WordPress Privacy and Maintenance Release 4.9.6

Last Update: May 19, 2018

WordPress has just released the latest WordPress 4.9.6 update which is a privacy and maintenance release with new privacy features to fall in line with the GDPR that takes effect on the 25th of May (This month)

There has been a number of new privacy features rolled out with this latest update but one of the most important is where logged out users will now be given the choice of whether their name and email address gets saved in a cookie on their browser

Other features like site owners being able to designate a privacy policy page that will show on login and registration pages and personal data export and erasure feature.

I've done another post on how to set it up here https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/alan-hocking/blog/setting-yo...

A further 96 maintenance updates were also added.

You can read the full details here: https://wordpress.org/news/2018/05/wordpress-4-9-6-privacy-a...

There doesn't seem to be any bugs with this latest update as yet but as always make sure you backup your site before updating

Have a great weekend!

Alan :)

I asked a question earlier but don't recall seeing an answer.does this require global compliance?

Hi Courtney

Yes it requires global compliance.

While the GDPR is a European regulation, its requirements apply to all sites and online businesses that collect, store, and process personal data about EU residents no matter where the business is located.
