Setting Up Your Privacy Settings in the New WordPress Privacy and Maintenance Update 4.9.6

Last Update: June 01, 2018

There's a bit of confusion about what to do with the new privacy settings that were added in the 4.9.6. privacy and maintenance update yesterday so I thought I would give you a quick walk through.

It's very simple to do

If you have followed the training here you should already have a privacy policy.

If you don't have one yet you need to create one first using the new GDPR compliant privacy policy template you can find in Site Content.

Then go to settings and click on "Privacy Settings" and this screen will show up

All you need to do now is select your Privacy Policy page from your existing pages.

Click "Use This Page" and you're done.

(Your privacy policy needs to be a page not a post or it won't show up when you try to select an existing page)

You will now have a new link on your login page like this

And also a new tick box under your comments for people to allow you to save their personal details.

Please note this post is just to help you with the new privacy settings in the latest WP 4.9.6. update which were added as part of the GDPR requirements and does not make your actual private policy GDPR compliant.

You will still need to make sure you have a GDPR compliant privacy policy which you can now find in the Site Content Templates.

It's really only if you allow other people to register as a user on your site or if you run a membership site which not many of us do but it's required under the new GDPR regulations coming into effect on the 25th
