Holiday Time Relax and Re-charge

The holiday season is such a great time to catch up with friends family and associates, just sharing some quality time can be so recharging. Because a lot of work is done online and is kind of separate from our everyday life; it can be hard to keep the folks around us in the loop. You can get in the zone where you sort of think that the people around you know what you are up to.

Just letting you know, a month immersed here in WA or the online marketing world, and you are beginning to speak a different language and taking on the nuances of a different culture. It may not seem like that, namely because we are mostly unaware. Just like our age, we have only ever been the age we are, even though the clock is tick-tocking.

Go to your local supermarket and start talking SEO; everyone will know what you are talking about. Take a deep breath; you are probably the only person in a packed supermarket that is into online marketing blogging and the such like.

It can be easy to think that folks get it; the truth is that many don't. They get emails and social media, internet banking, buying online. When it comes to online marketing, there is a kind of modern-day romance attached to it. It is one of those things that has an attraction, but yet seems too far away. It still has a mystic associated with it.

For the people around a person who is engaging online, it must appear strange; what on earth are you doing checking that phone all the time, who works all day and then half the night staring into the screen and tapping on the keyboard.

Dude, you are addicted.

Probably because we don't realize, or it can be that it doesn't occur to keep people up to date and informed. If someone is a builder, we know what they do; they build stuff; if someone works online, what do they do.

Most people are online and get it; the majority of folks are online but don't get online marketing.

I had this epiphany yesterday, currently on holiday with family and friends, my routine is to get up early do some work, and finish mid-morning and give it another hit latter in the day. People are curious as to what you are doing. I have explained, yesterday I realized I have been explaining but in a language that is not clearly understood.

Ah, I have lost you, and out of politeness, you say" oh, that's cool ".

Definitely back to the drawing board, I am firmly in that camp where word of mouth is the best form of advertising. If we can not explain or create so that people around us can understand, then it is an uphill battle.

If we get it and know what we are doing, what we are promoting, and to whom we are promoting to and can express it in a way that is easily understood, then results will come looking for us. I think in the switched-on world, they call it the 30-second elevator pitch.

If we can keep family and friends in the loop, they can become our biggest supporters; if there is a gap, then if we continue in happy, blissful unawareness, that gap will widen.

I am not saying become that relative who is continually promoting; the curse of MLM, I am sure we have all come across that person who is diligently promoting to friends; that is until they run out of friends.

I am saying don't forget to communicate with the people around you, many of them get you and even forgive, and accept your flaws, and are still your friends and loved ones. One thing for sure if they understand what you are trying to do, they can become a source of many ideas and much support.

Curious to know how you navigate your online, offline world. I guess at the end of te day, all of us are in the business of communication, a work in progress.

Alex Evans.

It is easy to be misunderstood
We do need to let people know what it is we are doing
Tim

So true Tim, it can be fairly easy, keeping the communication flowing can have some real benefits, both personal and business-wise.

Alex

True. I rather don't explain anything to anyone apart from my boyfriend who now knows almost everything I do about SEO as I speak about it a lot. If I'm excited about something, he's the first to get it all!

Awesome, Lenka, thank you for sharing if he listens he is definitely a keeper. Getting the dialogue going can be really productive for our long term goals.

Alex

I don't know if he is that much interested as I am but he listens. In return, he tells me about his business and although I get only half of it because I don't understand cars much, I listen too. It's nice to talk about things we are passionate about.

So true that shared passion can be a strong driver.

I have a husband and five children and at this stage, I am not earning even nearly enough to call this more than a hobby.
This being the case, I am very careful not to take time away from my family to do my website.
Now, for example, my husband is watering the lawn and my kids are still asleep.
I talk about my website and what I'm doing because my husband gives great ideas and I want my kids to get into this area too so of they see it as something normal, they probably will.
Great Post, thanks

Hi Marketa, thank you for responding, it can be a case of managing the people around us in the short term it certainly makes for an easier flow.

Balancing our online world with our offline world and relationships can be a worthwhile time investment.

Alex

I think/hope so, Alex
I am investing a lot of time into my website at the expense of other things. I really do hope it pays off in the long run :)

It will pay off in the long run, along the way it may morph, but if you stick at it you will create that successful online presence.

One of the hardest things to do can be, creating that balance; alarm bells start ringing when I hear the words, at the expense of other things.

The online journey is long haul, in the initial phases it can be good to take a measured approach and work things in around our normal routines.

There will he plenty of time to hit full throttle down the track, when the knowledge and skill set merge.

I see so many people arrive and go full noise straight out of the gates only to run out of steam before the real race begins.

Best for 2020 you will do well.

Thanks, Alex
Really good advice. I guess there's only so many hours in a day and when you add something new in, you must take time from something else.
In any case, I will certainly keep your words in mind

Take care, Marketa.

Yes I realize that.

Compliments of the season to you, Claudio, best wishes for the new year.

I think it is a bridge that is well worth crossing, does that realization work for you.
