I've struggled the past several weeks to understand a number of things related to WordPress. As I've looked at other's sites I've thought, "That's the way I want my site to look," but I just couldn't figure out how to get it the way I wanted it.

Finally, today, I think I got to the point where I had answers to my questions and my site looks like I want it. Now I even feel like I understand how I could do some of those things several different ways. What a relief to my brain!

Take a look. I'm feeling pretty good about it. My site is http://www.coolbaseballmemorabilia.com/. Now all I have to do is write better content so I get ranked above page 5!

So, the point is - If any of you feel overwhelmed by all the new knowledge you are having thrown your way, just keep plugging along. Figure out what your question is (that's hard sometimes), and post it to get the help you need. This is an awesomely helpful community. You'll get past the bump in the road and be on your way again soon.

I can definitely relate to the feeling of being overwhelmed and needing answers to get the website looking the way you desire. I really like what you have done with your site, and look forward to following your continued development of it! Christa :)

I really like your site. I'm not a sports fan but my son in law collects baseball and football memorabilia so I'll refer him. I think many of us have felt overwhelmed but there is always someone with an answer if we can come up with a straight question. :-)

Thanks! Yes, framing the straight question is the tough part ... plus getting past pride once in a while to actually post the question (getting past the feeling that we will look stupid).

Good work. You are an inspiration to me because I'm still struggling and overwhelmed. But, I'm sure there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
I like your website a lot. It's got a nice clean feel to it. What I like most is the drop downs from the Topic menus, that's something I really want on mine. The other things was getting the Privacy Policy down in the footer. I tried that for two days with expert help and finally gave up when it came down to moving HTML code around. HTML code is what stopped me from building websites 15 years ago. A man must know his limitations. 8^(
I have a question, how hard will it be for you building your next website?

Hi Phil. Keep going! I can't express how frustrated I was about three weeks ago. I just could not figure things out.

This whole post was based on figuring out the drop downs while not eliminating my initial pages, getting the Privacy Policy at the bottom, and figuring out how I wanted my sidebars to look (in other words, figuring out what the widgets were and how they fit).

I certainly can give you some pointers on that. I got the information on the "Return to top of page" from another post and then figured out the HTML for the Privacy Policy link (I have used HTML in the past).

How hard will it be to build my next website? Much easier, at least to get to this point! I have a much deeper understanding of how Wordpress is organized now.

By the way, Phil, some themes allow you to put a custom menu into the footer portion of your website. Mine did not, so I had to use HTML embedded in a "text" widget.

Check yours. Go to Appearance / Widgets and then click on the Custom Menu widget. Mine says I can put it in the Primary Sidebar or the Content Sidebar. When I tried to put it in the Footer area, it didn't work. If yours does not have a restriction like that, then you can simply drag and drop the Custom Menu into the Footer area and then set up the menu with just the Privacy Policy.

I think I'll make a post about how to use HTML to put a link in the footer.

BTW, love the picture of the green monster !

Great picture, isn't it? I had a chance to tour Fenway once and sat in the front row seats looking down that monster.

I like the look and feel. What is the name of the name of the Wordpress theme you are using?

The Wordpress theme is MH Magazine Twenty Fourteen. To be frankly honest, I would not choose this theme again. It doesn't seem as flexible as some of the others. Then again, I'm such a novice with Wordpress that I'm not sure whether that is really true. I got it to this point.

Your site looks good. I am having a hard time figuring out what my site "might" look look when looking at the sample Wordpress themes....

Me too! My brain never has processed "interior design" concepts in a home (my daughter is great at it!) nor can it "see" what a website will look like. Of course, we started with no tangible knowledge of what we were heading into so I guess that makes sense.

I kind of like having two sidebars but it may be cluttering up the pages.

I agree about having the sidebars. Looking forward those are going to be the " money" slots. Seems to me they needed to be given some consideration .

I like your site design, Allyn. I'm not a big fan of this theme because many use it without a top image and I think the site name on the top left is too small and gets dwarfed by post titles. However, putting that great pic at the top really changes the look! The content will come. Just keep writing!

Thanks Carla. At one point I really wanted to ditch the WP theme because I didn't like it either. I agree that the site name is too small but I kept working it until I liked it.

I agree! I'm very close to just changing my theme but worry about losing the stuff I've got so far, and starting over.Yours is very "clean" and neat! Very nice!

Hi Terry. I've actually had to "adjust" my theme. I started out too broad. It has taken probably 3 weeks to finally come up with a revised theme that still fits within my domain name and original niche idea. So, don't abandon everything quite yet. Think it through. You picked your niche and domain name for a reason. We grow from this stuff!

True. This is why I have had to change my intentions of throwing this computer out the window, multiple times a day! I will make it work. I just need to pick up the pace a little. Figure how to retain all the information that everybody has been so helpful with. FREE Pepper Spray for everybody!!! Just kidding, I'd go broke!

LOL! I was a software person in the computer industry for years but I struggle with "hardware". Believe me, my computer has come close to being tossed many times over the years.

Looks great Allyn, I left you a comment on your site.

Thanks Kim!

Your welcome Allyn.
