Overcoming Adversity

Adversity may seem insurmountable and at times every small challenges, expand and become a major roadblocks in your life.

You can either take steps to free yourself from the negative affects or allow them to take control over your life.

The following suggestions may help you to overcome adversity:

1. Connect with positive people - it is time to take action.

As much as possible, eliminate negative people from your life. Seek out and start enjoying the company of those who are successful, exciting and have a positive outlook.

You will naturally become more positive yourself, simply by association. Your mindset will shift and suddenly all those issues will no longer seem so overwhelmning.

2. Keep a journal

Sitting down with a personal journal and a pen can be very therapeutic! Avoid typing, writing is a tactile task an is much more effective. Allow your thoughts to flow without filters, simply dump your thoughts onto paper.

It will leave you feeling a deep sense of peaceful calm.

Some of the main benefits to journalling are:

  • Get it out through self-expression
  • Learn about your true feelings
  • Stimulates creative thinking

Give yourself permission to write down all emotions, fears, feelings or thoughts which come to mind. You will be able to look back on this time and see how far you have come!

3. Continue to invest in yourself

Investing in your future with programs such as Wealthy Affiliate is the best thing you can do. Learning at any age is important and beneficial, as it not only stimulates the brain it generates a sense of accomplishment and achievement.

When we are frustrated, angry or feeling depressed it is easy to make excuses and not take charge. I tried but could not do it! It was too hard for me! I did not have time! None of these are valid excuses ... it may take you longer and you may need to work harder, but we all have the same amount of time in each day.

Self-sabotage and negative thoughts allows will defeat you. Instead, establish a strong "Why" and ensure that everything you do is focussed on success.

4. Enjoy time with nature

A short time in nature, even 20 minutes a day, simply walking and listening, watching, and enjoying the world around us, is one of the most therapeutic activities you can do. Take some time to be outside and nurture your soul.

Practice deep breathing and mindfulness exercises to focus on the here and now!

5. Practice Meditation or Hypnosis

Many studies have shown significant improvements through guided meditation and hypnotherapy sessions. Sometimes it is necessary to deal with underlying causes of procrastination or limiting beliefs ... if you find you are unable to resolve your situation on your own, seek help from a Certified professional.

Hi Allen,
Journaling is a great coping skill that is used often in the area of pain management, and I have often advised pain sufferers to create journals that can help them identify situations or time of day that may result in flare-ups.

I also work as a counselor with The Office of Mental Health. I have encouraged, to good effect, some of my clients to start journaling. The result is that they gained more awareness of situations that may act as triggers.

Thus, they become much better at managing their symptoms. So, I'm a big believer that journaling can indeed be a good coping skill when facing adversity.

I totally agree!!!

I could definitely work on journaling and taking more time to enjoy nature!

I do have a couple very positive friends in my life! Thank goodness!! And finding WA has been amazing!!

We do live busy lives but it is still very important to take a step back, breath and learn how to be healthy❤ I like to meditate first thing every morning before the day even begins! Even of it's only 5 minutes! That's better than nothing!!!

Great advice from the ages ... focusing on qi, the life energy force, through mindfulness is powerful.

Many of the ancient modalities are based on recognizing the internal power, which most have forgotten, in our modern "technological based society".
