Reality Check Please

I am trying to find out how long I have been with WA, and can't seem to figure it out, but I think it is about 2 months. In that time, I've learned WordPress, and almost finished my certification/training. I have learned about keywords, long-tail keywords (I thought it was some kind of fish) and each day I am interacting with some very interesting people from all over the world!

I am very excited about all of this, because I have several ideas to explore, all on WA. My concern is that this seems to be taking forever, and I know that nothing ventured nothing gained, and that anything worthwhile is going to take time.

Is it realistic for me to think that I can make some serious money here? "Serious" is a relative term, but I thought I could start by making about $2k a month. I am just starting to sign up with affiliates, but each one is more frustrating than the last. Links are broken, there are no directions, sizes are wrong, etc.

I need a reality check -- is anyone actually making any money out there...?! If not, I need to re-evaluate my options as I try to re-invent myself and take my business in different directions. Thanks in advance for your input!

Hi Amy, I jumped in expecting to earn big bucks fast, but in reality its all up to me. Learning all the material, taking my time, asking questions and interacting with others. Patience is the key and so is hard work. You will get there, just like I will and many others.

Thanks Lori -- very well said, and so true...!

Hi Amy,
I have talked with people that are making money. All of the people are pretty new so they are making a little to start with. One woman in one month did make a sale.
This is not a fast thing, it will take at least 4 months I hear. There is so much to learn. I am taking my time trying to really learn how to do this right.
I have been enjoying writing people from all over the world too.

Ruth

HI Amy There is a blog that Iscool78 posted on people who have made money. Here is the link:

Hi Amy:

As far as checking to see how long you have been with WA, go to your profile and under your username, you will see where it says "Joined February 2017"

As far as wanting to make money NOW type of philosophy, let it go...that type of thinking will lead to you quitting. Success is the sum of small efforts....repeated day in and day out.

Remember the story of Thomas Edison and his discovery of electricity? To quote him, "I have not failed, I have just found 10,000 ways that won't work....."

Steph

Thank you, Steph - such great advice and I love that quote!
The encouragement I am receiving here is so nourishing for me, and thank you for being a part of that.

Wow, Steph, I love that response! I am now following you.

Sounds like you're expecting too much after just 2 months or so, Amy. It's probably going to take at least a year before the income equivalent of a full time job starts to come in. Look at what you've achieved in the short time you've been here. There are people who don't do that in 2 years and then leave saying WA doesn't work. You've got a great site - I know because I commented on it yesterday - and you can build on that time and time again.
Your frustrations are the same ones everyone goes through, even the ones who are earning 6 figures now would have all gone through it.
Think of how much money you would like to earn and then ask yourself how long it would take you in a job and all the hoops you'd have to jump through. WA is the better option.
It's not easy - nothing worthwhile ever is and nor should it be. But it is simple. There's a big difference between easy and simple.
Stick it out, push through the self-doubt and believe it will happen for you, because it will.
Rich :-)

Hi Rich -- your message was so encouraging to me, and I thank you for that. Are you honestly saying that I could make a full-time income here...? I suppose that number is relative to different parts of the country, but here in NY, it would have to be substantially higher. But that's okay. I also work for a law firm so I don't need this to be full-time -- anything would be good...!

BUT -- what sets me apart from the other people here who have made nothing...? I have seen their posts and comments and I am afraid that I will be one of them, and so I panic and think that I should just quit while I am ahead.

I can't imagine earning 6 figures with this -- or even 3 figures...!
I am interested to know what makes someone successful here as compared to someone who isn't successful here? What is the key component of their success?

People are earning big money here, Amy, and they all started out as newbies. This is a glass ceiling opportunity. Not everyone will earn big bucks although the potential is there for everyone to do so. Your self-doubt is blocking this good coming to you. Let it go. I know that probably sounds a bit 'spiritual' or 'new age' but it's true. The fact that you are in the legal profession shows that you are very bright academically and that should be an advantage to you here - just so long as you don't overthink! Don't concentrate on the results early on. Just concentrate on the doing and the results will come :-)
Rich

Another nugget of wisdom...! Thank you -- that made my day.

If you have the budget try the Boot camp lessons and Kyle has a lot of training how to do PPC like Bing Ads or Adwords. They are expensive though so I stayed away when I started. I made my first sale 25 days after joining and reached active affiliate status in less than 2 months. This is the real deal.

Bootcamp, huh? I guess that is a whole new level...? Is that the black icon at the top with the airplane?! What is "active affiliate status" and what does that mean? Thank you.

That's the training for promoting Wealthy Affiliate. That's the training on the left of this page. "Active Affiliate Status" is the level Kyle will give you when you make at least 5 premium referrals or sales.

Okay cool -- thank you.

Hi, Amy...

It is realistic to plan on making a fulltime income online...It does take time, and also it depends on what your income goals are...Mine are not that far off from yours, it seems...

I have been involved with online marketing for 2 years now, and the income only this year will reach the levels I envisioned about a month into the effort...

BUT, depending on your niche and efforts, it can and has gone faster for many people here...I am a slow learner or maybe was not focused enough, there are just too many ways to go with this online opportunity...

I have settled in now to my comfort zone for online business and things are progressing at an ever faster rate...Because of a narrower focus, my daily actions are all moving me forward...

If I had not stuck it out or continued to be distracted by the many options an online marketer has, I might not be able to state this even after 2 years...

So I guess bottom line is that there are many factors as to whether your vision is realistic...It depends first of all on you, your work habits, and you taking action to build out the business you envision...

There are any examples of success here...Some people are making 10k a month or more...I would say that is a pretty good income, and achievable for many...

You can do it too, I believe in you!

Of course, the 4 letter words "Plan" "Work" and "Acts" are requisite pillars of your business and key parts of the formula...

But you already know this...

Cheers!
Dave : )

Thanks, Dave -- this is all very encouraging to me. As I mentioned in my comments to @RichBrennan above, I don't know what sets the successful ones apart from the ones not making anything. I realize that I have to reset my expectations, but I need to know what to do to ensure my success.

Nothing is certain, of course, but I need to do everything I can do to make sure that IF there is success to be had, that I will see it.
Know what I mean?

And yes, there are a lot of distractions here -- from answering messages and interacting with the community, to learning about plug-ins and how to set up tags and how to place the html code -- it is hours and hours of distractions and sometimes I don't think I am moving forward...!

Thank you for listening!
Amy

Amy, I have had similar questions. I have made a few dollars through Google Adsense but that is it. I have been a member about two months as well. Frankly, I am going to stick with it because I really enjoy the work. That level of enjoyment (which is combination of the work and the lifestyle that comes from working at home) has given me staying power. So, I guess I will ask you, "Are you enjoying the process and the work?"

What if you were to take your businesses in a different direction but continue to maintain your websites? You could slow the pace on your websites. Would that work and/or be appealing or an aggravating distraction?

Good luck in your decision. Your drive will insure your success -- whatever decision you make.

Thank you, Steve -- you are on to something here, because I do need to re-evaluate my businesses and put something on the back burner before I burn myself out...! The aggravating distraction is to be struggling with the bills, and I have to do whatever it takes to mitigate that situation.
Thank you for the valued input!
/a.

Amy is an experienced marketing professional and excels at copy which I'm guessing is one part of the equation some affiliates still need to master.

I'm looking forward to the replies weighing in on the answer to get question, is anyone in the same boat as her and already earning some income?

Her**

Thank you for that nice compliment...! It seems that people here are making some serious money -- and I think if we all continue to move forward and go through the requisite training, this will work!
How about you? What has your experience been here?

Hi Amy,
I'm going to be away from my desk for a few days due to my mom's passing this past weekend but if time permits and you can chat for a few minutes here's my number. I would like to if you can.

Some of these replies are very insightful. Would love too discuss

Hi Kay,
For some reason your message escaped me and I just saw it. I am so very sorry about your mom. How are you doing?

I don't know your age, Amy, but whatever it is, it's taken you this long to become who you are today.

Now, you say you want to re-invent yourself. I suspect a lot of us are here for similar reasons. Does two months really seem realistic to you? A baby is hardly even crawling in two months.

It could take 6 months before you see your first sale. It could take two years. Then again, you may get your first sale this week. But first, you have to build authority and trust. People already know where to buy the things they want online. Your existence won't come to them in a dream.

The truth is, it can be a challenge just to get your first affiliate approval. But don't give up just because of a few obstacles. There will always be something new that pops up to slow you down. A new regulation by Google, changes to the rules for affiliates by your autoresponder company, running out of ideas, running out of money.

The only way you won't succeed is if you stop trying. So, keep going through the certification training. Don't skip any steps. We all have to crawl before we can walk, walk before we can run, and hit a few speed bumps before we can drive really fast.

Hope this helps.
Hal

Thanks, Hal. I appreciate your honesty and really true assessment of this process. I have seen too many webinars from people claiming that if only I did this or that, that I would make millions. I was so tempted to plunk down $4000 or more to sign up for training that ultimately ended up to be nothing. So glad I did my due diligence and signed up here, instead. It is the first place I found that truly has remained in reality. Imagine that...!
I am trying to cobble together a decent living and you're right. We just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other. What else is there?
Thank you again,
Amy

If you're going to plunk down big money, you need to do your research and find a mentor who will work with you one-on-one to help you develop your business. This person would have to have a proven track record of their own.

If you can afford it, you might want to look into Marie Forleo's B-School. I think she only enrolls once a year. Maybe twice. But before you even BEGIN to consider it,learn who she is and watch some of her free Tuesday weekly videos on Marie TV.

Just search Youtube for Marie TV. You can thank me later.

Did you take her course? I've just been on her site for a long time, and she sounds amazing -- she also has a scholarship that she offers to a bunch of people -- have you learned a lot from her?

I have not taken her course, but hers is one of the first I would consider. She's besties with Oprah and Tony Robbins and, well... she's the real deal. For now, I take advantage of her free inspirational videos which usually come out every Tuesday.

Anyonevcan relate to her, and she's been through what most of us have or are going through now. I knew you'd appreciate me turning you on to her. It would be nearly impossible not to learn a lot from her if you spend any time in her site.

Yes, and thank you -- she is amazing, and I will watch her videos to get a better feel for her knowledge. Have to poke around to see how to apply for her scholarships. Thanks...!
