How is it that when we create something we think "What a great idea", then the next day we are wondering, "What the heck was I thinking?

Whether it's a decision to purchase something, a comment made in a conversation, or even something as critical as choosing a life-partner, why is it we can sometimes get it so horrendously wrong?

To make reliable and good decisions, it's important to be able to go into an objective mode. Once this happens, your instincts will also become more reliable, because your assessment is more clear, once we eliminate hope or fear from the equation.

You see more clearly, unfiltered by emotion!

The goal then is to "Be More Objective" in our thinking!

Switching the brain into the right state, so you can assess the circumstances properly, so it can guide you to making good choices.

Step back and see the bigger picture

Eliminate emotion from consideration

Always take an objective look, as if you were someone else!

Once you do this, you are much more likely to make the correct decisions!

Shouldn’t make decisions when you are emotional

Hi, Josephine, I suspect everyone has experienced the results of that ... LOL But in business, especially it is essential to be objective!
Allan

Thanks for sharing ...emotions are something
Tim

Hi Tim, yes emotions are the most powerful influence on us!

It is not easy to do what I am suggesting, it takes commitment and determination ... that is why just waiting until the next day is a really good method ... things look so much different after 24 hours! :)

Allan

That 's right. It is always a choice.
choice to be proactive or reactive.
Choose the former one.. grind!

Using the objective view, in a proactive approach, is a very powerful business process!
Hard work wins the day ...

Thanks Allan. Great post.
Joe.

Thanks Joe ...

Thanks for sharing, Allan.
For me having peace about the decision I need to make is important.
Also for any purchase, I need to make I like to give it 24-48 hours just to think about it and work out if I really need it.
These have saved me time and money over the years.
All the best
Darren :)

Yes, that is good practice ... cheap insurance policy! :)

My friend, being objective is a good advise, but sometimes things may go wrong no matter what and it will then becomes a learning experience. The history of civilization is full of failures that lead to advancement. There are many variables in decision making and sometimes you use the wrong criteria to get to a solution. Consultation and research are essential to arrive to a successful outcome. In my profession we always say “ my best house is the next one”.

Yes, for sure sometimes things go wrong no matter what. Removing emotions from the decision will give you a much better success ratio!
We are always learning and learning ...
We are the sum total of all our experiences in our life to date!

I could have avoided a long bad marriage, a lot of scams, buying certain useless products, filing bankruptcy, etc. I did think objectively about joining WA. I still wonder sometimes if it was the right choice, but since I already paid for it, I'm not giving up.

Yes, Cathy .. we learn from all of our mistakes, as painful as that can be.

If you looked at WA objectively you made the right choice ... now it is a matter of making a bunch of smaller decisions about niche, design, content, etc. approach each with objectivity and you will be more successful!

Remember, it does not matter what you like, it is what your potential customer likes that is important ...

Best wishes for success and overcoming the hurt of the past ... you can not change what happened, but you can change how you react to those experiences and how you let them impact your life now.

I agree, you can’t afford to let emotion dictate business decisions. Better to step back and evaluate, to see every angle before making decisions.

As we all know it is a lot easier to say than it is to do ... we are, after all, emotional beings ... the "step back" is essential in business decision making!
Allan

This is what I needed to see, Thanks for sharing your blog.
A good reminder to be sure about my choices

You are very welcome, Mark ... hope it reminded you to take that extra look at your decisions before acting!

Good thoughts Allan - it's very tricky working past or around our emotions at times. Some of us have absolutely no filter and so the emotions just spill out instantly without much consideration for consequences. It can hurt others as well as yourself in the long-run. A measure of forethought is a good thing!

John 😁👍

Yes, we have been taught to use our emotional lens, when making decisions from childhood ... be nice to Johnny, don't argue, be respectful of adults, etc.
While a good thing, in terms of maintaining relationships and getting along with each other, it can hold us back from success in business!
It is objectivity that will guide you to success ... the phrase "Business is Business" reflects this lesson!
