site soon.

I hope that you benefit from this article and spread it if you like it.
One more thing, please let me hear from you all:

Q: What social media did you like and think it will benefit you and what that you didn't like and you think it is a waste of time?

I'm with FB, Twitter, G+ and Pinterest. When I've written a new post I share it on all of these, but I never then sit and scan through them 'socially'. I do check every now and then to see any new followers and I then follow back, or to see how many shares and +1's I've had. But, thankfully, social media hasn't sucked me in - business wise at least :D
I totally agree with what you're saying - don't use social media if you've been hooked into it. Only use it if it's something you've found to be advantageous. If a particular site hasn't worked for you, don't waste your time on it.
For example, Twitter. I do have a personal Twitter account. But since I (as you can see) tend to write A LOT, the character restrictions irritated me, so I literally NEVER use it. But with my business account it means that I say what needs said and move on, and I know that no one expects more than that.
I'm new to Pinterest and G+ and I have to say that I love them both, even though I only use them for business. I am thinking of opening personal accounts for these, but then that's where I'd definitely have problems time-wise :D
Great post you've done here, good stuff! :)

Thank you Jyl
I thank you for your useful reply.
Best of luck in your business path :)

I agree, the more social you are the more time you are usually wasting that could be dedicated to productivity with your business. People tend to think being on social networks talking about their business and sharing their business is the best spent time. It by no means is.

Engagement is what you are after. If social can create this, then it is can be a useful medium. This is discussed in detail in Level 4 of the training as I fully believe far too many people waste too much time on social "hanging out" which detracts with the progress of their actual business.

I totally agree with you.
Thank you for your comment Kyle :)

Sounds like you have been doing a lot of research. Your findings tend to agree with some of the website gurus here on WA.

Thank you for your comment!
I'm trying my best.

Interesting article!

I agree *mostly* on the FB front - I say mostly as I have never considered this as a marketing tool previously. I saw this as only a place where I would engage with friends (and therefore not want to bother them with my business stuff!) - except for the fact that I now find myself in a position where my niche is in several of the FB groups I am on and so it would be silly NOT to promote on there now. The success or lack thereof is still to be tested, as are other social meddia channels presently.

I see myself as focusing mainly on FB, LinkedIn and Twitter, because these are the social media channels that I personally use most. From a personal perspective, I have never got the hang of Pinterest. I will definitely give it a go from the business perspective and I am not quite sure about it. As I haven't seen the personal benefit, I guess I can't see how it would attract my customers and I will definitely try to understand it more and give it a go!

You mention G+ and once again, I never really used it before but I am just learning about it and getting into it now and I guess I see one of the major benefits of that as gaining trust with Google.

All in all, and most importantly as I get into using some social media myself, this is a timely reminder reminder to not get too carried away with it all - and to not allow it to take over my activities too much. Ultimately, the goal is traffic and google rankings - NOT FB likes!!

Thanks Anas-Saras!

Sarah

Wonderful Sarah, you are welcome.
I agree with you.

I like twitter most:)

Twitter rocks actually :)
Smart choice.

I like Twitter and Pinterest, Google +. Not so much success with Facebook. Overall, it is best to check these social places, when you wait for bus or train.

I see that you agree with me about the effective social medias.
Great! cause many people waste their time waiting for transportation.
