Failure is Not a Permanent Condition (develop grit)

We hear it said " that the only way to fail is to give up " and that can be a weekly occurrence when we start anything new.

Hey, we are all human at this stage.

I was reflecting when I first started my WA journey. You roll through the front doors and stand in the reception; it is an assault on your senses.

I must admit I was awestruck when looking at the member's, they just seemed to know so much, worked seamlessly, and appeared to be mega-successful.

" Got to get me some of that action "

I was convinced that if I could learn the material and worked hard and long enough, I would get there.

Through the journey, our motivation can wax and wane. It is only natural; every day, we can be confronted with many questions. The answers are not always that apparent and searching we must go.

Moreover, who's going to earn the most money? Who is going to last the distance? Who will create that website with insane amounts of traffic? Who will develop that unique space in the online world?

On reflection, one characteristic has emerged as a significant predictor of success. Furthermore, it wasn't, talent, the ability to create content from the outset, social intelligence or presence, age, gender, the ability to take incredible selfies, your physical health, and it is not your IQ.

It was grit.

My views on grit were founded from doing Karate, so many people would come the ultimate goal was to achieve a black belt, of the 100 students that started maybe one would make it. Affiliate marketing is much the same.

Grit is the determination to go after very long-term goals.

You have to have stamina. It can be about focusing on your future while working on today. To do that we need to work day in, day out, not just for the week. Not for a month. We need to adopt a long term view; we need to work it consistently.

I have come to learn that talent doesn't make you gritty. From observation, many talented individuals do not follow through to achieve their goals and aspirations. Talent can get us so far, it takes grit to see the many projects through, and that extends to all aspects of life.

The best idea I've heard about for building grit is something called the "growth mindset." An understanding that the ability to learn is not fixed; it can change with the amount of effort we put in. You would have to agree that coming to WA and embarking on the challenge of learning affiliate marketing; we are rewiring our brains. It is incredible how our perspectives change and grow in response to the challenge.

From observation, we can see success all around us and understand that if we follow through, we too can achieve. Having that knowledge, we are much more likely to persevere, even when we fail or fall short of our expectations because we don't believe that failure is a permanent condition.

That is the growth mindset in action.

It is a great idea for building grit. However, we need more; that's the work that stands before us every day. We need to take our best ideas, thoughts, intentions, and our strongest intuitions, and we need to test and apply them. It can be hard to look inside, to measure whether we've been successful, in terms of our experiences. We have many bridges to cross, we have to be willing to fail, to be wrong and to except that this can be the case.

The most significant bridge is the desire and motivation to start over again with lessons we have learned.

Long story short, we need to be gritty about making our affiliate marketing endeavors grittier.

What are your thoughts on developing real grit and determination?

Thanks for reading.

Great Post! For me, there's no turning back. I'm still very new, but I see it's all in the long term sustained effort.

Having that vision, in the beginning, can be the thing that makes the difference down the road.

Best wishes, David.

Alex

True grit is a habit.

Lily 😊

So true, Lily, and a habit well worth becoming acquainted with.

Alex

I absolutely agree, Alex. We should have the grit in our application to affiliate programs, we don't know when they will accept our application or turn down it. Re-apply if possible.
We should have the grit to learn how to be an affiliate in a program where we have been approved, how to sell the products and earn commissions.
And many things more, it's really not an easy way, if I only know it I should not have started this venture.
But one thing I've learned, a website is just like a piece of land that it appreciates over time.
When a website is mature enough Google can easily trust it, why? They know you are serious in your endeavor, a business not for an overnight or a fly-by-night but a business for people, that benefits people, respects people. Hahaha, many more.

Hi Jimmy, good to see you, and thank you for your thoughtful response.

I think you have summed up the journey very well.

Alex

You are welcome, Alex.

Great post Alex.
I just think to myself that I refuse to waste the time and effort put in so far. If real life gets more manic or a disaster happens then I have to do less but no way am I giving up. I WILL do this. I WILL have successful sites and it WILL earn me money.

Well said, Linda, one of the best things we can do is back ourselves all the way.

Looks like you are on the right track.

There is only one way to go and that is forward.

Best wishes.

Alex

Forward and upwards.

Alex
You are defiantly one of the most motivational individuals in this whole operation! Thank you for all your encouragement!

Hi Dennis, two really good things to work towards in the online marketing world is to stay positive and have fun doing it.

Or otherwise we run the risk of just creating another job, without even realizing that we have.

How is your journey going Dennis.

Alex.

You are absolutely right...once again.
I am doing well...thanks for asking. Currently working on a new niche concept. A new website will be going up soon...VERY EXITING!

Awesome, Dennis exciting times, best wishes with that new site.

Thanks for sharing.

True Grit -- that's us. Either I have it or I'm just too stubborn to quit.

Classic Fran, I like the sound of that. So true many are in the process of creating that real grit, we have good company.

Nothing wrong with being stubborn.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Alex

So true, Alex, thanks for sharing this today.
I always say failure is only a temporary problem but sometimes we make it a permanent problem.
Failure just means it did not work this time, what do I have to do to make it work the next time.
This is one area that I have had to do work on in my life.
Your greatest victories are still ahead.
Have a great day
Darren :)

Hi, Darren so true, thank you for your thoughtful response.

We all get tempory setbacks it can be apart of life, so many people carry these temapry conditions with them affecting much of their lifes journey.

I really like that concept and have to agree with you, the best is still yet to come as we all strive to create the outcomes we search for.

Hi Alex, the martial arts teach you discipline and that is definitely required here.

Determination can open many doors to success. Thank you for the share.

You are most welcome and thnek you for stopping by.

Alex

A very interesting and inspiring post.
I agree with your statement, that talent, education and smarts can and will take you so far, and unless you are willing to put in hard work, be determined and have a vision, you will only be stabbing your own spirit with another failure.

Love your post Alex. You D Man!!!

Hi Tom, we are in agreement, it can be an easy reflection, and it does take time to incorporate that concept, into our day to day endeavors.

I really like your comment and how expressed your thoughts.

Too true;

" be determined and have a vision, you will only be stabbing your own spirit with another failure ".

great outlook Tom.

The work is worth the effort.

Alex
