One Incredible Year at Wealthy Affiliate - Love at First Site
Hello dear WA Friends!
Yesterday was one year exactly since I joined Wealthy Affiliate.
It was a love at first sight (lol no pun intended!).
It took me about a day to decide that this is the real deal.
And, here I am, a year later, to tell you I was right!
Why Did I Start Affiliate Marketing in the First Place?
As some of you may know, I am an opera singer and a singing teacher by profession.
I studied at one of the most prestigious music academies in the world - Guildhall School of Music and Drama and had an international career until (to cut a very long story short) I got married and my, then husband, decided that was a bad idea.
One violent husband, one set of twins and no job later - I had to run for my life (literally!) and start over (yet) again.
My babies were only 18months old when this happened and I had to find a way to work from home, and fast.
Dropshipping
I started out with doing dropshipping via Shopify.
Learned what I could about dropshipping and made my store on my android phone (no comp at this point).
However, in the end I decided that this business model isn't really for me and went on to look for something different.
In the meantime, I was giving English and singing lessons to support my children.
Affiliate Marketing
Whenever I read an article on dropshipping, there was another talking about affiliate marketing.
Since I didn't know what that was, I paid no attention to what was written.
Until one day, when I actually went on Wiki to see what is Affiliate Marketing.
Wow! It sounded really great!
From that day on, I started researching and soon came across an article about Wealthy Affiliate.
I remembered it well, but didn't join immediately.
Went back a few more times to that article, and finally I decided to check it out for myself.
Double WOW! I loved it!
It took no time to decide this is where I'd like to be and this is what I'd like to do.
Premium Membership
Premium Membership was a no-brainer.
However, what is was - a HUGE expense for me at the time. It meant giving up on some basics to cover the cost of membership.
I didn't mind doing that, because it was easy to see the education I would get from the courses here is worth so, sooo much more.
And, more to the point, there isn't another place where you can learn in this way, at this price and where everything is included with no upsells.
Just incredible!
My First Website
My first website I build during the Certification Course was in the parenting niche.
I loved building that site and learning every day something new.
Must say, at times I did feel my head was about to explode with the new info overload.
On the other hand I knew this was a good sign so I pressed on.
Days were spent looking after my babies, so I learned and worked during the night.
Slept very little, but it was all worth it, because I could see progress every single day.
However, five months on, it did transpire, as much as I loved being a parent, I did not enjoy writing about it.
So, I felt a bit lost at this point and my months six and seven here at WA had found me not doing much work on that site but preparing for my second site.
Second website
So, in September '18., I published my MMO site and started the Bootcamp training.
Ah, what a difference a different niche makes...(yes, I did burst into the song just now...lol)
I love writing content for this site and feel very happy about building my online business.
- The articles are ranking nicely.
- The number of daily visitors to the site is not great (yet)...around 25 per day on average.
- I've had 20 Starter Referrals (organic) and three premium upgrades. Very happy about that!
- Only 297 to go to Vegas, and I mean to make it!
Wealthy Affiliate Community, Kyle, Carson - Thank You!
WA gave me a new profession that enabled me to stay at home with my babies and now we can have a great life from the online business I am building here.
With this business in place, I can slowly go back to my first love - singing!
Recitals in my home town, Oslo and London are being planned as I write this! Yeeeeey!
I've also introduced some of my friends to affiliate marketing and they are going to give it a try.
I am super-pleased about this, because I know it will transform their lives.
And that is a great thing!
- I'm currently in the Top100 at WA, and have 1.8k followers in my network.
- About to finish the Bootcamp training.
- Going to start Super Affiliate Challenge this month (wish me luck :) )

Hi Alenka, a very encouraging post. The one thing that comes to mind here at The Wealthy Affiliate, is the community. I have met some wonderful people here including yourself. WA also a great deterrent to keeping me out of trouble. I spend most of my time here learning new things and that is a bonus. Thank you, Alenka for sharing your one year experience.

I have had the opportunity to share my work on line and I find that a great blessing and there has been others that I have encountered along the way and all of them are here at WA so yes WA has been a great place to be.

Yes, if you are not happy with writing the content for the chosen niche, maybe try to find another that suits you better.
Of course, if you can afford to pay someone to write for your site, it's a different story.

I had to laugh about what you said on the parenting website. A similar thing happened with my very first website. It was about something that I loved and was passionate about. Yet, for what ever reason, I didn't really enjoy blogging about it.
You are doing great.
Hmm One positive experience? For me, I think it is the motivation and inspiration that I have been able to get from being surrounded by a bunch like minded entrepreneurial people all working on websites and trying our best to follow the training.

Only ONE positive experience about WA? That's hard because there are so many! lol
I think my favorite thing is the community. There are so many great, inspiring people here (like yourself) to learn from. Just the community is worth every cent, in my opinion.
