Do you worry that you might be a one hit wonder?

Some of the best songs ever can come from those popup bands that no one has ever heard of. There they go, etched into your brain, running on an auto loop in your head. Forever linked to a time and place along with the fond memories created.

For the band, they will dine out forever on that one event. Other bands will have that anthem that becomes that lightning rod of a generation.

Reading here now, there is probably a song or band moment spinning in your head, and there's a spring in your step.

For people that create that flash in the pan success, the biggie is can we do it again. To use that snippet that IMHO should be banned off the face of the earth.

Rinse and repeat.

You think it would be, from observation, many times, this is not the case. I am sure folks are making a very good living from helping folks transition through their creative block.

"Writing fits that score; some days, the zone comes looking for you, and then other times, your "writing" has left the building."

"Cry, cry, cry, it is never coming back."

That free fall moment that feels like it's going to last forever. The troubling of it all, you never even got to be a one-hit wonder.

The drug of choice for writers is, of course, engagement; without it, many aspirations whither and die on the vine. Engagement in its self can be scary in and of its self. The formula works, and before you know it, you have submerged into an ocean of sameness.

The real scary thing is the realization of just how many websites are online, just how many writers are out there, and that the earth will soon spin off its axis under the weight of the number of great blog posts published on the hour. Every hour 24/7/365.

Googles Brief.

Where on earth does a little "non-one-hit-wonder" fit into the scheme of things? I like the line from a " Googlelite" with shades of pink running through his hair.

" you could try traditional methods to help Google understand your content; many creators miss this point."

Oh, so the only thing standing between me and that glittering prize is that I missed the point. Wonders be, my redemption is close at hand.

It has been one of those interesting content consumption weeks; you may be like me. I have those that I follow, and they continually deliver the goods. Then, others are knocking on the door of greatness, and those again that settled for the formulated approach.

The people that impress the most are the ones that turn up and just bring themselves. Share their thoughts, goals, and aspirations. There is something so cool about consuming content like that. The views and insights are not running parallel with all the other tribes; they stand out and create their own hits.

People and content leaders speak in terms of quality content; how do you define that in the content universe. If we seriously work at being a writer, somewhere in the back of our mind is that we will leave behind a body of work that will be remembered. At the moment, once online, always online.

The reality is that the best course of action is to turn up and bring the best writing game that you can muster. It doesn't have to be the best; all we need to be is consistent. On the read back, we get a sense of what we have created and the sense that it is well crafted.

Then that is a good day at the office!

Embrace your Words and Have Some Fun.

So it is not so much as worrying about becoming a one-hit wonder. It is more about writing with wonder, embracing the words that you craft, make a transition to becoming a way of life, from observation, that is what folks buy into. We can worry about what we are creating, which can become angst or slip into the jet stream; writing takes on a new sense of delivery in that place.

A closing thought, one of the biggest favors we can do ourselves is to remember to have fun writing; if we don't, we are only fifty words away from going from adventure to creating a daily grind that will wear you down.

Have a wonderful and creative writing week.

How many words are you aiming for this week, my blogging friends?

Alex, here I am tuning in on your post and an enjoyable one it is. Yes, I'm late, but better late than never. Or is that statement still in fashion!

Your entire post is enjoyable but what I resonate well with is the last part of Embracing words and having fun. It is so easy to stand back and let it all happen around you.

To answer your question of how many words to be aimed for this week - well, I just don't know but I will aim for writing more words than I've written since 1st September.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

Valerie

Hi, Valerie, it is good to see you, I think from observation writing can become a chore and from there our eyes continually drift towards the exit door.

From personal experience if we can get enjoyment from our writing endavors it can be a huge boost. I think that many forget to do that.

Best wishes with your writing endavors, this week, Valerie, once we focus we can create more.

You to have a productive week.

Alex

Thanks for your response, Alex.

It's too late for me to be a one-hit wonder, but I HAVE had one book that would qualify for that. It came out about half my life ago, during the time when llamas were popular. It sold I think 7,000 copies. Title was "Living with Llamas: Adventures, Photos, and a Practical Guide." But don't go looking for it; I'm going to update it in my series of memoirs.

Hi Rosana, thank you for sharing.

7000 copies isn't too shabby.

Looks like with the update there are more sales to come, that is so cool.

It is the writing thing, we continue to write and develop and grow into our writing selves.

Best wishes with that update Rosana keep us posted.

Alex

Oh I will! And 7000 was a lot, for non-fiction. Never came anywhere near it again.

That would of been a confidence booster, still.

Hi Alex. There is so much to take from this post. I find that my way of writing changes from day to day (in a good way) as I aim to please my readers.

Sometimes, upon updating my past posts, I read and wonder if it was even me who wrote them. Wondering if even one of them will become my biggest hit.

Anyway, I have no choice but to keep on writing quality contents until and beyond that faithful day when all the pieces will fit.

Thank you for your great post Alex.
Carol

Hi Carol, I am hearing you, revisiting older content can be a journey in it's self.

Constantly having those, " what was I thinking moments," of late.

I think that it's because we are constantly growing and also refining our knowledge and writing styles.

There comes a point in time, when we become our writing and our writing is us. It becomes a way of life.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences.

Alex

Alex, you have a way with words. You weave your thoughts into the tapeastry of our consciousness...thanks friend...

Hi Uche, thank you for your kind words. You are most welcome, glad that you enjoyed this post.
Alex

I will maximize my target to 8,000 and let's see how much i can do. Have a nice day.

Hi Francisco, great target, it can be amazing what we can achieve when we write it down.

Best wishes.

Keep us posted.
