Brain Development, Born Free or Needing Fixing

Some have said that each of us is wired a bit differently. Could that be because we may have been born with less than 14-16 billion neurons; connected by synapses, communicating with each other through axons, immediately sending pulses to distant parts of the brain and body to all our recipient cells? Our muscle activity, reflexes, hormones, and sensory input are all controlled by our brain -- almost like a biological computer, by acquiring, storing, and processing data in various ways. The brain determines how to experience the world around us. It remembers perfectly...or is it true that 3 bystanders seeing a car crash will remember the car color quite differently?

Some persons remember detail in intricate spatial perception. Bright, vibrant color through eye-sight, taste like a trained chef, identifying smell more intense than sweet and sour, excellent hearing clear across the room, and the silken or sand-paperish touch and feel. These sensing organs associated with each of these, send information to the brain to assist in understanding and perceiving the world around us. These eight sensing systems are labeled: visual, tactile, auditory, olfactory, gustatory, proprioception, vestibular, and interoception.

Remember the Blind Men and the Elephant poem by John Godfrey Saxs? Six blind men went to see an elephant. One claimed it was like a wall, another a spear, a tree, a snake, a fan, and a rope. Though each was partly right, all were in the wrong.

What if you were born without all of these senses, or if you were injured in a car accident or fell off the swing-set or high-slide as a child? You may be wired differently. Your injuries may have healed causing scars or missing connections. Maybe your neighbor remembers detail perfectly. You may be good at reading quickly but your comprehension may be lacking.

We are not the same! There are no duplicates. A woman and a man retain information in different ways. A man can be a great cook and a woman can weld metal sculptors. There are Mr. Moms and Ms. Executives. You may be a great Blogger and your friend may be an excellent Affiliate Marketer or e-Commerce guru. This is not right or wrong, it just is!

After a bad car accident, I was hooked up to an apparatus similar to the picture above. My job was to move colored lines on a computer screen above the solid blue line in the middle. The exercise was very difficult. I could do it with practice. My missing frontal lobes were being rerouted to other synapses areas to create my ability to remember phone numbers again, where I couldn't put two numbers together after the accident.

Our brains are marvelous. Injuries can be overcome. We can deal with our differences from each other as adults, as we did as children. Children automatically accept each other. One of the girls on my block was deaf, another had down syndrome, another a clef pallet, another was born outside of the states, another had a bad temper, another was sweet; we were all different and we all got along well. As adults, we could learn from children. As my mother used to say; play nice, be home before dark, and if you can't say something nice about another, don't say anything at all. I believe Thumper the rabbit made that statement gold!

Very true words here, Christie! Our brains are the most vital organ next to the heart, my friend!
