The hardest words that you will ever write are the first fifty characters. In terms of your online blogging career, it may only be a couple of sentences. For many, I suspect they are the first words that have been written since your school days and it could be your first life experience of writing because you want too.

Remember that writing for profit can also be fun.

But if you come back tomorrow and write some more and write and write and write, you will get progressively better, that is just the natural way things go, it is a reflection of everything in life.

The thing about WA is that we are here to learn how to do this online stuff so no one expects brilliance straight out of the starting gate. Words build into sentences and sentences build into paragraphs and they, in turn, build into posts and posts create something special, that ability to connect with an audience and so it goes.

The thing that we need to appreciate and grasp is that our words speak for us in our absence and that is a selling proposition, it may take time but it does happen, the only way that it will not happen, is if we give up.

Create that writing mindset, and your words will speak for you 24/7/365, I don't know of many other businesses that will allow you to do this.

Create a body of content and you will have many opportunities for those words to express your message. That is a simple but yet powerful formula.

Starting out when no one knows you and you are getting no engagement, the hardest thing to do is to keep producing content, at this stage to keep writing is one of the biggest of many hurdles that we need to overcome.

If we stick to it, we will start to get engagement but more importantly we will start to feel confident in our ability to express our thoughts and insights.

That is priceless on both counts.

Just some reflections

Keep writing even if nobody turns up to the show.

Alex.

Hi Alex, thanks for sharing your experiences with us in your posts!
I have read a few and will come back for more. As a beginner, I value the help offered by yourself and other WA members to assist and advise about the way forward to a successful & monetarily rewarding online business!

Hi, Mike, you are most welcome, everyone started somewhere, the knowledge and resources, here at WA make our road to creating that online business so much easier to accomplish.
Writing is a big part of that and the old saying practice makes perfect is so true.

Hi Alex, I agree 100%. Practice makes perfect. So keep on writing even if English is not your fist language. I plan on doing just that. Thank you for your encouraging posts!

Hi IouIia, thank you for stopping by, it can be hard if English is not the first language, it can even be hard if it is in a way the leveler is just to simply write and write and write, it works a treat.
Best wishes you will do very well and thank you for your kind words.

Wonderful post, Alex. So true.. not just about writing, but about anything in life. If you can just get started... half the battle is won.
I think it was Stephen King who said in his book "On Writing", who said: "Writer's Write".

Hi Lauren that is the case and I agree with you 100%, starting and continuing we all grow. Haven't heard that saying from Stephen King it is very profound, thanks for sharing.

Absolutely right, Alex. Writers work with no thought that anyone will read their writings. Yet, we still write.

Life gets in the way, at times, and we may fall behind, but writers will eventually pull out the pen and paper, or pull out their keyboard and begin again. We're great at beginning, over and over again!

Thanks for sharing!!

Hi Mitch thank you for sharing your insights, that is so well said;
writers are good at beginning over and over that is powerful.
Life can and does get in the way we can all face challenges if we can focus on what we are doing and what we are hoping to achieve then we can make real progress.

actually when you start writing it is fun. Because i just imagine that i'm talking with the prospective buyer and i have to make a presentation and choosing my words to persuade but in a subtle way. but i understand that i still have a long journey to go! im taking baby steps and according to my own pace.

if i get a headache on straining too much on the screen then i;d just continue on an appropriate time.

Hi Francis that is such a good way to put things, our words well crafted can speak for us in the present as well. We all of us are on a journey and by continuing to take steps to improve we can all succeed. It looks like you have a very good routine in place thank you for sharing.

Yes, I agree, it is so difficult when you first start out. With every step you take, every word you write, you get better and better. Words come easier. Thoughts form fluid sentences. Before you realize it, you've become a full-fledged writer. Great post, my friend.

Hi, Sue, well said, the thing is that it is a learned skill and one that with practice we can all master. I think that transition can become very empowering especially when we step up to the plate and claim it. Those words spoken allowed can be a real game changer.
I am a writer. Thank you for sharing your thoughts much appreciated.

Hi Alex - Thanks for the reminder that the more we write, the better we become. WA is a great platform to learn "how to do this online stuff" and then practice, practice, practice until we become efficient in writing about it. Very encouraging post!

Hi Alex,
Thanks for the wonderful tips and encouragement. When I look back on some of the early stuff I wrote here at WA, I really cringe. The more I worked at it, the bore it improved. I'll never win a Pulitzer, but I can see growth, all because of WA and the wonderful Community.

Hi Alex,
This is one of the things I have learned at WA, that writing (or improved writing skills) is learnable, like you said, I really didn't think I had any writing ability. This ability or talent is still "under construction" of course, will be, until I cross that "rainbow bridge"

Hi, Bob, we can all feel like this at times much of our online careers are spent in isolation. I have to agree with you in the writing we build confidence and from here we can build that connection with our audiences.
Thank you for stopping by and for sharing your thoughts.

You know, there is a lot of criticism about the perceived isolation in online work, but I think it is by many who have never had a platform like this one. My enthusiasm about WA is not really even about making money. Heck, I have only made what the website critiques afford -- what, $3? My enthusiasm is about the people and the continued reassurance that when we stick with it we will learn what we need and want to know, and we will be all the better for it -- with actual friends along the way. I even think about people I know on WA - I even pray for some of them. I don't know that this is a major dimension of the platform, but that is just how I am in real life.
Reply
AlexEvans Premium
That is so cool Bob, and I think that it kind of sums up what WA is all about. I know for sure that many folks are way ahead of where they would be if they tried to make it under their own steam.
The platform is truly unique and part of that uniqueness is down to the individuals that are involved.

This is true. It gets easier and easier and we gain more and more as our content grows. The key is to keep going when we feel discouraged! Eventually we will have enough content, enough posts, a high enough ranking and enough followers to start reaching the world! It won't happen if we don't start though!
