How To Update Old Content on your Website, so you can give the best information to your audience.

Hello everyone!

Hope you're all doing good and working hard to write new content on your website.

A new month is here, and I must say September went by so fast, that I only had the chance to write one or two blogs here at WA, so today I will tell you what kept me busy most all the time: writing new content for my website, at the same time I kept updating old content.

Why Do You Need To Update Old Content On Your Website?

The main reason it could be, because as you keep writing more content for your website, you're writing skills will improve, you will get better at finding new keywords, and you will understand better your audience needs.

If you're just starting to work on a new website, you don't need to update any post, until it is at least one year old, and you should check how good or bad is that post getting traffic to your website, a good post might not need to be checked or updated, while a poor post, will need some work to do on it.

Why Do My Posts Need To Be Updated?

This website is 6 years old, and I never paid any attention to the first posts, last month when I first read one of the first posts on this website, I could see why those posts are not getting any traffic at all.

What To Check On Old Posts

There are a few things to check on old posts, I will share some of my mistakes, and if you have been working on your website, following WA training, you will see that it was a must to update those posts.

  • No clear Keyword - I won't change any URL, but I can rewrite the title
  • No subtitles
  • No featured images
  • Talking a lot about "me", and little about how to solve a problem on my niche.

When updating old posts, I'm also working on:

  • Categories - this will help my audience to find anything easier on my website.
  • Better interlinking

As you can see, this website will keep me busy this month too, there's a lot to do, and I'm also finding good new keywords to write new content.

This website has already 326 post, and my goal is to reach as soon as possible 400 posts.

Do you have set up any goal to reach for this month?

Thanks for reading my blog today.

Alejandra.

Alejandra, awesome post and awesome pointers. Great information for us to follow.

We need something like this as part of our training here at WA. You have brought up some excellent points though.

Alejandra maybe you could do a training on this, it would be awesome. Because for me this would be beneficial to let all the marketers know this because I don't think the newbie know that we need to keep our content up to date with new information.
