It is fascinating that in life we are often surprised to find out just how powerful ideas that fully resonate with us may be and even more astonishingly where we come across such ideas.

This post is dedicated to what I have found to be the best definition of what our enterprise, The Affiliate Marketing Roundtable Group, is and stands for.

As most entrepreneurs, we set out with a business plan, idea or strategy, most of the time we can find it challenging to fully describe it to others alike or to our intended audiences who we really are. That is due in part to the fear of sounding too broad or too narrow, too limiting or too boastful in what defines our marketing strategy, concept, niche or specialty and not wanting to be limited or to be boxed in.

I will now get to the main point of my post and as to why I have found such a deep sense of identity and meaning in the 2019 Korean movie titled "The King's Letters". Below I will provide a little synopsis of the movie without spoiling it for those who may consider watching it (it has English subtitles in Viki/Rakuten),

Set in Joseon, the feudal Korea of today, during the reign of King Lee-Do (King Sejong) in 1442, some attribute this as the backstory of how the Korean alphabet was invented and came to be. During that time, as many time throughout history, Joseon was invaded and ruled by other nations, primarily various Chinese empires and feudal Japan, and in this case it was still very much a vassal of the Chinese empire of that time which deeply affected its culture, customs, religious beliefs and political alliances, The prevailing Korean nobles and ruling factions were followers of Confucius and they were at odd and often at war with Buddhists monks or believers who were classified as traitors and whose temples were destroyed.

Having laid that historical foundation, the story unfolds with the creation of an unlikely alliance between the King Lee-Do (King Sejong) and a Buddhist master monk named Mong Shin-mi in their united quest of creating a new Korean alphabet which would enable to Korean people, most of whom were not allowed to study or to learn the tens of thousands of Chinese characters used in Joseon by the royal court, the nobles and the Confucian scholars.

The idea was running up against those in Josean who then considered Buddhists to be less than human or traitors as well as the great influence the Chinese ruling empire had on Joseon in all aspects including reading, writing and speaking.

As I have promised, I will avoid the temptation of going away the entire plot and spoil it for anyone who may want to watch the movie, but I wanted to point out below a few things which not only resonated deeply with me but which I have found as best to define what The Affiliate Marketing Roundtable Group stands for.

Among some of the most memorable scenes there was the statement made by the King that the sky has more stars than there are grains of sand on a beach, however, they are all compressed in 28 constellations (Chinese astronomy of the era comparing them with 28 mansions) and that even though the human voice can make countless sounds, they cannot outnumber the number of stars and therefore the human sounds can and should be able to be harnessed in some equal amount of letters of a unique and new Korean alphabet.

The second and perhaps the most important part of the King Sejon's pact and plan with the master Buddhist monk Shin-mi was to find ways to then teach and to implement the new Korean alphabet they dreamt of, once it would be created. That had to consider the strong opposition from Confucian scholars, court nobles, the Chinese empire under which Joseon played the role of a submissive vassal. The king and the master monk had even thought of a name for the new Korean alphabet they dreamt of which they called
Hunminjungeum.

A real sad note, the actress who played the queen in the movie, Mi-seon Jeon has passed away recently on June 30, 2019, about a month before the movie was released in the US on July 26, 2019,, which incidentally was also my birthday. My wife and I have seen numerous Korean dramas in which she was a key character and she is a great loss not only to the Korean film industry but also to her fans worldwide, some of which still mourn her passing.

OK, so then...

What is the nexus between all of that which took place in feudal time Korea many centuries ago and what The Affiliate Marketing Roundtable Group stands for today?

Well, believe it or not, in its entirety that inspiring story matches our mission as we also share the concept of both simplifying the concepts of online and affiliate marketing and then bringing them to a vast audience of online marketers and entrepreneurs the world over in a step by step fashion which puts resolving customers' issues, needs and fulfilling their dreams by, creating value through long term personal relationships.

While none of us are either legendary kings or famous Buddhist monks, we endeavor, in our own way to leave a lasting legacy though the "knowledge industry" by our actions and advice.

Whether some believe ithat the best online marketing approach is to be using a website, SEO, Jaaxy, keywords, Google ranking, social media marketing or funnels, we have a seat for everyone at OUR roundtable.

We are in the process of creating our own community, away from the draconian anti business grasp of major US social media giants on a new platform which is devoid of ads, side shows, drama and which fosters the entrepreneurial spirit, without the fear of reprisals for openly discussing marketing ideas, platforms, products, services or programs.

One last noteworthy thing, both the king and the master monk lamented that they may only author one single book during their entire life. Yet think of what a book they had envisioned. One which simmered down tens of thousands of Chinese characters to some 28 Korean alphabet characters, alike the Japanese hiragana alphabet which strives to achieve the same for the Japanese people and culture.

So in closing, I cite to a quote from a great documentary of the human spirit:

"I think first and foremost, people protect those things they love. You can't love something unless you inherently identify with it." Kris Thompkins - 180 Degrees South

We at The Affiliate Marketing Roundtable Group are committed to and are inherently identifying ourselves with online marketing. That is our desired legacy and the sole book we can aspire to write.

Blessings!
