Have You Got Should Be Doing This Syndrome?

Consistency is the key!

The end of last year was interesting people were asking what should I be doing to pump up my business. We have to be honest; it was one crazy out of the bag year; some suffered loss and some made unexpected gains.

Especially online.

One thing that never changes is consistency, and nothing demonstrated this to me more as the girl who stated that she couldn't do Canva. The simple advice was to come back and do Canva tomorrow, come back and do Canva the day after that, the week after that, and the month after that. When you think about it, this applies to anything that we take on. None of us start as an expert in anything. Life being a point in case most of us muddle through and much of what we get up to is because of on the job training, learning from our mistakes, and if we are fortunate enough not repeating the same thing twice.

Apply Yourself

Applying yourself, what evolves is a skill set; the cool thing is that it becomes a tradeable money-making skillset. It is a timeless and straightforward formula created by sticking with it until you get good at it. I could guarantee if you went into a stadium and screamed out anyone designing and making money using Canva, you won't get many if any " me too's."

One of the things that never ceases to amaze me is the concept that folks buy into that the internet is a saturated market place. Some niches are way too competitive, and that no one makes money because of that. That may be true if you let your parrot gene come to the fore and present the same content as everyone else; how does it go expecting to get different results.

You get to that point where things are not exactly working out like the sales pitch promoted, after throwing everything, including the kitchen sink, at it. That space can become the make or break point, that point where you start to look around and start trying this and that to boost the flow.

If you fall into the trap of doing this and that, you end up in a place where you are a yo-yo, bouncing up and down stuck in one place, going up and down stuck in the same place, not getting anywhere. Stuck in a loop a year later, it will be the same loop.

It can be easy to fall into that place where you fret about what you should be doing; it can be paralyzing from observation, especially when you jump from this to that—never spending enough time to lock things in and build on what you did yesterday.

Don't get me wrong; it is good to try things, "sidetrack" is my middle name; we need to be careful we are not trying different things for the sake of it. If we look sideways and they are doing this, it follows that I should be doing this as well. That is a reasonably good indication that you have a bout of "should be doing this syndrome."

Become Strategic.

On the flip side, if you look around and see and think that something may give you a boost and sit back, look at your gig, then become strategic and focus on the outcomes you perceive and desire; that will set you up to achieve some good results. You are thinking about it, just not following.

That is north and south pole stuff; as soon as I hear the words, I should be doing this, my initial question is, why should you be doing this. The answer will invariably be, "well, well, others are getting results." What others do doesn't mean that it will be a good fit for your business. Action without purpose is no better than not taking any action at all.

When I reflect on things that don't go so well, it tracks back to not having clear and defined goals or focused outcomes; you chuck enough at the wall, and something will stick, maybe, doesn't sort of work that well.

An Easy Antidote.

The antidote is apparent in those initial phases ask that question of yourself, "why should I be doing this?"

If there is no clear and discernable answer, get the barge pole out and perhaps give it a wide berth. If you have that clear vision and know what you want to achieve, it becomes a different ball game. I am finding that if I follow this simple process, it saves a lot of time and energy. Online the fear of missing out (FOMO) is a real thing, something to be aware of and deal with accordingly.

I would be keen to hear your thoughts. Do you have that total focus, or are you trying this and that?

Hey Alex, this is the perfect time for me to create a More effective and efficient strategy system for working on my online Business, I had to pull back in 2020 to focus on Real estate investments, so now in 2021, I can put more focus on website development and complete the WA training. I definitely appreciate your post in this much needed topic!!

I love this Alex, as you know I am a big fan of the 80/20 principle so I am generally always working towards three things, nothing more nothing less. It does not always pan out but its a good guide for me.

I love your thinking, very inspiring...all the best, Phil

Hi Phil, finding the rythum that suits us is worth the effort. Getting it on our home screen priceless.

The 80/20 principal such cool model to follow.

Alex

Good advice Alex. When studying for my degree I would write out the must know facts, throw the paper away and write out the must know facts again. Throw the paper away and start again until I could write the whole thing without looking at the book.
It works, that was for exams. The rest of the time I would make it up as I went along, much the same as Jeff.
Bux

Awesome Bux, learning by wrote can be the way to go small bite size chunks works well. I like that one thank you for sharing your experience, much appreciated.

It’s easy to forget that everything you know how to do at one point you didn’t know how to do. I’m starting to have total focus. There were years I wasn’t doing this and that and instead I was buying this and that without implementing any of it. Looking back, It was not a good place to be mentally.

Hi, Thomas thank you for sharing your thoughts; for many going through that purchase, every product that lands in the inbox can almost be a right of passage.

When you view the online world's product launch sector, it can become so polluted; if there is that constant purchase cycle going on, there is only the purchase rush to tide you over.

So true, it can play with your mind and soul.

At some point, things come around, and we start to develop that focus, and when knowledge resources and the applications all collide, the good stuff starts to happen.

Sometimes it can be a huge bridge to build, one that is well worth the effort.

Alex, I find your post reflective and insightful. Thank you for sharing

You are most welcome, Simone, sharing some reflections based on my own experiences, and watching some members asking questions as to the best course of action, and then trundling out the exit door.

If they didn't jump around so much, the outcomes may have been different.
