Breaking News: From The "Tree That Falls In The Forest Which No One EVER Hears" News Agency (who broke this story here months ago):

TL:DR Version:

"More than 30 U.S. state attorneys general are readying an investigation into Alphabet Inc’s Google for potential antitrust violations, a source knowledgeable about the probe said on Tuesday"

Of course, there is nothing to see here folks, we can just carry one business as usual. What can possibly go wrong with the outcome of this newest mass AGs investigation?

Oh and one last thing, from The "Tree That Falls In The Forest Which No One EVER Hears" News Agency (who broke this story here months ago)::

"Texas leads the group of 30-plus attorneys general, which plans to announce the probe on Sept. 9, the source said.

Google said that it was cooperating with the state officials."

Enjoy the show folks!

PS: Speaking of the show, now we also have this one too

"YouTube to pay $170 million penalty for collecting kids data"

So again, nothing to see here folks, business as usual. Keep calm and carry on!

PPS: If only I had the same accuracy at predicting the weather or picking Lotto numbers, that would be such a killer niche (non Google).

Blessings!

Doesn't surprise me, Gabriel. Thanks for the reporting.

Google is going the Big Money Conglomerate route like FB, boosting big companies while hurting the small businesses with penalties (even though they claim they aren't) from their Google core Update. The "little people" are all feeling it.

Kaju,

In my neck of the woods, in a nondescript flyover territory, West of the Mighty Mississippi, the local "home improvement" stores have all but run out of tar, feathers and sump pumps...oh, and pitchforks too.

I wonder what all of that means, when the masses awaken....hmmm

"Lord, come down Lord to see what's left of your remnant"

Blessings!

The marketing landscape will change over the next 18 months, unfortunately Google has been sowing the seeds of its own demise.

There will be a number of AG's wanting to make a name for themselves.

The Google we see today won't be the Google we see down the road.

Just when we were all getting good at marketing.

Going to be interesting sitting on the side lines.

Alex,

Thanks for your comments, sadly way too many still hold that there's nothing to see here, until one day they finally awaken.

Blessings!

LOL, Gabriel, with your "there is nothing to see here folks".
Anyway, thanks for the sharing and update.
Blessings to you too.

So what does this mean for the future of Google?

I've read a bit about this, but the term "antitrust" is very broad and rather ambiguous. So what are they being accused of besides being a monopoly (which has always been obvious) and pilfering people's data (which all the big tech companies do)?

Skewing search results to favour certain websites is definitely one thing they do, along with filtering out results that go against their business interests, such as natural and alternative medicine (the main reason for last August's Medic Update). Google has bought into Big Pharma, so they don't want to display any alternatives to that business interest.

Maybe Google needs to follow their own E.A.T. guidelines that they're trying to enforce on everyone else?

Darren,

The crimes [it is not an exaggeration to call it that] by Google in particular along with the other US tech giants are not suitable to explore in this forum, however, as both Mark and I have pointed out go beyond constitutional rights violations of virtually every single American, as well as most of the world's population.

Those are not wild allegations, at at minimum, one has to see the PraegerU story, the Trojan Horses [Alexa, Hum, Nest, Hive, etc.] they push into oblivious people's homes, the illegal data collection on all, including kids.

I know that this will sound strange to many, lest they decide to actually "Google" what I am saying and see where it all leads.

There are many executive orders, many which can be read on the White House website which deal with a variety of issues, threats, etc. The Google unfazed skewing of the 2016 presidential elections's interim results was part of Dr. Robert Epstein's testimony before the US Congress on or about July 16, 2019 are hardly products of my imagination, yet so many couldn't care less, even though we say as marketers and as members of the knowledge industry that we are "the go to person". I point to a december 21, 2017 Executive Order on Human Rights Violations and RICO. But hey, I am just a schmuck in a cubicle, what can I possibly know?

Why Google Poses a Serious Threat to Democracy,
and How to End That Threat

"I am here today for three reasons: to explain why Google presents a serious threat to democracy and human autonomy, to explain how passive monitoring systems can protect us both now and in the future from companies like Google, and to tell you how Congress can immediately end Google’s worldwide monopoly on search. My plan for ending that monopoly was published just yesterday (Monday, July 15, 2019) by Bloomberg
Businessweek (Epstein, 2019d). I am attaching a copy of my article to my testimony and respectfully request that it be entered into the Congressional Record."

"Since 2012, some of my research and writings have focused on Google LLC, specifically on the company’s power to suppress content – the censorship problem, if you will – as well
as on the massive surveillance the company conducts, and also on the company’s unprecedented ability to manipulate the thoughts and behavior of more than 2.5 billion
people worldwide."

"I reach out to diverse different audiences because the threats posed by Google, and, to a lesser extent, Facebook, are so serious that I think everyone in the world needs to know
about them. I put my own political leanings aside when I report my data and concerns because the problems these companies present eclipse personal politics. To put this another
way, I love humanity, my country, and democracy more than I love any particular party or candidate. And democracy as originally conceived cannot survive Big Tech as currently empowered.
If you were to examine the data I have been collecting over the past 6-and-a-half years, every one of you would put partisanship aside and collaborate to reign in the extraordinary
power that Google and Facebook now wield with unabashed arrogance."

Dr. Epstein's Testimony

The recent $5 billion fine by FTC on Facebook, highest fine ever in history, the current $170 million paid by Google and its YouTube sidekick for illegally collecting kids' data by the FTC and the NY state AG are only the tip of the iceberg. Why?

Because it affects more than just kids in the state of New York don't you think? I venture to guess it affects kids worldwide. Can you see the other state's AGs raising the same claims? How about other countries?

I am really baffled how nonchalant some are looking at what unfolds right under our own eyes. It is not MY news, it is THE NEWS, OUR NEWS, and if we hold ourselves as authorities in this marketing space using the ostrich principle is not a good strategy.

Soon we will have websites loaded up with TL:DR blog post piles which will no longer fall under any algos' whims and some will surely have a rather rude awakening.

If it was one single US tech giant investigated and/or fined by a sole US or state AG or regulatory or judicial agency, we could shrug it off as a fluke.

When we see multipliers in that sentence above, we may not just start to notice a serious trend but some of the alpine sports fans may see an avalanche.

But hey no worries, what can 30 PLUS US state AGs and the FTC or avalanche possibly do to a "too big to fail" giant?

Some of us do recall the old "Ma Bell" AT&T which was dismantled by the US feds into "regional Bells", how cute and innocent, ain't it?

Some of us recall the collapse of Lehman Brothers, but we were told that they were too big too fail, right?

Oh and anyone recalls the tobacco litigation by most US state AGs? Any guess who won that sweet squabble?

The choice to know or not to know and to act accordingly rests upon each one of us.

My best is on the 30 PLUS US state AGs and on the avalanche of massive class action consumer lawsuits.

When these monsters are slayed and their remains regulated, we the world's people will be in a better place where we can fight the abuses and violations they currently commit unfazed.

Enjoy the show, it is unfolding right before our eyes! [they used to chant that "the revolution will be televised" but now they've forgotten that sweet refrain]

Blessings!

DISCLAIMER: My name is NOT Dr. Robert Epstein, so no one has to read my crappy blog post, but every logical person and serious marketer would be best suited to read Dr. Robert Epstein's congressional testimony linked above. Or "Google" it...

Hi Gabriel, guess what ? The link now gives a '404 Page Not Found'
Boo, you were taking me on a journey.
Might have to open up another browser and seeif it's there.

BOOM!

Here it is Dr. Prof Twack

https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/Epstein Testimony.pdf

I hope that it works this time. {seems that WA breaks off the part after .doc, but you can copy it in a browser and get it. I was unable to attach the PDF here, some WA restriction].

If not, then there is the, err... Google option [no pun intended].

Blessings!

Sorted, highlighted the whole line and went straight to it. Downloaded onto my desktop and will immerse in it tomorrow. Thank you.

Google and anti-trust. Say it isn't so! Those words sound so good in one sentence together. PragerU(love them) got them over a barrel too. They were in court yesterday and back in court next Monday. Thanks for sharing my friend.

Mark
Go MN!

Mark,

Go MN indeed...

Blessings!

They might get probed, but I be nothing will happen. It won't even be a blip in the media. That's my prediction.

- Christina

P.S. I wanted to come up with something witty after saying "they might be probed", but it's late and I'm tired. ;)

Christina,

Thanks for your comment,

I do however disagree with it and if you look at the Google probe is about "antitrust violations" which is akin to being accused of being a monopoly.

Last time I saw such a massive number of state AGs collectively on a probe it was during the Bernard Madoff case, I know because I worked on that massive investigation and multi district class action lawsuits,

Time will tell, however, I would heed the biblical advice of not putting new wine in old wineskins. The outcome will be less than positive. But some will go on for the ride as per the Stockholm Syndrome.

Blessings
