Hi Everyone, hope you're having a great weekend! I am setting up a website to help people get better sleep, but I am struggling with names for the website, any ideas? Thanks Se

I´m with John, use the keyword tool.

Besides that, how about:

nomoresleeplessnights.com

Best of luck to you, Sean

Restorativesleep
sleepmedicine
sleepdisorder
sleepbettertoday
nomoresleeplessnights
sleepwellagain
sleephygiene

Just a few suggestions. It really depends on what you want to do on your website.

David

howtosleepezee.com
Jerome

I might have a domain name for you. How about soundasleep? I hope this helps.
Armand

http://Sweetersleep.com sounds pleasingly alliterative - just a thought!! Or sleepsweeter!!

Better sleep is broad. How far down in the niche are you drilling? That will give you a great place to start when choosing a domain name. I wrote a article on falling a sleep faster and got the most views I ever got. Success is waiting for you. LOL.

I agree that better sleep is too broad - you've given an excellent suggestion in 'fall asleep faster.'

there are sleep magazine . i'd Check the headlines fir the articles . it's some times like "slogan " , than you can tweak this slogan in your way. just an idea for finding unique names

Try putting "sleep" into the keyword tool and see what comes up.
Play around with it and you might get some ideas :-)

it depends on what you'r going to promote . ex :promoting special "mattress" from Japan , or giving specific exercise as CD or DVD or giving tipps ,,, etc .. it would be maybe helpful to mention wich field . so i can may help you to fine a name for your domain . i had the same issue with domain name and i found 18 free names to choose from .

Hi, I like the theme I am using, however whenever I choose a 'featured image' it makes it massive and I do not know how to make it smaller or even change its location. Has anyo

Hey Sean,

There is no set rule as to HAVING to use the featured image to gain any advantage SEO wise. This feature only becomes necessary IF the theme you are using needs to have featured images to have different options work correctly.

If you want to tweak (or customize) TwentySixteen to fit your needs, be sure to create a child theme for TwentySixteen and then Google search (using your theme's name) for EACH item you want to change.

http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/wordpress-child-theme-pros-cons/

It is very likely that others have requested from wordpress.org on how to do whatever it is you want to do with your theme.

If you cannot find an answer, you can create a WordPress account and post your question.
https://login.wordpress.org/register/
Numerous WordPress gurus are online watching and waiting to help WordPress users to solve technical issues with themes.

Hi Trish,

There's a lot of really useful information there, thanks!

Sean

I would get in touch with the theme creator. They usually have support. Ask them what the maximum pixel size is for a featured image for their theme. For example, 500 x 200. Then, once you know, you can paste it into Paint and resize the photo to whatever size you want, save it to you computer and then upload into your WordPress Media.

From what I understand, WordPress will automatically adjust a photo regardless of theme. So, if you didn't want to edit it in Paint you can also edit it within WordPress. Say you uploaded a photo into your media file. Now, you're in your post. Click on Media file. Click on a picture. Under the top right, under the thumbnail of your photo, you see the word edit. Click on that. That will open up a page where you can edit your photo. Hope this helps!

Hi Barb, thanks for your tips, Sean

Here is information on that type of imagery! https://www.thesocialmediahat.com/article/10-benefits-using-images-blogs

Hi Mike, thanks for the share, was very useful, thanks Sean

This is a great theme but with that stupid detail. I use it in one site but do not use featured images.

Hi Jovo,

I agree! I thought the theme looked really good, nice and clean, but I've found this featured image thing quite frustrating.

Thanks

Sean

Featured Images are important if you intend to have blogrolls, as most themes show thumbnails from the Featured Image box.

Twenty Sixteen is a very simplistic theme, you might want to give something like Customizr https://wordpress.org/themes/customizr/ a try, which has far more style customisation options for you to choose from.

You can always switch back if you don't like it !!

Hi Richard,

Great advice! I've just switched to your recommendation, Customizr, we'll see how it goes.

Thanks

I was wondering if there is any optimum length of website post to get ranked by Google in terms of word count?

I thought I'll share my personal experience and opinion on this.

You may disagree with me...

"Optimal Word Count Doesn't Exist"

Now, there should be a lot of objections here.

RULE: Minimum word count is 400 words.

Most of my articles which have 1,000 words and above ranked well on Google, but that is because my top competitors in my niche has an average of 1,000 words. That sets the benchmark.

Interestingly, I've seen articles on different niches that ranks on Google with just 600 words. How do you explain?

In my opinion, there is a benchmark for every niche, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution for optimal word count.

A small part of this following article covers the optimal word count, but I think it will be interesting for you to check out the entire article:

https://barenakedmarketing.com/top-ranking-on-google

Feel free to give your opinion.

Cheers!
Jack

I think your explanation makes more sense. because I've heard other ppl say how no posts should be under 1000 words, and how your average post should be 1500+ words... now if I'm doing a lot of recipe posts I cant do 1500+ words, there's nothing to talk about. but 600-1000 words is just about right.

also like you said many times posts can rank well with just a few hundred words. during research into writing my posts I often notice a lot of 1st page results in google have posts that are only around 600 words.

Yes I agree with Chris 750 to 1000 words :)

Ideally you would go for 1000+ words seeing as that is the safe zone for SEO. :) Hope this helps.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your answer. Yeah I agree with aiming for longer posts, just as long as the quality of the content is still good.

Thanks

Sean

You can go down as low as 500 words with rocking content!

Hi Michael,

I think you are right that the quality of the content is the most important part.

Thanks

Sean

Hey Sean,

Hope this post answers your question: https://yoast.com/blog-post-length/

Very good article!

Hi Trish,

Thanks for sending that article, very interesting :)

Sean

There isn't a right or wrong answer here but I generally keep my posts to 1000 words minimum (usually closer to 2 or 3k). Check out this article and pay extra attention to the section under "content is king" - https://www.quicksprout.com/2012/12/20/the-science-behind-long-copy-how-more-content-increases-rankings-and-conversions/

Merry Christmas!

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your response. Yeah I had read a similar Neil Patel post on this subject and wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were.

Thanks

Sean

No shorter than 300 words but as long as you want them to be.
I personally have articles with 10,000 words but the norm is between 1,000 and 2,000 words.
Merry Christmas.
Robert

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your input. I am thinking of aiming for 1-2k words, as I've heard from Neil Patel's blog that the average no.1 on Google's search rankings had an average word count of 2400 words.

That said I am a bit worried about my posts being too long for people to read though.

Thanks

Sean

Break your articles up into readable chunks with short paragraphs and perhaps a small thumbnail pic to illustrate the text.
Happy New Year.
Robert

So is it good to vary the length? Maybe 33% of posts could be 600 words, 33% 1000 words, and then 33% with 1500 - 2500 words. I have food recipes and its not likely i can make those posts more than 600 words

Perhaps you can flesh out your recipes with an introduction on the history of them.
Also a description of the ingredients - where the came from originally for example.

People like to read about the writer and what makes them an 'Expert'.
They are more likely to stay on the page if you make it interesting.

By the time you get to the actual recipe you will already have a good chunk of text.

Enjoy your Sunday.
Robert

I am getting about 800 visitors to my site per month but only one or two clicks on my affiliate links, I would like to know how I can improve that, my website is http://topcatf

Hi Paul,

Thanks for replying. The complete URL is topcatflaps.co.uk. I have no idea why the '.uk' gets cut off the link nor do I know how to fix it, but the '.uk' is part of the URL.

Hope that clears it up

Thanks

Sean

if you click the wheel/cog at the top of the post it gives you an edit option, you can go in that way and edit your link.

1. for some reason your site doesn't come up when I click on it.
2. Are you reaching the right target market of cat owners.
3. How on target is your content and how often is it innovatively refreshed.

Hi Michael, thanks for getting in touch. For some reason the link cuts off the '.uk', cutting the url short. The '.uk' has to be included for the link to work. Thanks Sean

Are you targeting your ads to cat owners?
Have you found any cat related # to use on twitter or Instagram?
Are you in any cat or pet related groups on Facebook?

Just a couple of ideas, if you know the people visiting your site are people interested in cats and they are still not clicking then maybe a pricing point or something but if they are just random visits who may not even have a cat at all then they wouldn't necessarily click the link to buy.
Cath

Hi Cath, thanks for your advice, I will try a bit harder with the hastags. Regarding Facebook groups, I am a bit unsure with how to use them without coming across spammy, so any advice there would be appreciated.

I would love more traffic to my site (who wouldn't?) but my focus at the moment is converting more visitors on my site to clicking on my affiliate links, but I will definitely take on board your points.

Thanks again, Sean

If you are getting people that are interested in your niche to visit your site then there is a greater chance that they will click your links.
Think of it this way, if you stood on a street corner and showed everyone that walked past a dog lead how many do you think would buy it from you?
If you went to a park full of people walking dogs and showed them the dog lead how many do you think would buy it from you?

Facebook groups just join and get chatting, do you actually have a cat yourself?

Yep. I'm getting the same message. Maybe it's because the link above doesn't have the uk attached. Perhaps editing the link to ensure that visitors can visit and check it out. Too much trouble to type it in ourselves. ;) I'll check back in a few minutes if you should decide on editing your link on your question. :)

I tried to click on your link this message came up

Yeah you have to add the '.uk' to the end. I am not sure why it gets cut off whenever I post it on WA or how to sort it out. Thanks Sean
