Follow your course of action to the end

Every once in a while I see a post that questions whether Wealthy Affiliate is for real. Typically, the writer mentions that they have had one or more bad experiences with other entities that they label as scams and they want to be assured that they won't encounter yet another similar experience. It's possible that they have had someone close to them laugh at them for trying "yet another idea." Maybe that friend or spouse or family member even said something like, "They are all the same - all get-rich quick schemes that don't work."

I've seen a few other posts, less common than the "scam" question, where an individual hesitates on making long-term goals, committing only to work at this if it makes enough money to cover the costs.

These mindsets need to be overcome, obviously, for the person to achieve success.

I Can Be My Worst Enemy

To be honest, I can't say that I haven't had a moment or two of doubt cross my mind since I joined WA just over two months ago. Every once in a while, when I get really tired or am feeling stuck because I don't understand something, my mind starts to question whether I can ever be successful at this business.

My biggest critic is me! I can be my worst enemy if I allow it.

But I Know Better

But, I know myself well enough to know that I can do this. My timing won't necessarily be quick, nor will it be like someone else's. It's up to me, my ability to learn, my effort, my writing of content.

Recently, I came across a quote of Ralph Waldo Emerson that expresses the right way of thinking, the right course of action, when doubts or critics start to push in.

This is what Emerson said,

“Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage.”

Your Road To Success

If you ever doubt yourself or have someone serve as a critic of your course of action, think on Emerson's words. You can do this! I can do this!

Have courage. Follow your course of action to its end.

Great blog post Allyn and I totally agree with you! Luckily for me I start noticing when I'm on the path to becoming my worst enemy and I can stop myself. I breathe, watch some TV or movies or do some household chores and then continue on.

That is an important part of the cure - noticing when you are going down that path. Good for you!

It sure is :)

Well said. This is one of the reasons I tend to not share my plans often with my family. I made a decision awhile ago to keep negativity away from me as much as possible. And family can sometimes be the worst ones because they think they can say whatever they want (be rude).
I choose to just leave them out of the equation instead of hearing what negative things they have to say.
I tell my daughter all the time she has to make her own decisions for her family because they are the ones who will deal with the consequences of those decisions (good or bad).
Never accept influence from someone who has no stake in the outcome.

Yes, yes. There is a tendency for some of us to want approval from family and support. Sometimes it comes, but sometimes they want to decide for you. They mean well, but you know more what is behind the decisions you make, the research, the why of the decision. Nothing is guaranteed, but a lot of the time diligent, persistent work brings rewards in some form.

and sometimes it's just that you want to say back to them, "See... I told you this would work!" Even if it's just once. ;^)

Yes, family can sometimes be the worst. It may be that they don't want to see you get hurt. Other times, as you have expressed, they just tend to be negative. And, as I mentioned previously, sometimes they are afraid you will end up being better off than them!

If they are negative, it's best to do what you have done - leave them out of it. You have our support!

Thank you and you have mine :)

Great can do attitude.

You are so right! Make a plan and stick with it.Doubt just makes things harder. That's why I like it here. I can go back to things I don't get until I do. Glad we don't have to pay by the hour ; )

LOL! Me too. That would be expensive.

Perish the thought Terry! I'm in enough trouble already!!!

Thought perished! POOF!!!...Yeee!!

Great blog and that is a great quote! Thank you for sharing! :) Christa

Thanks. I needed that inspiration today. Great quote! ~Debbi

Allyn: I am 4 score in years. I am determined to do this & make it work. I may not be quick - but I shall muddle through. I shall

We can do this!

Excellent article. Thanks so much. It's very true, I have people close to me telling me this won't work. I just say thank you and continue to believe that it will work if I put in the work.

Sometimes people say that because they don't want to see anyone else do better than them. Other times it is just that they can't open their minds up to possibilities. Either way, you'll win by reacting the way you do!

Good inspiration, Allyn! I like that quote. There will always be a naysayer telling you why you can't do it. We need to be deaf to that person.
