How to be more accountable...

I wrote a blog post last week about accountability looking for a few people who would be interested in meeting a couple times a week to talk about our sites and to keep each other accountable to the goals that we had set for ourselves.

Unfortunately, there were no takers, but I did get some really great advice from a community member. I am kicking myself for not writing their screen name down in my notebook because I had planned to give them a shout out for the awesome idea. So if you read this, please leave me a comment so I can thank you properly!

Leverage the WA community!

The wonderful advice was to for me to start writing a weekly blog here at WA on Sunday or Monday that outlines my goals for the upcoming week. This will make me accountable to the entire WA community! Then, on the following Friday or Saturday, I write another blog post to share with everyone how well I did achieving my goals for that week. What a simple and smart solution to my problem!

My Goals for the week of July 7-13, 2019

  • Complete Lessons 8 - 10 in Phase 1 of Bootcamp
  • Complete at least Lessons 1-5 in Phase 2 of Bootcamp
  • Create at least 3 new posts to my site (including any assigned posts from the training)
  • Stay active in the community by:
    • Welcoming at least 2 people to WA each day
    • Congratulate at least 2 people on going Premium each day
    • Try and answer at least 2 questions asked by community members each day

And for extra credit:

  • Start working on building my social media channels
    • Sign up and complete profiles for The New You Me
      • Facebook
      • Twitter
      • Instagram
      • Pinterest
      • YouTube
      • LinkedIn
    • Start interacting on the different channels
    • Research which channels to focus my energies on

So there are my goals for the week! I be back this weekend with an update on how I did for the week!

Also, if anyone is interested in forming a mastermind group with me to meet via skype once a week or so just to talk about out businesses, brainstorm, and bounce ideas off of one another, please leave a comment below! I think it would be super helpful just to have someone to actually talk to (vocally) about ideas for posts and anything really so if that sounds like something you might be interested it, either leave a comment below or private message me!

Until then, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that there is a mastermind group in my very near future!

Such excellent goals and work plan here... excited to watch them roll out for you!
To your success :)

Hey Judy,

Thanks for the support! Here’s to an amazing future!

Cheers,
Allison

Hi Allison,

Some of us need that extra boost to keep motivated and focused in life and our businesses. Life itself can become a major hurdle for business owners to overcome.

So staying focused can become a vital aspect as to whether your business fails or succeeds, I think you are on the right track, by holding yourself accountable to the members here at WA.

As you stated in our conversations with each other, you do better in a classroom full of people than off by yourself.

I also think that this is something you need to try to overcome because, in reality, a business owner is accountable to only those they feel accountable to. Mostly to themselves and their immediate family.

While a mastermind group does have its benefits with learning different techniques, styles, methods, and generalized strategies. Sailing solo is what makes our businesses unique they become a reflection of ourselves, especially for those offbeat niche websites.

I guess what I am trying to say here, is each website is different and geared toward different customers. What works for Joe's woodworking website might not work for Jill's jewelry designing website and Vise Versa. Even though both are related in many ways they both will have completely different customers or readers interested in what the website has to offer them.

If your niche is geared toward a younger crowd like generation X (let's say gaming) Facebook advertising might not be a good form of advertising for that niche type of a website.

At the same token Facebook, advertising might help draw in traffic for a quilting website which is geared toward the baby boomers generation or those that have retired (not saying everyone that does quilting is over 40, but most are).

Not all strategies work for all websites it is a trial and error attitude that sometimes works best to find out where your website fits in the market you are involved in.

I personally have found that I can hold myself very accountable to me, and I do not have a stronger critic of my work than myself. I have been known to stir the kettle up a bit from time to time. But I know it was in the interest of making things better and not so much as ranting.

Regardless I hope you find what works best for you and your business. If we don't try new things we stop growing and learning: when that happens everything around us suffers.

Learn more, earn more, but earn while you learn is the greatest.

Always move forward.

I hope it all works out for the best in the long run for you!!

As always here to help when and if you need it.

Living Life Large, Calvin

Hey Calvin,

You make some very good points that I will be sure to keep in mind as I get some experience under my belt!

Thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful comment, also! I am grateful to have you in my network here at Wealthy Affiliate!

Cheers,
Allison

Hi Allison
Within the community here in WA, there are a lot of experts and really awesome people who offer support, encourage and offer great answers to questions. It is a huge mastermind group here in WA.

Many members are so busy growing, learning and building online and some of us have accountability partners we have formed a connection with here and I hope you find a great person to do this with along the way.

I also think once you do the training step by step, you will feel less of a need for a group as you too will have direction and more focus as you go through all the lessons and completre each task
I hope this helps a little for you
Go well and learn it all
Vicki

Hello Vicki,

Thank you for your kind response! I’ll keep all of that in mind. I really appreciate the encouragement and hope to interact more with you in the future!

All the best,
Allison

Great connecting with you Allison :)

Hey Alli... I think an accountability partner would be awesome! I'm new to the group. Arrived on Friday. If you're still open to the idea then let me know.

Either way, I'm going to use this idea.

Welcome to WA, and I am definitely open to the possibility!

I would love to see how it goes so why don’t you leave me a private message with where you are in the world (time zone) and what days and times would be good for you.

I’ll do the same and we’ll see if we can make it work! I look forward to getting to know you better in the near future...

All the best,
Allison
