Offering Value

This quote, by Jim Rohn a leader in direct sales, has stuck with me since the early 1970s when I first met him at a marketing meeting, in Vancouver, BC.

"You don't get paid for the hour. You get paid for the value you bring to the hour"

He was, of course, talking about how you bring value to the proposition you are marketing (long before the Internet!) We were talking about our value, as trained and experienced direct sales staff, at the time.

"How much is an Hour of Service worth?"

Is it $15, $25, $100, $150 per hour, or more?

Jim's secondary message was:

'Do not undervalue your services, and the specialized knowledge that you are bringing to the table'.

You have invested time and resources in learning a skill or topic, and you know more than 99% of the audience you will be talking to! You are an expert .... in the eyes of your audience, don't let them down, by undervaluing yourself or displaying a lack of confidence!

How do we apply this lesson to Online Marketing?

  • Your blog is your stage!
  • Your market is the world!

You are publishing content, and providing specialized knowledge, in your chosen niche, and will be seen as an expert on that topic! Adding value will attract the reader back to your website to learn and to engage with you.

Embed value into your articles .... provide factual information, about your niche, they are not aware of.

Ask yourself .... what can I provide that others are not?

Perhaps, offer personal assistance, if they buy a product from you!

For example, if you are marketing CBD Oils ....

Learn as much as you can about the healing powers of CBD Oil, and then offer to provide your customers a free consultation, as part of a service package they receive for being your customer and purchasing product through you.

Even though you are offering the service for free, the customer will consider the value that it represents! Once this customer is engaged, and you have established a relationship with that person, other marketing opportunities or product sales may result! Word of mouth promotions will start to take place .... and your personal community will start to build!

Once you have engaged customers .... They attract others to your team/community and you gain credibility and are sought out as an expert in the field!

There are many, many ways to structure this approach ....

The key is Offer Value in everything you do ....

You are really selling yourself!

You see ... They can click on a link to buy that product or service from a hundred different websites ....

Why should they come to your site and click your link?

Once you have defined that .... you are on your way to success!

Many years ago I attended a workshop on starting your own business. I recall one of the speakers, an astute and friendly fellow, talk about the local lumbar company that was still thriving after more than 40 years in the community.

The secret was the value that this company brought to the community. The big guys were only interested in you if you were making big purchases. this local guy gave you the same high standard of service whether you were buying a truck load of plywood or just needed a plank. Yes, offering value goes a long way. For one local company, more than 40 years.

You are so right. I am going to very busy until Christmas with my second dr. degree. Which is why I bought the premium. I m going for retirement is a year or two. Procrastination is not a problem for me. The problem is that the more I have going on, the more productivity I accomplish. Jeffrey

Congratulations on taking charge like that ... a second degree and retirement in one year ...
