We've Hit a Snag

Interesting update...

So, it looks like my wife and I may have to temporarily line up at least a part-time gig when we get to Oregon.

We've been trying to secure housing for when we arrive, but keep getting turned down because we don't have jobs. We show them our bank account and online business, but -- I'm assuming -- it doesn't look "real" enough for them; they want to see an employer listed (or at least government retirement benefits, which we don't qualify for yet.) Appartently that kind of stuff makes them feel more secure. Some people are so closed-minded. lol

I'm sure there is a "trick" to doing this kind of thing when you are self-employed, but I am out of time to get it all together. Anyway, I guess I'll throw out a few resumes, at least for the short term. I'm not picky. We set out in about 10 days, and if we can't get it sorted out, we may be sleeping on the beach, but at least we'll be together.

BUT... no worries. We've been homeless twice before, so this is nothing we can't handle. More of an annoyance than anything. Besides, once we get "approved" I can always quietly resign and get back to business. lol

Who said life was not an adventure :-)

I do not want you guys being homeless.😢 Sound romantic, but aren't you two expecting?
Portland Oregon should have a good job market. Maybe you will find a home for lease owned by a WA member you never know, but I hope you get squared away.
Sincerely,
Nurse Becca

Hahaha... heavens no. You might be thinking of @MelWaller. We are most definitely NOT expecting. We're both 50 and she would probably kill me at this point. lol

I've been looking and yes, Portland (and the surrounding areas) have a terrific job market, so I'm not worried. And we're already working on plans B, C, D, etc. Homeless is plan Z. I'm sure we'll get it worked out long before it comes to that. But it does sound romantic in a way :-)

Thank you for your concern. We're not really worried. I just thought it was interesting that even in 2019 so many people are still hung up on the "traditional" model of income. Seemed a bit bizarre, but it is what it is, I guess. The world needs ditch diggers, too. lol

Hi Aj,

You are in good spirit despite your predicament. I hope you are able to get things sorted out so you can get housing.

All the best on your personal journey!

Kind regards,
Nichola

Thanks, Nichola. I know it may sound silly or cliche, but honestly when you have been through the things my wife and I have in our lives, this really is nothing. She even told me that she'd sleep in a tent under a Redwood tree as long as we were together, so I'm in great spirits :-)

Although now that I think about it, it might be a bit difficult to get WiFi out there to stay in touch with my WA family, so on second thought, I might just have to work things out. lol

your wife sounds like a real gem! Bless you both! You both sound so upbeat, nothing will bring you down, y'all have got this! Prayers for many good things to come to you both! :)

... that's another reason to be in Camper/Trailer Or a motor home.. you can get a satellite Internet setup, and be "Connected" from Anywhere on the planet.
There are also (if you are licensed) some interesting HAM Radio options .. 'tho less than optimum .. that you can utilize from Anywhere.

... also, if I am not mistaken, Most Campgrounds have Internet available (this is the 21st century, afterall ;-)
Joe

Your taxes should be efficient enough to show as proof of income!

Thanks. Yeah, we tried that, but since our tax returns are from another state and reflect the job that I just left, they ain't buying it. lol

Still, we're working on backup plans, so no worries here. :-)

Wow, that should be efficient enough, but think about it this way, maybe it's just not meant to be! Maybe you're getting steered into a different direction. Best of luck!

Hi, Aj.
Your Credit Score is a possible solution. Lead forward with one around the 750 mark, and you should not have a problem.
At least that is how it works up here.

Not how much you make, but the ability to pay.

Hope things work out. Keep us posted when you can.

Kindest regards,

Paul.

Thank you. We shall see :-)

No, really...up here it solves the problem.
Good luck on your journey Aj. I wish you well.

Best from here,
Paul.

Faith is all we need in this times.

Same things happens here in Australia, we have worked for ourselves for 27 years and experience the same.

We were hoping to get a very small mortgage and the bank said no because we did not have a job.

Wishing you all the best, I am sure that it will all work out.

Regards
Darren

Thank you. I know it will. My wife has already compiled plans A through Z. lol

Sometimes it rain to produce a rainbow. I hope the rainbow for you and your wife will show it's self soon. I admire your effort's and I wish you the best.
Michael

Thank you, Michael. I know it will. After everything we've been through together the last 26 years, if there is one thing my wife and I have in abundance it's faith :-)

That is beautiful my friend. Powerful words, from the bottom of my heart I wish you and your wife all the very best. You are an inspiration.
Thank you,
Michael

Where in Oregon are you headed? Do you have a tax return with your business income on it?

Shooting for around the Portland/Vancouver area, but we're not too picky. Just somewhere in the valley or even closer to the coast. And, no, no tax returns as yet; all of our income up to this point has been through our jobs.

We're not too worried. We'll get it figured out. I just found it interesting how many people hold the "JOB" mindset :-)

Gotcha. I actually live in oregon out on the coast. It can be tough out here lol. Blessings be :0)

Hoping everything works out. You sound like a guy who has overcome many hurdles before in your life
Best of luck

Thanks. Yes, I have overcome a lot, so this is just a minor bump in the road :-)

That blows and life is a adventure I even thought about making a domain name Crabtreesadventureenjoythebumps.com
Best of luck

Hahaha... thanks. Yeah, it's not going as smoothly as I had hoped, but that's what makes life fun. We overcome and adapt, acknowledge and move on :-)

Good Luck with all of that. I am sure you will find a way.

Thanks. We're looking into "short-term" rentals at the moment, although surprisingly not having much luck on Google. Hmmm... now that might just a good niche for a new site :-)
