You are the Same Age as Me?

Your ears kind of perk up when you come across someone the same age as you, it happens across every age demographic, nothing like having your " age'dar " on, the classic is young moms that come across each other with kids in tow and you get that 50,000 question and answer interchange in the course of 60 seconds, while piling the kids and groceries into the car.

You just know the experiences that each is going through and you get to tap into the universal knowledge " boom ". Sometimes you don't even have to talk, the look on someone's face says it all.

The same thing happens when you meet someone the same age, I am talking 95%of the time, each age has a different stage and you just know what it is about.

If you haven't lived through it, you are in the middle or coming out the other side. In terms of marketing our best customer base can be folks in the same age demographic, we just sync with and get each other.

Sometimes we can be trying to reach the wrong audiences, initially, it is about getting any engagement.

Any engagement will do,

Is there anybody out there, yeah like 4.5 billion humans, online, too much and too easy.

We are all, age stage experts, so why not tackle marketing the same way?

It is never too late for an old goat to learn new tricks.

Age Shocks

Much akin to coming to the online world and popping up that exceptional piece of content and waiting for someone to turn up to the show and nothing, like the song goes " perhaps they will all be here tomorrow.

Not happening, a little bit of a shock and bridge to cross.

I am sure we all come across age shocks it can happen at any stage, too young you won't understand, middle age and you are not relevant anymore, toooooooooooooooooooo old well you are past it, not relevant, don't understand and incapable of learning new technologies.

Wow, hold on there fella.

Shock and horror.

No matter what age we are, it kind of feels like we have always been that age, I guess because there is only today and now, there is no other reality, on the living ground that is the way it is.

I realize that I don't get the younger millennials or what their concerns are, their buying habits, their lifestyles. But what I do have is an understanding about what they are going to live through, so anyone that has been there done that has incredible value to bring to any conversation.

Experiences can be purchased, experience has to be earned.

When experience chimes in, we can all do ourselves a big favor by stopping and listening up.

Age Discrimination

I have never come across age discrimination, personally, until recently, that is. A bit of a back story, I have some folks that I have done bricks and mortar for, who were getting a site done by an agency, and there was a little bit of non connection going on, I kind of whipped up a little demo site on the fly as you do, told the people to show the folks at the agency and their friends to see what they think, I had listened to what they were saying, it was what they wanted

.Just helping, helping for free, just as a favor and I know it is easy when you are on the outside looking in, sometimes folks do not gel especially when it is a creative project, I think you call it being on the same page.

I was contacted by one of the none too happy chappies from the agency, ....... trying to confuse their clients, steal business, didn't know what I was talking about, don't know about online marketing and you are not relevant to what's happening in the industry today.

Water off a "ducks back "

I have never thought in real terms of becoming old and not being relevant because of age, or not being able to do online marketing because of age or being thought of as not having the competency to be able to create something of value. If anything coming to online marketing is like a wonderful opportunity for reinvention on many levels and on a grand scale.

Classic, I am getting on in years, one of my biggest prayers is that I become a grown up by this time next year, there is quite a bit of work to do on that one folks not sure that I will make the grade too many adventures to be had.

A time of reflection

I have stopped a while and pondered as you do, age doesn't actually define us, every age has a different stage that is life, what does define us, is the energy that we create and how we chose to share and spend that energy.

Some folks go so far and stall and progress no further, they are comfortable nothing right or wrong about that one, some folks keep on growing, creating energy and sharing it.

Thinking of the two camps, I know which one is more preferable

The thing about the online world is that there are no definitions and no confinements.

It is only our imaginations or lack of that creates barriers and sets the bar, and by utilizing the knowledge base, step by step training, the resources, support, and technical support here inside of Wealthy Affiliate we can set that bar pretty high.

As for this too old malarkey, leave that one for the less talented and less imaginative, there is work to be done and energy to be created and shared.

No matter what your age coming to the online world is not a waste of your time, it is where time starts recreating its self, get intro it and continue to generate that oxygen giving energy, or at the very least get those golf clubs out of the garage.

Would love to know your thoughts.

Alex Evans.

Such a beautiful story. Loved it.

Hi Sham, good to see you, glad that you enjoyed reading this post, just some reflections.

Alex.

Yes, why not. Thanks.

Too right in for a penny in for a pound.

I've just reached 65 but my grandkids tell me I'm a big kid. Personally I can't wait till next year, I'll be able to retire then and spend more time on WA. Jim

That is awesome Jim the Grandees have such a joy of life, looks like you are a big kid then, don't worry plenty of time to grow up.

You will be looking forward to the time when you can explore the opportunities that more unencumbered time will bring to your online journey.

Party at your place next year then, to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in your life, Jim.

Alex

Nice work with this post. Age is just a number. Don’t let it hold you back, you are never to old to reach your dreams.

Hi Matthew, Good to see you, and thank you for your kind words, Like many, say, age is just a number, and we are never too young or too old to strive to reach our dreams.

I recently did "meals on wheels", it is an outreach program where meals are delivered to older folks, who are still in the community but may be struggling to provide for themselves, it is interesting talking, sharing and helping.

One of the things that really grabbed me is that it is incredibly important to cling to life's spark and look for any opportunity to make it shine brightly.

As soon as we drop the light, it can be hard to rekindle the flame, better to be and keep active and live every day like the gift that it is.

Thank you for stopping by and sharing.

Alex.

Oh, I can relate to your post, Alex. Every day on this planet is a day for living life to the best of our ability. We are on a one-way journey and, no matter what age we are, no-one has the right to put down anyone of any age. Regrettably, in general, this fact about the age of others does not occur to younger generations. It's not until the aches and pains start that they realize, they too are ageing. Are they prepared to give up once that realization hits them? In most cases - no. These people think they are still young, and they have the right to think that way. And, so it goes on generation after generation.

I remember a time, about 10 to 15 years ago when young ones in their teenage years would look at me unbelievingly when they learned what I could produce on a computer.

Whatever my age, I will never be old. I am young at heart and have the benefit of experience behind me.

I do believe the age of global communication has a huge influence on how easy it can be to remain young in heart and mind. And, I do understand this is not for everyone by a long shot. But, for those privileged to be involved in the world of online technology, as long as we are respectful of others, I cannot see a reason to either slow down or bow out from the activity we greatly enjoy.

Thank you, Alex, for the opportunity to express my thoughts and feelings on this subject.

Valerie

Hi Valerie,

Every one hundred years new.

The only issue with the world and the generations is that we are all in different phases and stages of the hundred years.

The wise say history repeats its self and it does cycles just keep going around and around and we just all end up getting so darn caught in the middle.

We just need to excuse ourselves and just get on with it.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights, Valerie.

I think that many will be able to relate.

Most get caught in the "happy-clappyness " of the online world, I think that the folks here in WA have transitioned away from that genre and are busily creating new waves and ways of expressing themselves.

The crazy is that we can create and it is amazing how people of any age tend to pigeon hole folks, that look of stunned amazement.

Oh, you do affiliate marketing and design and build websites, Okay.

I like that one, " young at heart and have experience on your side", a formidable team, I think the very act of coming to the online world has this reinventive nature about it.

Nothing can stop us, the only limiting factor is us, we are the captains of our own destiny no more matter what age.

Have an awesome week.

Alex

I enjoyed reading your response.

Thanks very much, Alex.

You have an awesome week, too.

Will do, Valerie and one thing for sure we are sharing this journey with some exceptional folks.

I am 78 years of age in 10 days and I will still have 22 years of learning ahead of me.
Learning in my opinion only finishes the day you are 6 foot under.
Many people retire and then sit in a chair watching TV while waiting to die.
Not this old Duck. Learning is keeping me alive and going for it.
Tom.

Hi tom thank you for chiming in, yiou are an amazing testament to what is possible, we are I guess the masters of our own destinies.

Happy birthday just getting in early.

We can take so much from folks like you, sharing your driving force, I think that is amazing, I know so many folks that are half your age, who have become very good friends with the 55-inch flat screen and reclining armchair.

Create the life we want, use the internet to drive the outcomes we desire.

Alex

Learning is not easy at my age on the internet and I am using it to keep my brain active.
No dementia for me. I hope.
Tom.

If it is any consolation, Tom, learning this internet stuff is not easy for anyone even when we get the basics sorted, reaching for the next level can just about stretch our brains to a brakeaking point.

Learning no matter what age is one of the best ways to extend ourselves.

Those cognitive, disease and issues are just about at the top of everyone's freak out list and it just seems to be so random, being in the online world definitely keeps our brains expanding and growing.

Alex.

A positive life is a life of value.
Tom.

100% Tom.

At 72 years young I am having the time of my life

1. I am establishing an online business which I take very seriously.

2. I am a keen health and fitness fanatic

3. My wife and I travel a lot. In 2017 we took a three week cruise from Cape Town to Venice and had the time of our lives. I learned the Tango something I always wanted to do

4. I love socializing and met the most extraordinary people on our travels.

5. I am up for any challenge

6. I love my grandchildren to bits and spoil them as much as I can

7. I feel like 21 and bounce around with a big grin on my face. But above all I am grateful for the likeminded people I surround myself with and can share my hopes and future goals.

8. I love my life and will continue to spread a kind word sprinkled with lots of laughter

Don’t let fear hold You back ..Dive right in and do it now

Don’t live an ordinary life .. Lead an extraordinary one

Hi Richard, thank you for sharing your motivation and sound inspiration, that is totally amazing.

Really like your empowering closeout, I think like me many folks will savior your comment, reflect and if we are not in the game we will be joining the cruise at the next port of call.

Online marketing is the opportunity to create some exciting new outcomes and the opportunity to explore many horizons.

Age is no barrier, from reading your comment it seems that our mindsets may be the only limiting factor in our journeys.

best wishes to you and your wife as you continue to explore and develop a wonderful life.

The really cool thing is that the internet doesn't really care either, just waiting for us all to create our own futures.

Alex

With age comes great wisdom, willingness to learn new things and adapt, fit in...LOL!
Thanks Alex

Sound advice Jane, doesn't hurt to push the boundaries, I think that is in the rule book under the heading of " go hard out or go home".

Either which way life is meant to be lived, and the folks here in WA are certainly giving it a good nudge.

I guess we all get to create our own futures.

Have a great week Jane and achieve heaps

Alex

Thanks Alex
Massive success to you too!

Hehe gosh I feel older and wiser after reading your blog Alex :) thanks pal

Hi IIaisaane, you are most welcome, older and wiser it certainly has a nice ring to it, nothing holding us back, all systems are, go,
have an awesome week.

Alex

And happy Easter to you (in New Zealand anyway)

Thank you for sharing Evans. You are still too young to do whatever you like my friend.

Hi, Emmanuel, you are most welcome, I know I had better grow up quick, so much to do and so little time.

Running on the theory that the best thing to do is to keep creating that energy and if things start to fly to bits the easiest measure is to ask for forgiveness.

Thank you for stopping by have an excellent and productive week.

Alex

Age is just numbers.....

So they keep telling me, Edgar, we spend so much time trying to get to a number and then we spend so much time trying to slow the numbers down.

I like your take on things just embrace the numbers, keep on creating and keep on sharing.

Thank you for stopping by, have an awesome week out in Dubai.

Alex

As long as we love what we do and give values and help to everybody who needs it. Time wasted cannot be called wasted anymore. Nobody can slowdown the time we will have accelerated numbers every year. Did we use the time where we really want to go? If not..we wasted the time...not the numbers.
