Out With The Old - New Home :)

As some of you know I have been very busy this past week (or few weeks by now) - I don't even see the timeline properly anymore, I am that tired.

I am currently moving into a new home (almost done!!!) and it's been hard, mentally and psychically. I got rid of at least half of my old belongings; clothes, furniture, dishes, CDs, DVDs and a million other things. And my new place looks like this:

... I think I will get rid of many other things in the next few weeks as I get to open all of these boxes.

Most of us get attached to things and can never throw it away; "What if I will need it one day?"... so I tried to adopt a new mentality: If I haven't used it in the past 6 months - I do not need it and even: Yes, I have used it in the past but it is useless now.

This made me think about online marketing. I often think of doing something than I say: "well, I have done it before and it didn't work". "I tried to sell it before and it didn't sell". This is the wrong approach. The past should not control out future, some strategies might have failed in the past but they could work now. We should get rid of our old junk from time to time and start from scratch.

As I am throwing away my old belongings I am also throwing away the old failures and old self-imposed restrictions. New place, new plans, new approach, new mentality, new marketing :)

On the upside, I really like my new office space and the city view:

Well, I am off to unpacking ;)

I have never been a keeper of things( my husband keeps enough). If I haven't used it in six months I probably couldn't find it if I needed it anyway.

Same for me... but in the end I was able to find all of these unused things - simply because I had no choice :D

Your unpacking with new ideas is Great!

Thanks! ;)

There have been times that I've been called a pack rat. But, and this is big, I don't hold a candle to my wife. *sigh* and if I throw any of her stuff away my life would become ... difficult. Well done and good luck in your new place!

I guess you better hold on to her belongings ;)

Killer view Alex I didn't realize you last name was Rockefeller ;) I tend not keep a lot of old(unless super sentimental) duplicates of things or a lot of ''stuff '' in general because I hate clutter.I see what you saying though...its always great to have fresh start with a different outlook on your life, looking at think from a new angle.

Amy

Hi, Amy! Not Rockefeller yet , hehe! In general I don't like clutter either and try to not hold onto every little thing I own but items still accumulate over time - want it or not :)

One of the best things I've ever read is to take pictures of things you are having a hard time getting rid of. Often times a picture is all you need in order to keep the memory, yet stil be able to fet rid of the thing.

Woah, that's a cool idea! I will try that while unpacking :D

I have started doing this myself lately. I actually saw this advice being given on a TV show about clutter and hoarding issues. It actually makes it easier to let go.

Good advice, we tend to hoard so much that half the time you don't know what you own any more. Lovely view!

That is so true! I was surprised to find a few items in my old apartment :)

Very nice view! Congrats on the new place and hopefully you'll be all settled in soon! Great idea to get rid of stuff when it's not used for more than 6 months, I should really do that around here. :)

Thanks! As I mentioned I am pretty sure I would be getting rid of many other things as I unpack :D

Oh Alex -how lovely to have such a view - lots of light - lots of inspiration. Hope when you've finished unpacking, it really is a new beginning.

Beverley

Thanks, Beverley. I really like my view at night - that's also when I am the most productive because no one calls, comes over, etc. And I prefer to stare out of the window when I am looking for inspiration instead of staring at a wall :p

I 'm ok sometimes with the 6 months "use it or lose it" rule, but I have another one if I'm still umming and aahing. Put it aside for another 6 months and if it's still not used - then it's history to me and a bonus for the charity shops. I'm a bit sentimental at times!

That's a great idea and this is why I did bring a few things I haven't used in a loooong time. If I still don't use them in the next 2-3 months; OUT :)

Great view! Congrats on the new place. I also do the have i used it in 6 months when I do spring cleaning :)

That's very useful... and I guess you do an autumn cleaning as well in that case? :p

I do indeed, lol
