Startups Can Bring Value They Are Not All Shiny Objects
Startup apps, software and services can bring value to our businesses they are not all dreaded shiny objects but rather tools and resources that can bring a helping hand to what we are trying to achieve.
The clean-cut version of a shiny object is that if you don't need it, don't buy or explore it, having said that now and then an apps' mission and purpose will align with our aspirations.
I recently got into, a beta program for a cloud-based autoresponder that is being developed, one of those right time, right place's kind of thing. So in beta phase, the developer is looking to get folks to use it prior to release so that bugs can be ironed out and that program/app can have additional features added or removed as the case may be, as to provide the end user with the best experience possible.
A pay back is that you get to evaluate the product, by using it over an extended period and follow the whole process, as an observer, through to when the product is presented to the market. End result one gets grandfathered into the program and if that experience is good, a sitter for promotion down the track as well. So it is a win-win, I would have to say.
Now out in the far reaches, my radar is on, having one eye open for any opportunities that may present. Not only for the apps but also for promotion opportunities, niche dependent of course.
The caveat has to be that they will have to bring value, otherwise, you are just going back into squirrel mode, you know collecting stuff that then gathers dust on your hard drive.
No value what's so ever.
I was using Jaaxy the other day doing some research for a post, you guessed right Beta programs/apps/startups, came across this amazing repository of apps and startups when doing search analysis. There are so many benefits of using Jaaxy, learning all the time and my expectations are exceeded all the time as well.
If we are selective we can create and craft value.
It is good to keep abreast of what is happening in the industry, even checking out who is doing what, what is trending and what could help us to expand our businesses. i am amazed at what folks are doing and I have definitely expanded my vision, i know that many folks are a little shy, but it is good to explore even so you know what is what.
Just some thoughts new ideas can not only save money but really add to the bottom line and productivity.

The thing that attracts me is that sense of being up to date with what folks are developing in the industry, it is slightly different from the hype of the MMO niche where there are startups on a daily basis many go south just as quick.

Good article Alex. Usually a shiny object is defined by some one who does not want you to leave their shiny object for another, lol. Someone goes into the Shiny Object Syndrome regarding a new program or software, That is usually My Next Move.
Any one remember that little start up in Canada, WA it think it was called, lol, love it.

Classic Sam and Deb, it can be easy to get distracted if we have a purpose we can create some good outcomes. I think that the SOS is more entrenched in the MMO niche.
Such a good point you make about WA, imagine buying shares in it at kick off. There are so many examples of startups that are continuing to expand and bring exceptional value to their users, sometimes getting in on the ground floor can have real benefits.
I'm easily distracted Alex so I have to be very disciplined when it comes to shiny objects. It's not always easy since some are just extremely fascinating even if useless in the long run. ~Mark
I think that I may be in that club as well Mark, I kind of get what you are saying, I guess like much in business it comes down to doing sufficient due diligence. Not everything will lay that golden egg with knowledge we can get a feel for things, call it enhancing that gut instinct, thank you for reading and commenting

Just discovered an amazing resource, from which I picked up an app for project management which will streamline my website creation so quite chuffed, zero cost, which is even better.
I discovered it using Jaaxy which is a double plus.
So cutting costs and building infrastructure along the way, Plus plus plus in my books.
Not for everyone for sure, we are in the IM industry it is good to know what is going on.
That project management app sounds like it has potential. Maybe we will see you do a review on it someday.
