How to Truly Achieve Your Dreams

What is your definition of success? Who do you look up to right now that defines your definition of success?

We often look to celebrities, athletes, and successful business professionals, but clearly it could be anyone who inspires you. Here’s a short exercise for you to try…

Think about where you want to be and what you would like to achieve. In other words, what is your ultimate goal?

Now, visualize in your mind a person that is at the top of their game, perhaps even the best in the world at what it is that you want to do.

Next, assess what is different between you and them. And be honest.

The point is that we all have the same potential. We all have the same 24 hours in a day. So, what separates the successful from the not-so-successful?

Here are the primary areas that, after decades of experience and reading literally hundreds of books on potential and human development, I have found will make the biggest impact in your life.

Start With Why

“Until a man selects a definite purpose in life he dissipates his energies and spreads his thoughts over so many subjects and in so many different directions that they lead not to power but to indecision and weakness.” — Napoleon Hill

Having a definite purpose is absolutely key to experiencing success.

If you don’t know your target, you will never hit it. If you don’t know your destination, you’ll never get there. It’s like trying to use GPS for directions without telling it first where you wish to go.

Giving Up

“While you're out there partying horsing around someone at the same time is working hard. Someone is getting smarter and someone is winning.” — Arnold Schwarzenegger

You have to be willing to give up. No, I don’t mean giving up on your dreams. I mean deciding what you are willing to give up to achieve them.

You may have to sacrifice television, FaceBook, YouTube, mindlessly surfing the Internet, or even spending time with friends and family.

I get it. It’s hard, but as financial adviser Dave Ramsey often says, you have to make the decision to live life like no one else now, so you can live life like no one else later.

If you’re willing to give up an hour or two a day now to achieve your dreams, imagine how much time you can spend with your friends and family later.

Visualization

“Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.” — Mark 11:24

Belief is a powerful thing. The most successful people often visualize their goal as already happening.

If you want to have a successful affiliate marketing business, you should spend at least 15-30 minutes a day visualizing in your mind what that looks like. What are you doing? What are you reading? Who are you talking to?

And then take it a step further. Not only visualize already living that life, but really feel it, down to your very essence, that you have achieved it.

Accountability

“Accountability separates the wishers in life from the action-takers that care enough about their future to account for their daily actions.” — John Di Lemme

You cannot control what happens around you. But you have absolute control over what you do and how you respond. You must live by the motto, “No excuses” and accept 100% accountability in your life.

This does not mean burying your head in the sand and ignoring what is going on in the world. It does mean you acknowledge what is going on and still maintain your vision.

Self-Talk

“I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me.” — Stuart Smalley

Positive thinking is often mistaken for delusional thinking like our friend Stuart above is doing. Your thinking should still reflect reality.

On the other hand, even the most negative experience can be reframed in a more positive way. You can either dwell on your mistakes, or you can analyze them, discover what went wrong, and focus on improving the next time. Remember, successful people literally fail their way to the top.

Taking Massive Action

“We are what we repeatedly do.” — Aristotle

Habit is the foundation of success. Brushing your teeth once a month does not promote healthy teeth and gums. Working out once a week does not build muscle. Writing one article per month will not build a successful website.

Instead, it is developing daily habits and rituals that leads to success in all areas. What to get fit? You have to work out regularly. Want a successful affiliate business? You must create a consistent stream of quality content.

It is only by taking massive action you will achieve your dreams. I leave you with this…

Ask yourself every day, “What habit can I create that will make achieving my dream inescapable?”

You always have motivating, good information. Summer is HARD to continue the stream of work on my blog. Vacation, Kids at home. I'm struggling. Thank you so much for the reminders here. 😎

Time management can be a struggle sometimes. And while there are a lot of techniques that help, often it really does come down to motivation.

At the same time, you're only human, so do your best and never give up. Slow is okay. It's never about the "race"; it's all about results.

Hang in there :-)

You write such good posts, and I always take away something of value. Keep it up. I appreciate you.
